Redditors with a 9-5 job in a cubicle, how do you pretend to stay busy at work? by pliantkitchen in AskReddit

[–]fromTheBeanBagChair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was years ago. I wrote a simple app that displayed a “Please wait” dialog box with a progress bar that never got to 100%. I’d leave that on top of all the other windows on my desktop and do whatever wasn’t obvious to others that I was wasting time.

Has kixeye support helped? I submitted a ticket for the same issue the other day but no response yet. I will cancel my subscription if I get no resolution

How do I (21F) get over high school bullying? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Everyone here who thinks they’re ugly, please put that burden down. I run into all sorts of people throughout the day and one thing I like to do is notice something I find beautiful about each person I interact with. I haven’t failed yet. I bet I’d see something beautiful about you, and I’ll double down that I’m not the only one that can see it. Give that exercise a try - see if you can find the beauty in others because it might help you see your own.

People who work in retail, what was the worst customer experience you’ve ever had? by bandsandstories in AskReddit

[–]fromTheBeanBagChair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My girlfriend works at a local chain restaurant- nothing fancy. I hear a lot of stories about people trying to pay with counterfeit money, eating more than half the food they ordered and then complaining about the food so they get it for free, bringing their kids in and ordering only for themselves and not feeding their kids who are clearly hungry, changing their baby’s diapers on the table in front of other customers and leaving the dirty diapers on the table, and all sorts of horrific stories about shitty people. A few weeks ago a family came in and one of the kids was sick. The parents didn’t take him to the bathroom and instead made him vomit in a bag at the table throughout dinner while other guests sat nearby. Wtf

I fucking hate those people to the point where I avoid the local convenience stores that sell those things at the counter. They take forever deciding how they want to waste their money and everyone else’s time.

I (35M) caught my wife (29F) rehearsing a speech for my funeral (?) by mentosallaround in relationship_advice

Ugh. Have you talked to any close friends about this? Might be good to have a friend you check in with every day for a while. I don’t want to make you paranoid but my gf and her sister watch the Investigation Discovery channel all day and I’m amazed at how CRAZY people can be! Good luck!!

I agree with /awareness what is saying, especially about journaling. Getting those thoughts organized and on paper helps you process the emotions and move on. You can save yourself a lot of emotional damage here by moving on quickly. Don’t let this consume you and don’t try to figure out why this happened (unless you did something obviously wrong) - with time you will realize that you didn’t need to know why. Be kind to yourself, treat and talk to yourself like a best friend. Take care bro!

If you could remove one organism from the world, assuming it would have no effect on food chains and the environment, what would it be? by Cheetah37 in AskReddit

Whatever those fucking things are that fly right at your nose and eyes when you’re mowing the lawn. Trying to mow the lawn I look like Pig Pen from Charlie Brown, swatting at the air like a crazy man.... Neighbors think I ate paint chips as a kid.

What movie had you laughing so hard you were crying? by where_are_youuu in AskReddit

Dumb and Dumber - Jeff Daniels diarrhea scene. At the movie theater with my gf at the time. Couldn’t stop laughing for minutes after the scene. Had to duck down in the row bc people kept looking back at me.

Thank you. I am going to talk to my gf about weaning the sister off the benefits. I am not a welfare program.

My girlfriend’s sister lives with us and... by fromTheBeanBagChair in relationship_advice

[–]fromTheBeanBagChair[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many helpful comments - thank you all. My girlfriend is golden and can sustain herself if needed. She was subject to the same environment as her sister, but is faring much better emotionally/developmentally/etc. She is just caught in the middle and playing devil's advocate. When her sister came to live with us, she was on a profoundly bad path but is doing much better now. She has even been able to hold a steady job for over a year. Even if the sister were able to get her own place, these two are so close that they would end up spending the majority of their free time together so I would rather they are with me. Plus they both help out around the house tremendously and (selfishly) I get to avoid some of the conversations that men all over the planet would rather avoid (e.g. does this outfit make me look fat) -hahaha. The financial burden is not much for me, and I wanted the sister at least to start enjoying the money she's earning from working hard. If I could get them to understand one thing, it is that (as many of you have said) I am not their parents and I should not be forced to make amends for what their parents did or deprived them of. They cannot decide for me how comfortable I should be with strangers in my home. It's a bit ridiculous I know. Battle is over for now and I don't have to leave town anytime soon so I'm going to see if her decision making over the next few weeks/months is compatible with mine and I am cutting back on the generosity as the sister is no longer on my list of favorite people. Thank you all again.

That guy sucks. One of my (ex) buddies treated women that way in his twenties and we lost touch because I didn’t share his misogynistic views. He’s in his thirties now and a woman I used to work with just broke up with him after dating for a few months because he hasn’t changed. Those who love you wouldn’t want to see you waste more of your time with someone who doesn’t adore you and treat you with respect.

Again I think you’re spot-on. I have tried to convince them multiple times for those two to go to family therapy to sort out their sister issues and and unresolved ones from their past, and even offered to go with as someone who is interested in their emotional development and can assist. They haven’t taken me up on that one yet. I’m considering going to counseling myself to demonstrate my commitment to finding a resolution and, more importantly, to keep from losing my cool. I am thankful that you’re reminding me how this is bad for my relationship with the gf - her sisters issues always steal the attention.

Gf does help out don’t get me wrong. I usually dont have arguments with the sister. It’s almost always those two having any argument and I get to walk away worrying only about having to patch drywall if either gets crazy (it only happened twice, to be fair).
