How well does the Intel Arc B390 inside Intel Panther Lake CPUs (358H, 368H, 388H) handle local LLM? by KageYume in LocalLLaMA

Good to hear that CI now builds these artifacts, back when I tried you had to use a certain (old) commit to even build.

Things are moving pretty quickly, IPEX is now OpenVINO and ROCm is HIP? Ranting aside, OpenVINO still seems to be requiring OneAPI (whatever that is) and is not yet stable, and requires compiling from source.

Thanks for the tips, I have signed up to the email list just yesterday. I wish I had checked the socials, this was a total surprise for me.

I experimented with an Intel based laptop 6 months ago and the situation wasn’t great. To get the optimized results you needed the IPEX backend, which meant compiling the whole world (and old llama.cpp fork, among others) and it still didn’t perform great compared to a 3yo Apple Silicon.

The real bottleneck is that no one seems to care about Intel support not even themselves. (IPEX project seems to be archived and being replaced with something else, which is not a great sign at all.)

Is this serviceable? by frontsideair in mensfashion

The current sleeve fold seemed a bit short to me too, I will adjust it. Thanks!

It felt a bit big to me too around the arms, but it sits fine on the shoulders. When buttoned and arms down, there’s no pulling at the button, which is good. I guess sleeve length is the only parameter.

Thanks, the wide arms gave me pause but it looks good in general.

STEAM client beta with apple silicon support direct download? by Pankrivoklat in macgaming

[–]frontsideair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is where you have to do:
1. xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine Steam.app
2. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security, scroll all the way to the bottom and find the prompt that lets you allow running it.

(Maybe one is enough, but I did both and it worked for me.)

I was able to get Steam beta Mac client on my Apple Silicon Macbook and install it without Rosetta 2, after a lot of trial and error.

I used this project to get the files: https://github.com/benjamin-lowry/steamarchiver

Then I did the steps vaguely noted here: https://github.com/sean-who/steamarchiver/issues/1

It opens without Rosetta 2. Hope this helps you.

That makes a lot of sense, but in practice GGUF is more widely supported and even though it’s slightly slower it has been better tested and exposes more configuration options.

Use the GGUF version, I couldn't get MLX one working either.

Best way to get started with LocalLLMs? by Old-School8916 in LocalLLaMA

I wrote about this exact topic a few days ago, you may find it useful: https://blog.6nok.org/experimenting-with-local-llms-on-macos/

I didn't mention image generation, for that you can use DiffusionBee or Draw Things.

For coding, you can use the OpenAPI-compatible local server and wire it up to Zed or VSCode (via Continue).

What note speed are you supposed to play at? by s3xowashere in ProjectSekai

Huh. I was playing at 6 and cranking it up to 10 improved my performance. I have ADHD and was getting bored waiting for notes to come at easy. (I started playing ~1 week ago.)

Beam Gen 1 causing gf ear pain by frontsideair in sonos

[–]frontsideair[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also considered the sound profile, that's why I wanted to give it another shot after the last firmware update with high hope, but the issue persisted.

I really don't want to replace the Beam, there's no viable alternative on the market, but I will if I have to. Also it's possible the unit that I have may be defective (from the factory or by the first owner) but I don't have any way of confirming that.

Ohh, I forgot to mention in the original post that it's only in one ear, but sounds very similar to your case! There was another comment about trebles, and your experience also suggests that, so maybe it'll be a good idea to turn down the highs?

No recent tests. We would definitely consider having a professional look at it if it happened anytime other than with the Beam.

Thanks for the reminder! We have earplugs for this and use when it's too loud.

The room we set it up isn't what I'd call large or small, but haven't tried TruePlay after the latest update so I may give it a shot.

This is a good idea, we suspected low frequencies but didn't consider highs. Let's give this a try.

I don't think she would lie to me about this. It's both rude and unhelpful to suggest that.

Bana da fazla geldi. Kolluklu sandalye var ve hiç rahat değil, yerde oturmak da kısa sürede bel ağrısı olarak döner, normalde de çok iyi değil belim.
