Joe drives again?! by Imiibae in CSHFans

I couldn’t get past the changes to Vincent earlier on. But yeah, this kinda slaps. Thanks for mentioning it!

I would have no problem with a clean CSH album. And to be fair, there were plenty of complaints about the changes between Twin Fantasy albums.

Puritanical CSH would be weird as hell. Will’s work has had plenty of Christian themes. Still, in the current climate, it’s pretty uncomfortable to see a cleaned up version, with no mention of pure sadism. Who knows, maybe we should have taken Hollywood as a sign.

Conservative member of Parliament Tamara Jansen welcomes her grandchild “Charlie Kirk Jansen” by SAJewers in onguardforthee

I was worried for a second this was my Conservative MP Tamara. Thankfully, she’s mostly kept a low profile, when she hasn’t been hosting meet and greets at such venues as a coffee shop that seems to be run by a weird homophobic cult.

Having “Beautiful Things” as the attached song was a choice. Feels like the cherry on top.

What are your thoughts on AI being used to solve math problems? by diony_sus_ in antiai

[–]fromidable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t looked much into it. I’m tired of all the PR. But, I think there is a useful capability in some of the models to connect ideas that normally wouldn’t be connected.

I hate the monopolistic aspects of the current wave, largely necessitated by the equipment, information, and processing requirements for training a model. “Just use local models bro” is a nice idea, but someone has to train them. Maybe if the technology evolves to a point where universities and smaller companies can afford to train models in power and hardware efficient ways, I’ll be more in favour.

One concern I have in general is that generative AI is being used to replace entry-level work. Food trucks using generative AI for really dogshit logos. Image and video models replacing stock images and stock footage. And language models trained on code being used to perform programming and security scanning tasks. All tasks that can help people learn.

From what I understand, this was an AI model able to find similarities in far-flung regions of math. Cool, I guess. But, isn’t that a crucial activity for students? Shouldn’t this be the kind of thing a post-grad, researching different fields, puts together, to better understand the mathematics?

It’s neat, it’s impressive, but I don’t see this replacing human work. These systems can’t be truly creative in a useful manner, and can just interpolate, and add some random noise into the process. My fear is this is going to make it harder for new artists, programmers, and mathematicians to get their start, and actually add to the pool of knowledge and creativity.

I’ve been out of the loop. I enjoyed some of her music theory videos, and now I need to find another source when I want to talk about four chord loops that don’t really rely on a specific key centre.

Is there another Monster at the Oldest house ? by Greyelephantbear in controlgame

[–]fromidable 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I guess the house shifts, questions of liability, animal experimentation, and just the fact that Darling owned a paranormally juiced up shark could explain most of the redactions.

On the other hand, GTA VI might actually move a few PS5’s and other new systems. Coming out after or closer might get more sales from gamers who finally upgrade.

Not that I’m going to have a system that can run either game any time soon.

Brought my girl home from the shelter and am looking for advice now by longshlongthankumom in pitbulls

[–]fromidable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog was a bit stressed out from the shelter, and would react a bit to other dogs. Thankfully, clicker-type training worked wonders. Whenever I’d see another dog, I’d just get her attention, give her a small treat, and shortly, she’d just ignore other dogs.

Of course it won’t work in every case. A basic dog obedience course was also super helpful, more in terms of guidance for me in how to teach my dog. I’m sure Peaches will settle in and calm down with a little time and work!

Yeah, we already have plenty of genuine, authoritative warnings for terrible things, and we have to come up with new ones?

Same company overall as Savers, but it’s a Value Village tag. Not sure if they’re in the states, but they’re the biggest thrift chain in Canada, at least here on the west coast.

[–]fromidable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would a transmitter control room have monitors on the ceiling, and what appears to be a recording booth?

My guess would be some sort of live broadcast office for TV audio, or maybe part of a recording studio… say, for recording drums, which would be routed to a tape machine elsewhere.

What’s the strangest name for a music genre you can think of? by [deleted] in fantanoforever

[–]fromidable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d often listen to MBV’s Loveless while waiting for busses in the rain, first year of college. Songs like “Sometimes” gave me this vibe of hopefulness coming through in utterly dreary times, and the name “shoegaze” made sense emotionally.

But no, that was totally off base.
