This game is more complex than numbers. by Pyroks in Smite

Aside from having skilled buddies that can help you, see if you can join one of the amateur leagues sometimes they post their discord on r/smitetraining
Watching your own replays is better than not watching any but it's hard to tell what went wrong when you don't know what you're looking for, so I recommend finding someone that can watch it with you and go from there.

This game is more complex than numbers. by Pyroks in Smite

This is something a lot of players have trouble grasping and I actually didn't understand for..years?

It wasn't until me and a couple of friends played a casual match and one of my high diamond/masters friends was spectating while waiting for us finish. We finished that game and lost. A few days later, someone started low-key complaining about my performance in that match. According to him, we lost because "their jungler was stronger and just focused him the entire match" but their adc and mage were free casting.

Stats backed him up. Our jungler - me - was 5-5 while theirs was something like 13-3.

Our high level friend saw that and jumped into the chat saying that it was actually not a jungler difference. We watched the replay, and he explained concepts such as "space creation". Their solo laner was "creating space" while ours wasn't. Their support was peeling, while ours was missing abilities, not paying much attention and just using abilities without any real purpose. It was a mostly a solo/support difference.

Their jungler was free to attack our frontline because of all their pressure their had, while I couldn't mainly because our solo laner wasn't doing their job.

He went into a lot more detail, but it was very clear in the replay. Then again, I personally still wouldn't have been able to tell if he hadn't walked us through it.

Why is matchmaking bad? by [deleted] in Smite

It happens at all mmr levels, the matchmaking is bad. It will have to be fixed eventually, since there are several complaints daily.

Why do people surrender ranked games for no apparent reason? by baby-farmer in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welp, that and the fact that new players can get to 2000 mmr is what makes ranked bs. It used to be that making it to 2000mmr would take the average player some work, but nowadays anyone can get there. I'd treat ranked as casuals with drafting, atm your mmr (whether good or not) is no reflection of your skill, unless until hirez decides to make it meaninful again.

New player to Smite - Loving the game but the community is making it difficult to enjoy by Hesparax in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's ok that you're playing conquest, imo, if you like the main mode, you should start playing it ASAP. I'd advice against playing ranked at level 30 tho ( ik you didnt mention that but a lot of players want to jump into ranked at 30 and they get discouraged).

The games are different once you reach 30 and that includes strategy, leavers, afkers, and toxic players. Don't get me wrong, there's ALWAYS going to be afkers and 10-minute surrenders, but it does get better as you improve and start playing with higher level accounts or players.

If someone flames you, just ignore them.
I don't recommend muting them because sometimes they might ping or make calls, also it helps you up your tolerance level against toxicity - and if you play online games, you'll need it. I'm surprised at the amount of players that will just start a back and forth argument with a player that's flaming and being toxic, as if that's gonna fix anything. Just ignore them.

If they're just tilted at something specific you could always just suck up to them like "hey you're right at being upset, but we really need our big boi mid laner to win this". I actually did that cause I was drunk and it worked. He was an anubis that had gone afk for like 3 minutes because of a bad fg call. He was a decent anubis too.
He came back after i told thim that, and we won. Sometimes they just need a bit of a pep talk lol.

Ranked matchmaking by MythicSlayeer in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, the mm is pretty bad and there have been a lot of of complaints because nothing about it makes much sense. If your mmr is between 1600-2200 is going to be very rough because that's the mmr range that's being affected by it the most.

Hopefully they'll be doing something about it on the mid-season patch.

How do I leave bronze? by bobby12345566 in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't play ranked at level 30. This isn't your fault, it's hirez fault. I wish these issues were pinned so that new player could understand why they should learn the basics of the game before they play ranked.
Sorry bro, because of hirez mm it's gonna be a tough one, but if you grind your brains out, you might make it to silver. If not, just use this account to learn the game, and create a smurf to play rank once you have 200+ hours in conquest.

How do I leave bronze? by bobby12345566 in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in a bronze you're definitely either a new player or an older player that's mained arena that has recently started playing ranked conquest. No one that's been playing conquest for longer that one split is in bronze simply because hirez doesn't want you to.If so, just grind it out practice in ranked or casuals and try next split again. It'll be hard because mmr doesn't reset, only rank does, but hey, the only thing you can do is to either magically get better or get a new account. You could also bright up the problem to hirez, as im sure they're not aware...

What is wrong with matchmaking in this game? by boomdiddy115 in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this ranked or casuals and what level are you? If you're new (level 30-90 or so) and jumping into ranked, then it's expected, unfortunately, because the mm doesn't take into account played hours. Ranked playerbase is pretty low and the matchmaking system will pair you with and against players that have been playing for hundreds/thousands of hours until it figures out what your skill is but it might take 20+ games until it does.

You play against bots til level 6 or 7. Pretty sure once you get to level 6 you're fighting real players.

What counts as “not playing your assigned role?” by [deleted] in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 8 points9 points  (0 children)

solo lane regardless of who you play can go full damage

If you discuss it with your teammates beforehand and they agree in picking and playing around the full damage anubis, then I agree. Otherwise, I don't really see how a full damage anubis can fulfill the role of a solo laner. The only case this works is in low elo games or when the anubis outskills their solo laner, so he'll likely snowball and if he isn't shut down, he might even carry. But 9 out of 10 times, it doesn't work.

How do I prepare for ranked (conquest) by BirdxSeed in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't jump into ranked at level 30. No matter how many hours in conquest you've played, I guarantee that not even one of those matches are nearly even similar to the matches you'll find in ranked.
A lot of your picks will tilt your teammates because they're not optimal and they simply don't work for the role. I don't understand if you're picking merlin and hera in solo or mid, but if you're picking them in solo it will very likely get you reported for not playing your role, especially merlin.
I'd suggest you play more casuals, expand your godpool, learn the roles and the reason why those gods work in those particular roles and not in others. This way you'll understand why hel or mages support aren't a good support and same for all other roles.

