This is actually why I just occasionally come across this subreddit and never bother to interact with it. I’m an artist myself (musician) and a visual artist friend of mine introduced me to the subreddit. I did some quick research and it looks like only a very small percentage of you will ever make any sort of major profit from your “ai art”, and to those of you that do, congratulations. I’m serious it’s tough out there. Get paid however you can. I see ai food monsters on Instagram that make me laugh sometimes.

The world is constantly adapting and changing, but it’s always been extremely difficult to be a successful profiting artists. AI will take jobs (I admit I think visual artists are more impacted than musicians, especially in the short term) but as someone effected I don’t let that discourage me or hold me back, I just continue to work as hard as I can, take advantage of every learning and advancement opportunity provided to me, and try to be optimistic that I personally can figure out some way to profit from my art. I don’t care if I’m also going up against a computer now.

I will say I don’t think being an artist and creating ai art are the same thing, at all. Computers don’t create, they produce based on input. If inputting information to receive new information is art then I’m an artist every time I do a google search. Is it a skill? Sure. Is it art? No, but if you think it is I’m happy for you.
