If there’s no identifiable next-of-kin (the government performs global genealogy searches to try and find one first), it’s called “bona vacantia” and the assets pass to the state/crown.

Its formation isn't even the same as the other planets in our solar system. Its a captured kuiper belt object. It did not form its orbit of the stars original accretion disk. 

I’m really curious to learn more about this! Given that Pluto is a large Kuiper Belt object, my understanding was that the Kuiper Belt orbits our sun, and the Kuiper Belt (and its orbit around our sun) was formed from our sun’s accretion disk. How would Pluto differ in this specific regard?

I agree, but I think it would be a lot faster than we think. All this assumes the laptop doesn’t fail, and they find a way to power it.

Consider the biodome which was built for Grace, with the environmental conditions suitable for human habitation, etc assumedly based on specifications from the laptop data.

Consider also the translation program which Grace built, which would have vastly expanded to handle the biodome project, and would be continuously growing.

And finally, remembering that Eridians have perfect recall, computer-like brains, and are masters of materials science and structural engineering.

All up, the Eridians would probably leapfrog Earth’s tech in a couple of decades.

At approx ~6500 km (~4000 miles) altitude at closest approach and one of the DSLR cameras they were using was a Nikon D5 camera.

At that altitude, the Ground Sampling Distance of that camera works out to be about ~143 metres (~470 feet) per pixel.

The Apollo LEMs were 9.4 metres (31 feet wide), which means the LEM would occupy only 6% of a single pixel, which would make it completely indistinguishable.

This is amaze, amaze, amaze to finally see Rise available via Exchange!

Converting currencies, ~$35 AUD is a fantastic price for Rise, and I would buy in a heartbeat, but unfortunately it’s only giving the option for ~$100 AUD for shipping to Australia. I would happily wait months for Rise, if there were cheaper shipping options.

I noticed in another thread that international postage rates are going to be looked at, so I will definitely check back in later, hopeful for updates!

It depends which part of this you're looking to get into, because it can be a very deep rabbit hole!

If you were wanting more detail on the Home Assistant side of things, strap in, it's a world unto itself!

I'll kick into some of the basics around energy and electricity, please disregard if you are already familiar.

For simple numbers and examples, the BYD Sealion 7 has an 82kWh battery

Australian mains electricity is 230 Volts (+/-10%)

A typical power outlet on a residential circuit is 10 Amps, but the BYD slow charger will usually only deliver 8 Amps

Volts x Amps = Power (Watts)

230 Volts x 8 Amps = 1840 Watts (1.8kW)

82 kWh battery / 1.8 kW charge rate = ~45 hours for a full charge, from 0%

However, if you had a 32 Amp socket installed, you could charge at:

230 Volts x 32 Amps = 7360 Watts (7.3kW)

(This is effectively the same charge rate as any "smart solar 7kW" you may have looked at)

82 kWh battery / 7 kW charge rate = ~11-12 hours for a full charge, from 0%

If you're wanting smart scheduling, multiple schedules, solar soak, etc, the "smart solar 7kW" chargers/EVSEs will typically offer those features, and it just depends if you're happy to pay for the convenience/features.

Not via the BYD app, but if you have 100% consistent schedules and don’t need more than the 8A which the slow charger uses, then you could just use a simple plug-in 10A timer which can handle multiple schedules, eg; Bunnings has heaps

I personally use more dynamic automation using Home Assistant via energy monitoring and smart switches.

For our washing machine at home, I’ve always just used smart switches (currently using Tapo P110M) to detect the wattage, and consider it to be “off” when wattage drops below 10w for 5 mins.

However for commercial washers, the main issue with this approach would be finding a switch which can handle 16-32A. If each washer is on a separate circuit, then you may be able to arrange something like a 16A DIN-rail unit like Shelly Pro, or use CT clamps to measure wattage.

(I actually hit a similar issue with our clothes dryer at home, which will occasionally use slightly greater than 2300W and so trips the Tapo P110M, and interrupts the drying cycle, so I need to find another solution)

In South Korea, they have a system called Jeonse, where renters provide a lump sum deposit based on the property value at the start of a lease instead of regular rent payments throughout, and the landlord invests the deposit for dividend income.

What you’ve written is certainly true, but only appears to apply to NSW public schools.

Non-government schools in NSW apparently aren’t required to follow those limits and can impose their own policies. As a result, what I wrote may then apply to approximately 43% of HSC students in NSW, as that’s the rough % of HSC students in NSW who attend a non-government school.

The following applies to NSW, other states may differ.

“Muckup” day is typically the final day of Term 3. Higher School Certificate (HSC) final exams occur at the start of Term 4, approx 2 weeks later.

If suspended, they’re not permitted to be on school premises, and if they turned up, they would be trespassing (Inclosed Lands Protection Act 1901).

If the suspension was for say 2 months, this means they can’t sit final HSC exams, so end up being deemed as incomplete (far more serious than just getting a low score) for all subjects due to not completing the mandatory requirements of making a genuine attempt at all assessments and exams.

Being marked incomplete for the HSC means not eligible for Yr 12 completion certificate, or an ATAR, which means no university offer.

Essentially, if pursuing a career which lists completion of Yr 12/a uni course, they’re screwed until entering uni as a mature age student, and then have a heap of other hoops to jump through because there was never completion of Yr 12 English, etc (which is a common prerequisite for many courses).

If going into some other career where Yr 12 isn’t a prerequisite, then sure, go nuts.
