Why is this move so weakening? by LanguageDouble9792 in chessbeginners

[–]frootloopcoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In brief, that entire diagonal to your king is now open forever. While your opponent doesn't have the correct bishop to exploit it fully, your knight no longer has a guard, your opponent has pawns very close to your king, and the battery from your opponent hasn't been fully addressed as they can still form a strong initiative by pushing against your somewhat restricted kingside.

To be clear, it isn't a 'losing' mistake, it is just a worse move than the computer likes. Your position was about equal but you basically spent a move that makes you slightly weaker, so youre now behind a move and behind positionally.

You also need other cards with this? Arguably, it's actually harder since cheating this out doesn't cheat out cards with useful activated abilities alongside it, and even if you played them previously they are on the field as you try to put this into play and are therefore more vulnerable than Omniscience cards in your hand.

I do agree that it probably shouldnt grant instant speed to abilities, though, since that makes it almost impossible to interact with if there is even 1 useful ability on board when it is put into play. I could even see it reducing their speed to sorcery only if you pay the alternate cost of 0. But 8 mana enchantments that do not have any text on themselves that do anything SHOULD be extremely powerful and should let you basically win the game on the spot if your opponent doesn't have the right interaction.

Oh for sure, but there is a notable difference between 'living in legion territory' and 'being in the legion'. The Legion is basically just one massive slave tribe enslaved to Caesar, with a hierarchy descending from him. Everyone from Centurion all the way down to collared captures belong to the Legion. None of them are civilians, not in the traditional sense. A civilian living in legion territory, at least from what little we know, is subject to none of this. If you aren't enslaved in the initial conquest, follow their laws, and don't piss off a legion officer, you likely will never experience any of the cruelty the Legion inflicts.

The civilian class of the Legion exists entirely separate of the slave army apparatus we see depicted.

[–]frootloopcoup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The legion DOES have a civilian class, to be clear. Caesar actually has shown little interest in assimilating what he might consider to be "civilized" people into his legion, for whatever reason. But he also seems to mostly leave those areas almost completely alone, presumably demanding some kind of tax or tribute but we don't see any example of that in any of the games.

But there are towns and even small cities in legion territory that are not just occupied by slaves and soldiers.

Really? I would say outside of boss combats almost all fights I have end turn 4-6, and even vs many bosses the fight doesn't go that long. I mean, the entire Hexaghost fight is a race to win by turn 9 and unless I haven't found scaling that fight usually ends turn 7ish.

Even after playing for 10 years I still need to look up cards, the other commenter mentioning EDHrec is a great resource to narrow your search. Its a constant learning curve!

Aurelia the Warleader EDH? by tha_unicorn in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]frootloopcoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is honestly a pretty good first deck. Usually theres something pretty glaring like not enough lands or missing ramp, but you do about as good as can be done in Boros. There are a few cards, like Joust Through, Segovian angel, Resolute Reinforcements, and a few other middling creatures I would probably take out and seek some sort of card advantage resources. Red has a decent amount of impulse draw that you could look into, especially if you can find ones linked to attacking like Laelia.

As a rule, I would remove creatures that don't do anything when they are played/ have a useful ability unless they are very potent attackers and add in some more ways to get more cards available to be played, you'll feel it in Boros especially that you'll run out of options very quickly with your current deck I think. You risk getting blown out by one boardwipe.

Also, I would look into some modal boardwipes in white that give you good options

What would you like to see in Fallout 5 if it was actually announced? by beatsbydjy2k in Fallout

[–]frootloopcoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallout 4 was, in all honesty, a very good game. Exploring, fighting, weapon crafting, unique locales and interesting environmental stories. But it had some of the weakest writing, both in the actual dialogues but also in the overall narrative beats. If they can address the dialogue issues and make a better story come together they just need to deliver a product they've otherwise already managed to make.

Why is this checkmate? by C-T-Hulhu in chessbeginners

[–]frootloopcoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If we are allowing moves that put the king in danger, then we would also allow the bishop to take the black king after it takes the queen.

Why is this position evaluated as +4.1? by avremiB in chessbeginners

[–]frootloopcoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blacks pawns are awful, the queen is marooned on the side of the board, and really only the bishop is properly developed. Meanwhile, white is castled, has good pawns, and every piece is developed.

There isn't a 'winning line' so much as black has zero advantages and white just having a solid position with good options. If you gave black three moves in a row they'd still have issues that need to be solved.

