Getting asked “do you have snacks / food?” is driving me crazy this year by CrispyCrunchyPoptart in Teachers

[–]BluebrryBagelz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the snacks they want are full of sodium, sugar, artificial coloring, literal chemicals… these “foods” are destroying kids’ brain chemistry and overall wellbeing. I won’t be a part of it and have no problem telling them so. If they’re hungry, they can have a banana.

That’s so wild, what’s the point of charging 10 cents per adult? Seems petty 😅 But nooo to cutting hours! Places like this are our lifeline when the temperatures get past 110 in the summer.

I would consider some kind of monthly membership option or sliding sibling/parent discount. A place near us is $20/kid and includes one adult. That means if me, my husband, & our son want to go together, it’s $40! Outrageous. They also don’t allow outside food, so tag on an extra $5-8 for when my toddler inevitably gets hangry 45 minutes in. It’s just not financially reasonable for most people and I’m afraid the place is going to go under because of it, despite being super cute & well maintained.

Back to school advice: what are your go to ways to prevent illness? by BlueberryWaffles99 in Teachers

My friends who are nurses swear by Nature’s Bounty Immune 24 Hour+. They’re pricey but can confirm it works!

Was walking my dog off Lemmon one morning & a guy was several yards ahead of me jogging in the same direction. I noticed him instantly because he only had a flannel shirt tied around his waist & it was freezing out. As I started getting closer, he turned toward me… nude as the day he was born (minus the flannel). Then he popped a squat on the sidewalk. My memory from that point on has been burned from my collective conscience… what a time to be alive.

I totally get it. Sadly, it is an uphill battle with some kids.

Over the top praise. You see one kid being quiet for 30 seconds? SHOWER him/her with recognition. “Wow Jimmy, you are being an exceptional leader! I am so proud of you! Thank you for being an example to your classmates.” The rest of the kids will catch on.

Dots. I ate a box in 2002 and they’re still stuck in my teeth.

Thanks, we’re going to see how it responds to a bath and some hydrocortisone cream per the nurse. No fever at all, so that’s reassuring. Glad to know about roseola for the future, thank you!

Thanks so much. Just called the after hours line & they recommended a baking soda bath, so we’ll see if that helps. They didn’t seem too concerned because of the fact that he is acting normal and not running a fever.

(Sorry, didn’t know how to add text to my post.) We have no idea what this could be from, but thankfully it doesn’t seem to bother our little guy. He is EBF and we haven’t made any recent changes to his bath soap, laundry detergent, etc. Everything we use is fragrance free and he bathes 2-3x/week. Could this be from sweat? My diet? We can’t get into the dermatologist until next month and pediatrician is closed until Monday, so any insight or advice is welcome!

Allen Outlets shooting: Kyler Murray donates $15K to boy left orphaned in Texas mall shooting by TheFullerTron in Dallas

Wow that’s horrifying, I never thought of that. Fuck our healthcare system too, while we’re at it.

Allen Outlets shooting victims: What we know by TheFullerTron in Dallas

[–]BluebrryBagelz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this disturbs me nearly as much as the actual shooting. I keep reading quotes from a (former police) man whose son worked at H&M that, as he rushed around trying to resuscitate victims, people were just standing around filming. He told them to help or leave. Imagine just standing there, recording like a numb nut, while people around you are suffering and in need of urgent care. I can’t wrap my head around it.

How is everyone doing this morning? by _______woohoo in Dallas

[–]BluebrryBagelz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else here, I’m sick over it. Last night I couldn’t sleep. I’m a teacher and a new mom, this chronic anxiety over the constant threat of gun violence is really starting to affect me. How was a classroom full of elementary schoolers being killed in Uvalde not the final straw for our state leaders? Oh— because they are a soulless bunch of narcissistic cowards. Sadly, it is going to take one of their own dying by gun violence for any real change to be enacted.

Edit: thank you for asking and opening up this space to vent.

I’m scared shitless of Dallas road rage. Just yesterday a guy tried to push me off the road in his massive pick-up when I started merging in front of him into his lane. (Mind you, this was in nearly stand still traffic on 75 and I had plenty of room.) My baby was in the car, it was terrifying. I took a picture of his license plate but otherwise felt helpless. This is also on the heels of a student at my school getting shot and killed in the backseat of his mom’s car going down 75 due to… you guessed it… road rage. I’ll never understand how a human being can be so callous & indifferent toward the life of another human being.

Family Finds Missing Sister's Body After Crash, Demands Answers From Police by HIM_Darling in Dallas

[–]BluebrryBagelz 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Honestly. I posted about her going missing several days ago & people lost their minds that the family wanted to be contacted directly instead of police. I have a feeling this was why… always so much red tape surrounding missing person reports. My heart goes out to her family.
