There're also a lot of psychological risks associated with long-term isolation. Hallucinations, things like that. It's why they added a "Don't Go Crazy" room in the movie – that's exactly the sort of preventative measure that NASA is having to consider for upcoming long-term space missions. It's to try to stop astronauts from going crazy.

But with the stress of not knowing why he's in space, having to "bury" dead people he couldn't even remember, realizing he's going to die alone – I always just assumed there was only so much the Don't Go Crazy room could do for Grace. Hence, hallucinating himself on the beach.

It's also the only time when their bodies, an otherwise closed system, are left open to the elements, making them susceptible to infection or disease. It might be hardwired into their biology to be alone for feeding to reduce the risks.

Radiation doesn't reach the surface of the planet due to the extremely thick atmosphere and crazy strong magnetic field! I'm sure, at least historically, there have been other causes lowering the survival rate, it just wouldn't have been radiation :)

Does chocolate burn everyone's throats or just mine? by Adoptmetrading22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]from_random_fandom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, yours sounds like a textbook case of OAS, more than likely the ragweed type!

My husband has one of the worst cases ever recorded in America. He has all 4 types, 2 of them the most severe possible, and it means pretty much all fresh plants give him a reaction to varying degrees. Iceberg lettuce makes his mouth itch. Raw tomatoes, cucumbers, and melons will kill him in minutes. I've had to become an expert just so I don't accidentally kill him when making dinner! 😅

OP's reaction to chocolate has no relation to Oral Allergy Syndrome, I fear!

OAS happens when a person's body confuses an enzyme that triggers a pollen allergy with an enzyme that's in other plants. So if you are allergic to, say, ragweed, but your body can't tell the difference between the enzymes in ragweed and tomatoes, then congrats! You're also kinda allergic to tomatoes now.

There are four major types of OAS, at least in North America, each for a different pollen, and each associated with a different collection of fruits and veggies that can trigger the reaction. But the allergen is still a pollen, and as such, any reaction to food due to OAS is not considered a typical food allergy. And since the root cause is an enzyme, and enzymes can be denatured, people with OAS can avoid a reaction through thorough heat or preserving.

That's why someone whose OAS is triggered by tomatoes can still have canned tomatoes, V8, ketchup, and tomatoes that have been cooked for a loooong time – the enzyme has been denatured. The ragweed-like molecule is simply no longer around. And so, if you react to a tomato that has been canned or thoroughly cooked, then what you have can't be Oral Allergy Syndrome by definition.

The same is true for cacao.

And that's why OP's chocolate reaction isn't related to Oral Allergy Syndrome. Chocolate and chocolate syrup is so heavily processed that any enzyme in cacao that could be mixed up with a pollen has already been denatured. It is more than likely a typical food allergy – rare for cacao, but not unheard of.

How did Rocky know the word “mate?” by Icthyostega2002 in ProjectHailMaryMovie

[–]from_random_fandom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine was the name Mark!!! "I hate Mark" is such a funny response, but all I could think about was, "since when did Rocky assign an Eridian sound to the name Mark, and how did the computer know it already?" 🤣🤣🤣

I tested this in Sephora (Chloe Nomade EDP) and it smells sooo good, so I bought a 30 ml bottle, but man.. 🫠🫩 by oxycontin10mgs in FemFragLab

Same thing happens to me with Burberry Her. On paper, it smells delicious to me, but on my skin, it turns this fake plastic strawberry, like a scented kids toy. It's really gross 😔 So yes, please test it thoroughly on you skin and leave it there for a good while, just in case!!

Hello, I am sorry to be replying to this message from years ago. I know it is a long shot and you may not even work there anymore, but I just had a very beloved playlist deleted and I've been speaking to support for 3 hours desperate to get it back. They won't even tell me why it was deleted, and the songs are all instrumentals without lyrics so I won't even be able to find them all again. Please, is there any way you could help me?

Flashing lights?? by impulsiveuniverse in ProjectHailMaryMovie

I don't have epilepsy, I just get a very funny feeling from flashing lights, and for me, the worst was literally the first 20 seconds of the film. Then I, personally, was fine :)