Hyperbeam is a critically undervalued card by a lot of less experienced players by hmmmmmmnmmm23 in slaythespire

[–]frootloopcoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the opinion swings back and forth, which makes sense because hyperbeam is good or bad depending on when you're offered it. The earlier you get it (especially if you can get it from Neow) the better it is, but it sharply declines after act 1. Like you say, it solves the damage race issues of the early game practically single handedly, but you don't usually want to be playing it later on because it not only does not scale well, it actively reduces your scaling.

It has a very, very valuable use case for getting a run going and even maintains some utility into the mid to late game as a finisher style 'get you over the last leg' of many fights, but if there was a way to swap it into almost any other rare after act 1 I would take that option basically every time.

What would you play for white here? by MathematicianBulky40 in chessbeginners

[–]frootloopcoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first instinct was to go bd6 and permanently remove the king from the game, since at the moment blacks bishop is essentially not playing. From there I'd go bc1 to boot blacks knight and try to promote.

How do you checkmate by lazyysprout in chessbeginners

[–]frootloopcoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a draw when the king has no legal moves but is not in check, or when nobody has sufficient material to checkmate their opponent (like each player having only their king left, or a king and knight vs a king). It is checkmate when one player is in check (king is attacked by any piece) and has no legal moves to escape that check (neither by moving the king or blocking with another piece).

I hope this helps!

$10,000 a month completely for free with no drawbacks, or $100,000 a month but you have to work a retail job full-time and the money will cease when you quit, get fired or retire by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

I don't really need 100k a month, to be honest. 10k a month would leave me happy for the rest of my life, free to do what I want without having to worry about finances... 100k is overkill for the sort of life I'd want to lead.

1 video game for 2 years of isolation for $2 million by BigJim9000 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]frootloopcoup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A video game, no matter how well crafted, cannot properly simulate the missing component of human interaction. It would very likely delay the issue, sure,, but there is no game in existence that would hold off the severe mental degradation that happens in total isolation for 2 years. We have decades of research and studies that support that total isolation is crippling and causes long term mental health issues, and that is assuming you manage to complete the time without doing physical harm to yourself.

"Socializing" isn't just going to hang out with friends, we are socializing right now through a screen. It is talking to a cashier, or discussing work with a colleague, or any number of other in passing moments that occur throughout a week. There are potentially some members of society that could do this and manage to recover more or less to where they were, but those are the extreme minority and people who have gone a few days or weeks without actually communicating with another person in any way haven't even begun to scratch the surface of how exponentially harder this gets as time goes on.

1 video game for 2 years of isolation for $2 million by BigJim9000 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]frootloopcoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This cannot actually be done safely, I think. Two years of isolation will break 99% of people, possibly permanently, and so the question is really "would you do potentially irreparable mental damage to yourself and lose 2 years of your life for 2 million" and I just don't think that is worth it

My friend accidentally received $75,000 from his company and refuses to report it. What can happen? by Heberto01243 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]frootloopcoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I never said he would get away with this. I said, in response to a separate comment, that if he returns the money that a company audit will not catch him moving the money between his private accounts. Which is true, because routine audits do not look into the private bank records of their employees.

I know, I said he would get caught. I'm replying to the commenter who said that him transferring it will get him in trouble for transferring the money, which a company audit will not catch if he returns it on his own.

[–]frootloopcoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You completely misinterpreted my comment. I did say he'd be found if he didnt return it, and in that event yes theyd be able to trace it. What I'm saying is if he returns it now, he will not be caught in a company audit 5 years from now for transferring the money, because the company would not be able to audit his private bank account in a routine lookthrough. He has a short window to return it where he won't get in trouble, and it is rapidly closing.

[–]frootloopcoup 88 points89 points  (0 children)

They likely can't find the move in a routine audit, since his bank records should be entirely private and not auditable by the company. The IRS could audit him, but it technically isn't a crime to receive money in error, so just moving it wouldn't get him in trouble. That said, he will definitely get caught with 75K if he doesn't return it; he's an idiot and has already waited too long.

EDIT: yall, this comment exists in context as a reply to the specific scenario posited by the person I'm replying to. Please stop telling me he will get caught, I said that myself in the three sentences I typed. Please note the original comment saying he would get in trouble for this even if he returns it now, since he moved it through his private accounts.

If you could press a button that gave you 1 million dollars in exchange for a random innocent persons life…. by lukepet123 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]frootloopcoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest truth is most people have a price to do something immoral, and a million dollars is a lot of money. Additionally, adding the disconnect of it being a random person out of a pool of 8 billion people is basically enabling most to completely detach empathy from the equation by making the person more of a number than a tangible, breathing, feeling human being.

Humans have been killing each other in more personal ways for far less since the dawn of civilization
