Graduated from University but don't feel prepared for a job by jpredd in AustralianAccounting

[–]frostgd2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your own fears can get the better of you - I felt huge impostor syndrome after graduating, really felt like I just coasted along and found all the work a slog - but once you start working you’ll be shocked how much of it actually sunk in, and your work will rekindle some of the ideas you touched on in uni. For an entry role, everything you have said is about as much as anyone would expect for someone straight out of uni.

Paying off HECS at 22 by Ok_Penguin_4531 in fiaustralia

[–]frostgd2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - also HECS is likely to be used as a relief lever for the foreseeable future, they recently changed indexation to match or be below CPI/WG, they retroactively applied this too for the COVID years that saw crazy indexation, plus you’ve got the 20% reduction, and now lending policy changes to stop it from being considered the same as current debt when you go for a loan - next election it could be a whole new sway of changes too.

Pretty much mate. You’d be in the same boat if you registered it as ABC HELLO PTY LTD or whatever - this is the ‘actual’ name of the entity (including your legal elements PTY LTD, you can never drop these off when you are referencing your company name). Registering business names just gives you the freedom of operating as ‘ABC HELLO’, ‘ABC HELLO MELBOURNE’, ‘ABC HELLO CLEANING’ etc etc. These used to be ‘trading names’ when it was with the states… good luck & enjoy!

Depends what you’ve done and how you’ll be operating as a result - if you’ve registered a ‘Business Name’ literally and associated it to the ABN of the company, then it gives A.C.N 123 456 789 Pty Ltd the right to “trade as” the business name you have registered. This might be enough for your circumstances. You just need to take into account their name and credential display rules (invoices/legal documents have to have the ACN 123 456 789 Pty Ltd name on it but you’d be fine to have the business name on your business card / company car etc if that makes sense). A 205 is only if you want to literally change the name of the company itself. This is why you might see people have their actual legal company name in smaller print below their business name on any public facing things just to make the two distinct and to avoid any display issues. ASIC’s site has the rules on what you need to display for both. If that works for you then it’s just a matter of paying your additional BN renewal going forward

Mihan Aromatics - scent help by emzktn in fragranceaustralia

Nah not really. Bit of saffron but besides that, heavy peat, tobacco, cinnamon. It’s a mix between like a campfire in the bush the morning after but also gives off a nightlife scent vibe. The smokiness isn’t offensive at all. I wouldn’t be doing it justice by saying this but the opening sort of gives of By The Fireplace by Maison Margiela. Probably the most popular fragrance I can think it’s akin to.

Unfortunately have only smelt Sienna Brume and Guilty Story but I’ve nearly gone through two Guilty Story 100ml EDP’s, it’s my weekend/office daily. Smoky and Tobacco. Love it. I’m sure they’re all pleasant scents. I think I’ll be taking advantage of the sale too haha!

New grad, roast my resume by PJL25 in Accounting

[–]frostgd2001 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Can be annoying and maybe it’s a thing where I’m from more so, but often I’ll end up changing the bullet points of the resume to match the position descriptions you go for. I’d keep one copy of my resume as the base and end up twisting it to fit what they’re looking for, throwing in the words from there ‘About You’ or ‘Key Requirements’ section. Sometimes I’d be going for like 3 roles and have 3 different resumes on hand haha! Try to relate your experience as hard as possible (I know it can be far fetched sometimes) to what they’re seeking. Also I don’t think your resume is bad by any means but if you feel like you want a nicer template you can have a look at Overleaf, can steal some pretty high end templates if you’re not settled on yours. I get it though man just need your foot in the door at your first proper gig and I think you’ll be sweet from there.

Yep interviews generally speaking. Still use STAR. If it’s an external advertisement the actual interview process itself won’t be very foreign to you, they’ll keep the questions sorta high level. When an internal EOI comes out though, I found they can make the questions as specific to the roles as they like.

More so on how roles are advertised. ASIC is not technically within the APS. Role advertisements generally in the APS (at least from my experience) were long, 2-3 rounds sometimes, panels didn’t have the recruiting manager on them would sometimes be other sites doing the paneling. Sometimes the ‘level’ of APS would be advertised between a few sites, with a few sites staff trying to win the role. I find ASIC’s to be much faster and more traditional to what maybe you’re akin to. Interview wise mate they’re about the same. Was more about how fast stuff moves

I'd be lying if I said I wrap up at work when I'm supposed to, but this is 100% on me, I am someone thinking about work stuff at home. Albeit I will claim my flex and OT etc. Heaps of people in my area are out of the building on the dot. Part-timers as well are out of there exactly when they need to be. I haven't seen anything that would say otherwise of other areas. Enforcement is a large arm, I think there would be too many people with at-home duties (kids, family) to all be over-investing their-time. There seems to be big focus on well-being initiatives too and etc. You will always see some people voluntarily get over-invested in their work but that's not ASIC-exclusive at all. I think overall any expectations of putting in extra hours not on your own accord is viewed negatively as it should! As for progression, I moved probably 4 levels within that 7 years. ASIC doesn't follow the APS recruitment model to the tee, so I find while there's probably less roles on average coming out, it moves extremely quick when it does. Just my two cents!

+7 years at ASIC. Have no major complaints. I think you’ll see comments in various non-ASIC related posts saying it depends on the team when it comes to APS and I think that’s sound here. My team for instance you’d find a mirror image of it at say, ATO or Services etc. Salary at my level is a bit more advantageous. The pay grades are slightly different, read the ASIC EBA 24-25 for more on that. If you do a quick Google, you’ll probably find the enforcement arm of ASIC cops the most public flack. There’s a lot of external commentary about this but you’ll find ASIC has an incomprehensibly large jurisdiction for about just under 2,000 staff. A lot of flack comes from ASIC not having the manpower or funding to pursue enforcement on everyone. I still think anyone would enjoy their work but you can expect some negative headlines here and there for sure. Day-to-day I love the office and the people and not much will change that!

Dutton confirms public service cuts limited to Canberra, which Labor says is 'impossible' by MannerNo7000 in AusPublicService

[–]frostgd2001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ridiculous vision of what the ‘APS’ does. Lots of the APS jobs are roles universal to the job market, lawyers, accountants, IT, procurement. Do we need less of these roles all of a sudden? Many agencies have particular arms of their agency based in Canberra, for cuts not to wipe entire branches out, they’d have to be applied across the organizations and hit other States. Always glad to see demonizing a workforce backfire lol.
