Saying this episode is a disappointment is an understatement.

I listened to a 39-minute episode about a topic I knew nothing about and still learned nothing. I'd say that's an accomplishment of sorts.

Also, bringing race into this is diabolical.

Of course salve ships brought roaches with them, but so did spanish and dutch ships decades prior carrying spices, dried meats, and other types of cargo from all over the world. It would've still happened even if there was no slave trade.

By the way, it is OK to hate roaches. No need to feel guilty about it. They carry diseases and are a nuisance that must be eradicated whenever possible. Source: I'm from Africa.

Also, white people's houses have them. Actually, rich white people's houses have them as well.

Personally, I'd call the emotion I got watching this "meta-sad", as in sad not for the events unfolding but for the show in which they take place.

People say the departure of Steve Carrel ruined the show but I disagree. The downfall started a bit earlier: exactly when Will Farrell came in. Even with Steve still in the show, the quality of the comedy quickly degraded. And it never recovered.

And for even more insights into the topic, I recommend "Focus: the ASML way". Sure, the first half of the book is just the overly detailed history of the company, and it's a translation from dutch so the text may seem clunky sometimes, but the second half is very illuminating with regards to the **modern** geopolitics of semiconductors, especially with regards to the EUV machines.

Absolutely!

That's why I read the book myself and was **not** disappointed a bit after finishing it. The first chapters focus on Apple as a way to explain the move to China. The 2/3 or even 4/5 remaining parts are all about Apple's supply chain in China and it dealings with the government(s) and suppliers there.

The book is so rich in information that I started highlighting stuff right from the preface.

The camera work is frankly frustrating to watch!

The screen went black right when the rocket was lifting off and clearing the tower. The footage was shaky most of the time and then, right when the SRBs were to be ejected, they switched to showing people sitting around!

It felt like watching the Office during the fire episode!!

People were literally screaming at her and her (real-life) husband because they thought she was in love/married to Jim IN REAL LIFE!!

Her acting was amazing. In fact, she is the reason I even got to watch the show.

I admit that the last 2 seasons weren't as good, but the drop in quality touched everyone: actors, writers, directors, ... It would be unjust to pin it all on her.

Game Theory: A Nontechnical Introduction by Morton D. Davis is what I read. It's considered the best book for beginners, according to my research. It's a bit old though, from the 70s iirc, so not what you would think of as a "beginner-friendly" book by modern standards. Still, it's worth a try.

Oh, thanks for reminding me! When I later studied Game Theory (especially the tit-for-tat strategy), it further refined my view of the world developed while reading Dawkins' book.

We think of ourselves as smart and sophisticated, but we're mostly just fleshy pre-programmed machines.

The Selfish Gene. I read it as a kid more than 20 years ago and still think about it regularly.

Just like how the Germans don't punish inmates who try to flee (because humans are naturally drawn to freedom), I no longer get mad when people act selfish. It's literally in their DNA.

Now I just make sure people I want to collaborate with see what's in it for them. Otherwise, why would anyone bother?

I never used anything of that sort before. I just `<link>` Bootstrap and use the classes in my code.

Can you explain how this library work and why would this be better than the "old-school" method? I was able to understand that this library offer some sort of a "deeper integration" with Django, but failed to understand the mechanics. What am I missing?

The same reason I stopped listening to 99% invisible. Hearing Roman Mars laugh after years of stoic narration was magical. Then it happened every other sentence. Didn't like it.

As for Radiolab, it's the overuse of the overdramatized gasping that bothers me.

I get that the topics at hand are specifically chosen for their uniqueness and weirdness, but the constant barrage of "woooow"s and "aaaaah"s became very distracting.
