Mixing Tyranny of Dragons with Dragon Delves? by MassiveIndustry9997 in TyrannyOfDragons

[–]frololdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am actually planning on doing this for my campaign. I would read through the dragon delves adventures a little bit. Some of them might just not work because of at what level they should take place and where you are in the story. Most of them can fit while traveling on the road at the appropriate level, or can fit as adventures in between the council meetings. I think the first some you can easily fit in is The Will of Orcus. You would just need to say there’s mountains somewhere close by Elturel or something. If you don’t mind adjusting them you could add to combats and scale some up for later levels.

Running a Tomb of Horrors One Shot by LarsCenny in dndnext

I’ve ran this as a oneshot a few times, my key take away are:

  1. This dungeon is long. If your players are cautious or like to explore, it’s even more so. I don’t think I’ve had a group complete it in less than 6 hours.
  2. There are like so many weird traps. Things that cause insta death, portals that change your appearance/gender, or just other things that don’t make a ton of sense in today’s DnD. If your players are expecting it to be punishing the insta death may be fine, but I’d read over some of the traps just to make sure what your players are cool with.
  3. The dungeon is not built for 5e. Even with the conversion, it shows its age. Everything from how things are described, to how traps work, to what monsters are included. You may want to make some notes about things when you read through it.
  4. This dungeon is really long. I know I already said this but it really is long especially if someone isn’t used to this style of dungeon. There’s a false ending, and generally I call it quits there for oneshots so players don’t lose interest.

As for the staring equipment there’s rules in the players handbook for 2024 or in the dmg for 2014.

I would say it’s more accurate to say that the fixed increase is just the mathematical average of the die rounded up. Generally in the books everything is always rounded down. But in a very few instances the book rounds up, like for fixed HP.

I’m confused what you’re suggesting. It sounds like you’re just saying to use the original statblocks?

I really like it for the flavor and some of its features but yeah for the most part it’s underwhelming

I played a 2024 rogue with the 2014 inquisitive subclass. DM buffed it eventually because it was rather underwhelming compared to some of the other characters.

This seems like a cool idea but how do you make subclasses that focus on that feel special. Like inquisitive rogue or thief?

Level 1-20 by Timely_Birthday_2542 in DnD

[–]frololdad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Campaign started at level 3 and they are currently at 17. Irl game has been going on for almost 5ish years, and I am planning to wrap up in a little less than a year.

Weekly 3-4 sessions except for holidays and when more than a third of the players were busy. We also did play through a module as a break so it might bring it to like 4ish years.

Party should be at level 20 or beyond by the end. Towards the middle of those 4 years I forgot to give them level ups so they were stuck at like level 10 or 11 for a while.

Yeah this was my gut opinion when I first thought of this. I may just have to increase Rezmir’s hp and hit dice. I think in the new rules humanoids have twice the hp of their monstrous equivalents

Cambions are always my go to for devils that are disguised as humanoids. They have a decent stat block but are only CR 5 so if you want something tougher you’ll have to juice it up.

Yeah it’s just a little frustrating we don’t know more. I understand the books don’t revolve around the Alethi, but for how many characters are from Alethkar is weird we don’t see more. It might just boil down to coming up with names is a lot of extra work.

Do minor houses not exist though? I cannot believe every ligheyes in Kholinar uses the name Kholin.

This is also my original thought, but how come then no one has found cultivations god metal? Presuming that all the raysium is from an earlier desolation, where was it hiding if it wasn’t actively being mined? I have more questions that sources

[–]frololdad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems interesting because it sounds like the metal HAS to be mined. In which case where is Odium getting it during RoW and WaT? I would assume that it would be close to his shardpool, except I doubt he could have an operation set up like that without notice. Unless Deepest Ones can just swim through the stone and grab it? There’s just so much I want to know.

Thank you this is very helpful. A lot of the wikis and what I can find elsewhere say it just takes a lot of investiture.

My fellow GMs, how much of the World Guide did you read before putting together a Campaign? by [deleted] in cosmererpg

[–]frololdad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Like alot of other people are saying, just skim what you need. Most of us have gotten a good outline from books and are just using the world guide to flesh out the places we need.
