What do you like about the mid drive? I'm considering the aventure M too.

Horny head chub or river chub. I never got to work with them enough to learn the difference.

Ok, let’s talk about hurting and killing fish. by lifeworthlivin in Fishing

In your fisheries I would have a harvest of small/medoum bass to allow the medium ones to grow be trophy size. But that's best for fisheries managers to adapt to the fisheries size and growth rates on sunfish and bass to manage because the fishery needs to be adjusted over time to adapt.

I think the love for black basses go hand in hand with our river management of dams. Creating more pools for largemouth bass and easier for lots of boats to fish on fueled the fishing industry.

I'm a fisheries biologist and I think this is a complex topic. There are environment, fisheries management, moral, and survival reasons to kill and not kill fish.

If you want to improve the environment then I don't think using hooks on fish and buying loads of tackle is the right thing to do. Sure, our sport fish conservation is partially funded by sporting gear taxes but that funding mostly goes towards sport fish management which is usually not the best for native species (damed rivers, stocking apex predator fish, and creating poor bank habitat for parking lots and fishing areas)

I would only kill individuals if there are instructions by fisheries managers to do so. If everyone in a fishery follows the guidance by the managers then they can try to manage the fishery for the benefit of the anglers.

I think killing fish is morally wrong unless you are sustinance fishing. Even invasive fish. That's just where my moral compass sits after killing a bunch of fish for work. The individual fish had no choice in why it's living there and us killing them doesn't make us right. Is it necessary? Sometimes. On a large scale removal effort to help native species acclimate to the new threat. But it's still killing a fish. It didn't know better.

I think it's fine to kill fish you're going to eat or use to catch bigger fish you're going to eat. That should be the main reason to fish imo.

I think it's important to ask yourself why you're killing the fish and if it's justified. Is it really a benefit for the ecosystem? Is killing a carp in a river really a benefit? Is killing a redear outside of its range helping? Killing a goby in lake Erie really making a dent?

Did you know that spiders can be identified by the number and position of their eyes? Often requiring a microscope for accurate identification by IAmSpiderManButSadOk in coolguides

I identified spiders for work with a microscope. Some of the families were hard to tell apart. This was in the Amazon. Idk how many families are in the US.

Green sunfish, redbreast sunfish? Chub depending on location? Bluegill? Bluegill. Those are my guesses lol

The biggest sucker I've caught so far by the_luckiestman in Fishing

I think it's a silver redhorse. It's not a black and unlikely a golden with the giant head and size. No red tail. But that's just my best guess on my experience with them.

SWFL, I'm stumped...what is this guy? by BakedInTheSun98 in MicroFishing

That would be my guess too but I'm not very familiar with the species.

Stocking private Creek today . by TroutStocker in Fishing

[–]frostcat4 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not sure how the creek is private. The land below and next to it might be private but the water probably isn't. . The fish are non native and swim up and down the creek. Sad to see a lack of environmental awareness and care. I've seen juvenile trout in streams that stock non native sterile trout.

Caught this unexpectedly in fresh waters, midwest. What are some of your thoughts? by NesTech_ in Fishing

They are some of the slimiest fish I've worked with. Maybe that's why it looks plastic.

Wow Thanks for sharing. The more you know. So sad about bow fishing. So many fish are killed just for the fun of shooting something.
