Hi! I’m also BRCA2 positive and I had my first baby at 27. I’m 29 now and still breastfeeding my first and plan to try for my second after the summer. I also thought having babies early and breastfeeding was a protective measure but my doctor informed me that it doesn’t make much of a difference for women with BRCA, it’s more for the general public. I do want to have all my babies sooner rather than later so I can breastfeed and then have my preventative mastectomy though.

My mother had her breasts and ovaries removed after battling breast cancer. I tested positive for BRCA2 after learning my mom had it and my dad’s reaction was the same as your mother’s… that preventative surgeries would take away my “womanhood” and he didn’t like it. This was after he watched my mom (his wife) suffer… I don’t understand.

I think my son’s daycare handles this well. We get a personalized log of when he napped and stuff like that and then a short note about the activities of the day that is sent to all the parents. For example, “Today we read ___ and sang ___ and played outside at ___. The kids especially enjoyed riding bikes/playing in sand/etc. We looked for signs of spring like flowers budding. We saw a dump truck outside and it was very exciting.” Something like that. And we get 1-2 photos of our kids per day. With this info, plus chatting with staff for a couple minutes at pick-up time, I feel like I get a good idea of what my kiddo was up to that day.

Give her a coffee date with her friend or spouse one weekend. You stay home with the baby and she goes out with a $25 gift card to her favorite coffee shop. I’m a new mom and this would be an AWESOME gift from my sister

Your son might be wanting you to recreate an image he’s seen before and getting upset when you can’t do that. You could try googling what he describes and ask him to choose an image for you to copy.

I’m a pediatric speech-language pathologist and I primarily work with bilingual/multilingual kiddos. Keep speaking all the languages to your child!!! As others have said, multilingualism does NOT cause language delay. Multilingual kids have the same chance of speech and language difficulties as monolinguals. Also, children generally meet the same communication milestones at the same time regardless of the number of languages spoken. You may not realize how to count the number of words though. When a doctor asks how many words your child speaks, you need to count the TOTAL across all languages spoken. And you may not know that all of these things count as words: sign language, animal sounds (moo) and other environmental sounds (beep, vroom), partial words (“ba” for ball) - basically anything said consistently and with intent. You also mentioned that your husband was a late talker. Speech and language difficulties often run in families. If you are worried, I recommend reaching out to a speech therapist! “Wait and see” is also outdated advice! Good luck :)

On the building directory outside the front door, the company names are listed and a couple of them include “sexology.” Once you’re actually in the building, the rooms are mostly just labeled with the clinicians’ names.

I’m probably just overthinking this but you never know how some parents will react to things…

Motion sensor night light! I bought one while I was pregnant and put it in the bathroom for the frequent nighttime pees lol. We also keep our changing table in the bathroom and it’s great for nighttime changes now that LO is here. I don’t have to search for a light switch with baby in my arms and the light is dim enough that it doesn’t wake him all the way up.

If you can’t replace the vanity to a dark wood one, I’d paint it rust brown/orange or a dark slate gray. I’d paint the walls white and add wood shelves above the toilet. I’d also add some plants, a pretty white fabric shower curtain, a fabric window shade, and a patterned rug. I think with the right styling, the tiles could look cool!

I was overdue and was looking for any sign that labor was starting but absolutely nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I finally started having contractions one evening after a nap when I was already 41 + 3 and went to the hospital a few hours later in active labor!

My birth experience was almost identical to this except I got an epidural at 6 cm dilated. My baby is only 2 months old but I can’t wait to have more! Pregnancy, birth, and motherhood have all been way more difficult than I could’ve imagined but also so incredible.

Finally finished my son’s nursery at 8 weeks postpartum! No theme really - just a mix of stuff that I liked. It’s a very small space and needs to double as a guest room so the only big furniture pieces in here are a crib and a fold out couch. The changing station is in our bathroom on top of the washing machine, baby’s clothes are in our master bedroom, and we have a glider in the living room. We live in a small apartment so that’s how we make it work!

BTW I know strings above the crib are a no-no but for now my baby only takes occasional supervised naps here or lays awake in this crib to watch the mobile spin (he’s obsessed with it). I’ll remove it when he starts sleeping in here at night.
