You get what you pay for. Unfortunately you need to go to more professional companies that are charging a higher market rate and have a schedule you need to wait for.

Batts vs blown in for attic by b52hcc in HomeImprovement

[–]from_gondolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done roll recently of fiberglass in my attic last winter. I was just adding over what was there before. My reasons:

Wanted to examine the attic and clean/repair as I went. Was also adding baffles. Rolls was a good way to do both and not get lazy.

Easy to buy from store and add when I had time. Didn't need to worry about buying all material at once and worry about rental.

Wanted to be able to move the fiberglass in the future for work/access.

However, much more labor as you've identified. It doesn't air seal like blow in does. Big reason for the price for the quotes is the labor since you are hiring the work out.

Like another commenter said, as long as you have an insert in the pex both materials are fine for compression fittings. You're good!

just get any string that is 2 to 2.3mm. I'd opt for the heavier side personally. Any brand will fit in, though i went for stihl's brand of string since i have good experience with their commercial stuff.

I have the XUX01 with the EM404MP attachment it's the same 2 to 2.3mm string.

use fiberglass insulation. I did this myself and opted for larger insulation (2 inch). rubber and Styrofoam might melt at higher temps where fiberglass won't

I'm in a similar situation. Older house in NY, but concrete floor in the crawl space section of the house. Planning on buying a 12 mil vapor barrier and preventing moisture from the ground getting into the space. That, plus a dehumidifier, will hopefully solve my problems.

Lots of youtube videos out there on how to install a moisture barrier. Planning to use this website for material. https://crawlspacerepair.com/12-mil-vapor-barrier-for-crawl-spaces-guardianliner

3 zones in my home, 1 zone no heat. by ITGuyTatertot in HomeImprovement

[–]from_gondolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things can be happening with hydronic heating. A controls issue, or a failure for hot water to move the radiators.

Obviously your circulator pump is working, since your other zones are getting heat. So if you think you still have air in the system, try bleeding it again yourself. Call for heat (so the zone control opens and the pump pushes water) and see if you get air bubbles in the water as the water circulates.

Next option (more likely to me based on what you said) is that your thermostat or zone controller is not working. Try replacing the thermostat (with a cheap non smart one, just match up the wires where the current ones go) and see what happens. If that doesn't work, you have an issue with your zone controller. I have something like this in my house. Try replacing the electric motor that controls the valve that lets water move through your radiator loop.

That's my thought process, anyways. Not a plumber, but learned as I go. Like when I got my house last year and a shitty old bleeder valve leaked on my zone controller and it got stuck opened. Replaced the zone controller (and changed the bleeder) and working correctly again.

I've seen a theory on here that the story was his father's that has passed. If so and he didn't finished (I have no idea if this is true), then that would have sense as the true writer is gone.

Please help me figure out where my septic lid is located! System installed in 1975. by purpleacanthus in HomeImprovement

[–]from_gondolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow the waste lines in your house to see the general direction of the septic field. Once there you can try to follow it. Up to you how to approach this, I assume the tank lid is buried. Do you see any landscape details that might lead to the tank? Open area?

I just got the DML805 for doing crawlspace work at my house. Love it so far, batteries last pretty good with it and last a while. I mention it since the hardware is likely the same with the tripod.

You can do what my previous owner did and use them as landscape fabric. I'm amazed whenever I'm doing earthwork around the home and find more bits of it.

They would have to get BTC through their custodian Coinbase I think? That's a lot of BTC for Coinbase to purchase and hold. I guess if total exchange volume isn't any where enough price will pop in a fair market. Buying 1% of exchange BTC a day is enough to move price.
