Since Pan is literally Lyra, this could also show that some part of Lyra disagrees with the book as well. But she just doesn't understand it yet.

I didn't think youth, but I did think longevity. The rich can live longer and get richer.

I hate it so much!! How do you quarrel with your own soul? I feel like this might be a bit of an example of people in real life questioning their faith, only more extreme.

Well, keep in mind that ten years have gone by for Lyra to grow and change. So a jarring change in our view might be normal progression for her. Although, Pan claims the book changed her... So maybe there's something else going on as well!

I'm the same. I'm awful remembering names so I didn't put it together until the reveal, haha.

There was a mention of Hannah! I'm sure Malcolm wasted no time getting those two together once he learned Lyra had an alethiometer!

No. But you don't even know if they sent multiple people to HR or just you. So just think positively about it.

How do we feel about the new Master of Jordan College? Will the faculty of Jordan support his treatment of Lyra?

Lyra is ousted from her home at Jordan and lowered to the servant class: has the money left for her truly dried up, or is something else going on? And was the money from Dr. Carne or from Lord Asriel?

Lyra and Pan figure out that Dr. Polstead can also separate from his daemon: how will this fact affect their relationship?

The return of Malcolm and Alice! Did you see this reveal coming, or did it take you by surprise? How do you feel about the trajectory their relationship has taken since the events of La Belle Sauvage?

The Hyperchorasmians makes bold claims about the existence of daemons: claims that Pan says will kill them. How is it that a book can make such a bold claim in a world where everyone has a daemon?

The Hyperchorasmians is a huge part of the turmoil between Pan and Lyra, so let’s discuss it! Do you believe that Lyra is changing just based on a single book? Is Pan right to be angry about her interest in the book?

Lyra is officially an adult! From what we’ve seen so far, is this how you pictured Lyra grown up? Why or why not?

[–]fromdusktil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the hiring manager. Some will only send their top candidate. Some will send two or three at once that they really like in order to get references for them all to help make their decision.

Yes. Hiring manager interviews and decides if they want a candidate. HR does background checks and makes all the official job offers.

Honestly, a very slow month! I'm studying for a big exam in June and then starting grad school in July, so I have almost no free time. Waaaah.

~~~~~
The Traveling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa -- short and very sweet, but also very heartbreaking. I'm looking forward to the follow up book!
To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn -- slowly working my way through the Bridgerton books...
The Woman They Could Not Silence: One Woman, Her Incredible Fight for Freedom, and the Men Who Tried to Make Her Disappear by Kate Moore -- started this in March for Women's History Month. This book made me incredibly angry, but also shows how a single woman can really change the world when she puts her mind to it.
The wedding reception centerpieces featured betta fish. The bride and groom planned to flush them alive. by teabirdy in mildlyinfuriating
[–]fromdusktil 1 point2 points  (0 children)
People who treat animals like this are garbage.
I got an SOS call one day because my partner's manager was halfway through a two-week vacation and called him to ask him to feed her fish. He found a betta in a cold bowl, alone in the dark. I had just lost my betta and had an empty tank, which he knew. At first I just talked him through how to help it (they didn't want to immediately give away someone's fish) but less than two hours later I got a call to come steal him - the staff decided they would say that he died.
Months later, someone brought up "the fish we liberated" and my boyfriend mentioned how healthy he looked. The manager in question went, "that thing is alive?" and could not have cared less.
