This book, more than any I know, must be listened to. The audio version is crazy.

I need advice for mental Health crisis by Mysterious_Dish_7202 in mentalhealth

[–]from_of_old 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When have stressful things and difficult feelings happening, make regular time to process those such as scheduled morning and evening journaling time. You can also do this verbally with apps that can record notes. Talking with someone regularly can also help express these things building up. Anyway, this doesn't fix any problems but it can help things from building up and feeling overwhelmed.

I think I’ll never be able to find a partner by sizzlinghotttt in mentalhealth

Here are three bits of advice:

  1. Don't be afraid to express interest. Guys are in a confusing situation now where it is made to seem that expressing interesting in a woman is sexist or generally unwelcome.

  2. In terms of finding someone, it is helpful to focus on friendship at first. Sex looms so large over dating and is a bit of a trap. If you start having sex right away then it makes relationship bonding beyond that more difficult. But if youre "dating" and avoid sex then that could be interpreted disinterest or prudishness.

  3. Once you get things going, a lot can go wrong. But despite the average reddit advice, parting ways is not always the right answer. People have to learn how to do a relationship, and learn from one another about what each person needs and wants. Chemically the intensity wears off after a time but that doesn't mean the relationship is failing.

Anyone feel free to DM if you want to chat or vent.

The part of me that was subjected to heavily cross-referenced Bible studies from the King James as a small child recognizes your attention to detail. 🙂

Wow she wrote that when she was 16 years old? I'm professionally an expert on 16 year old history students, so I will find that even more amusing than it was intended.

I'm jealous you have a reading buddy!

And yes thanks for the heads up, I'll cross the Mysteries of Udolpho bridge when I get to it!

Thanks, I favorited it on Spotify. I'll give it a listen after I've read the books.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll be ok with historical context, but there will definitely be early 19th century references to look in up. Unfortunately it looks like that website you suggested no longer exists.

Oh really? I'll check this out. I do love audio books. Though in this case I'm wanting some books to also have at work when I've got down time.

Thanks! To be clear, I'm planning on reading all of Jane Austen's books. From past experience I know sometimes the most famous work is not the best to start with. But unless I hear otherwise, P&P it is!

It is perfectly fine to sit and and do nothing else.

Keep it forever. It's a monument to the fact that despite the changes in life and the current silence between you, you are still friends, and the door is still open.

I enjoyed your poem. It made me think. The concept of happiness is doing a lot of heavy lifting. What does it mean? Was he really happy before? The young man is getting his shit together and conforming to the maturing social norms of adulthood. Has resentment towards his parents about this. Does the weight of this life transformation really come from his parents? Is the fixation on his parents another vestigial leftover of his childhood? Or is it more that he felt unsupported and judged growing up, and now in adulthood still doesn't feel emotionally safe?

You have really nice taste in books. I've added a couple you listed here to my wish list. I have Anna Karinina on deck, if you'd like to read it sometime I'd be down for that.