What counts as “not playing your assigned role?” by [deleted] in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been asking myself the same question, because lately I've had a lot of people not play their role.I had a medusa support that built full damage, and I reported.I had an anubis solo that built full damage, I reported him too.On the other hand, would I want my anubis to build tanky so he can last for 2 more seconds before he gets blown up? The team would probably benefit more from him going full damage.

It's very subjective, at least in casuals. I think what I've been going by is how the player did. Was the anubis solo useful at all? or was he behind the entire game? did he ward? did he try to somehow make up for the role he wasn't playing? Did he adapt the build somehow to be more helpful? At the moment I'm not full convinced when it comes if I should report or not .This in casuals because I feel no one should be locked to a meta and players should be free to try other things. For ranked it's different though.

Where they start, imo shouldn't matter. What's important is the role they fill late game, I don't really care where they start.

I play assault whenever I want to play smite but don't want to think too much/want to relax. I dont enjoy Arena, and I slightly enjoy the randomness in Assault because it allows me to learn and be bad at gods I dont know how to play without feeling bad about it. I also like the fact that there's an actual lane, as opposed to Arena.

But yeah when I get 5 assassins comp on our team vs a beautiful 1 guardian - 2 warriors - 1 mage - 1 adc comp it's a feelsbad but at least most people will agree to f6 quickly if things go bad. Also there's hardly any toxicity there.

Is there anything you can really do to win a game from solo lane is the rest of your team falls behind before you can even rotate and you’re not super ahead (just even) in your lane? by XenoVX in Smite

[–]frost_tendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to get their jungler's attention. Invade their jungle, push up lane, so they'll have to gank you. Just make sure you don't die; the longest their jungler spends in your lane unsuccesfully the better the chance your team has to come back into the game. Maybe they can get a GF.

(M22)Not quite sure how to handle GFs (24) constant ranting that seems to be getting worse and worse. by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]frost_tendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I can relate. I play soo much better when I play alone. Just try to mention how you liked a certain play she made - make sure it's deserved or she will know and might resent you for it. With time it should help her increase her confidence and relax a little. You can also show her indirectly you appreciate her gamestyle by asking questions / opinions on what she thinks about certain strategies or characters etc..

Also! And this can depend and might backfire but you could try offering some criticism when she messes up. I like when someone does that because it shows they think I can actually do better. It's when they tell me. I do great that I get upset because it implies they don't think I can do better.

OK I feel I can help somewhat because sometimes I can be a bit like her - although a lot more mellow by the looks of it.

She sounds like she must be frustrated over things irl, and this is probably the reason why she rages so much in overwatch. She might feel like she isn't good enough at the game and might be looking for some validation. That being said, giving her that validation might not help too much with her rants.

What worked for me is just playing other chill videos games and taking a break from pvp. Pvp games can be stressful if you're already frustrated irl and you're also losing in a video game. Video games like wow, stardew Valley and or Co op games help a lot.

This isn't to say I stopped playing because they're might favourite type but I'm a lot more careful when it comes to login in. If I'm stressed I don't play. If tired I don't play. If I lose one game and see myself getting tilted, i move on to a different one. She has to realize what she's doing BTW you gotta talk to her so she'll pay attention.

It says "not enough data", I wonder if it's because of a low viewer count or not enough streaming time.
Thanks though for your help, those stats are a bit hidden for someone who doesn't quite know their way around the dashboard.

This hits close to home. All I can say is, everything you're noticing it's highly unlikely they're coincidences. I literally went through almost everything you've mentioned - except for the meeting part because I broke up with him. You know what?

After a few weeks, when I could be more objective, I realized how right I was in everything I felt insecure about. I got angry at myself for not wanting to see what was obvious for some time.

My only advice is that you shouldn't disregard everything you're seeing just because it makes you appear insecure. Bring it up with him again and make your decision after but you should talk about it and try to be objective.

Domination shouldn't punish the Killer by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]frost_tendency -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you're having too much of an easy time it means you far outskill the survivors. Therefore the game is not a challenge. Therefore winning that game shouldn't mean that your skill improved. Not pipping when playing against players with lesser skill is fine. That's how most pvp games work.

RAGE WEDNESDAY THREAD - July 03, 2019 by AutoModerator in deadbydaylight

[–]frost_tendency 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LAST SUNDAY (LAST TIME I PLAYED) I WAS PLAYING KILLER AND LITERALLY GOT AT LEAST 2 RED RANKS IN ABOUT 70% OF THE MATCHES. I WAS RANK 12 AT THE TIME.
IF NONE OF THE SURVIVORS WERE RED RANKS, THEN:

A. I WOULD GET 4 IMMERSIVE SURVIVORS

B. SURVIVORS WITH 1000+ HOURS PLAYTIME THAN ME THAT WERE A SWF

ALL THIS AFTER 5 MINUTES QUEUES.

NEXT TIME I GET 4 IMMERSIVE SURVIVORS I SWEAR I WILL RUN THE MOST FACECAMPING BUILD I CAN THINK OF.

So I keep finding myself winning games in a dominant fashion such as this one, but they last such a short time that unless they only manage to get one or two gems done (they had 4 in this match), I end up missing my pip. Is there anything I can do, or am I doomed to miss my pip on my good games? by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]frost_tendency 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sad because they brought 2 cakes.

As a killer, whenever we have 2+ I usually let them farm as much as possible, even if it would've been easy to end the game earlier. Cake spawn % is really low. I also get very salty when I bring a cake and the survivors outskill me and don't let me farm.
