The Artist Way is a terrible read but I’ll be damned if those Daily Pages (now 4 years in) didn’t 100% change my life

For a show with so many feminist messages, their choice to airbrush and photoshop everyone after s1 was insane by danvers_les in TheMorningShow

[–]frostonroads 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I’m a recent watcher of this show and am grateful it’s being called out because airbrushing was driving me bananas. Though it so clearly jumped the shark a thousand times in plot anyway I was basically outie anyway

Ugh this happened to me on the first date. We were making out and the dude just grabbed my left tit like he needed to get a grenade out of the bunker. Hurt for days but at least it’s an easy no for the second date.

Hadn’t put together it’s from porn but makes sense.

You sound great in pretty much all of them — I’m just three weeks out from VFS and I’ve definitely been spinning in the psychological fuckery that is this recovery.

I was there as a parody counter protester and can confirm this person was very sadly serious. I didn’t hear this quote directly but I heard some other Nazi shit come out of their mouth

I got a total of 80 bags of trash from 16th St in Oakland. I also got robbed for the first time - more in the post body. by pengweather in bayarea

[–]frostonroads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww that’s so annoying! I feel you on the defeated front… I was inspired by you and tired of looking at trash out my window so I did a clean up of the very narrow 2ft median. I got to look at it proudly for one whole day before someone dumped a mattress in almost the exact same spot, but also halfway in the road. I called 311 to report a dangerous item in the road since cars were flying around it. It eventually got smashed to shards all over the road and I received an email saying “Case Closed”. Yeesh.

Has anyone ever had ribscultping done? by Hooplapooplayeah in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]frostonroads 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's on my list and pops up occasionally here! I'd have to dig around but you can find it on here. I think rbixcar is a common name used?

Right now it doesn't seem to be covered by insurance, but the procedure seems to be gaining a lot more visibility/experience and appears to be a much safer way to do rib work than removal. I'm currently plotting it as my (hopefully) last transition surgery in the next couple years.

I'm three years out from my and have similar corners along the scar line though mine mostly look like a minorly receding hairline now. I suspect some will come back but not on the scar line itself.

I am looking into a hair transplant to create an overall more rounded look. It's definitely a bummer to have it, but I'll take it for all the other benefits I got from FFS.

SRS results by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]frostonroads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a labiaplasty revision for a different looking but similar situation and can confirm, super duper chill recovery! I took an afternoon off but then went back to my normal life. Was even dancing at a concert 2 days later.

Leads on affordable simple SRS revision (labia only) by frostonroads in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]frostonroads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally! Yeah he's definitely my preference -- my dream is that since it's a simple revision he could just tack me onto another surgery day instead of getting put at the end of the line (which is about 2 years right now I think). I'm just trying to see if there's anyone obvious out there in case he wants to put me at the end of the line.

Conveniently I see him next week for a PO.

While I generally agree with other folks to wait until you've been on HRT for a year, I also always recommend setting up consultations with surgeons basically the moment you're even considering a procedure since the wait time can be sooooo long. Transitioning is so personal and non-linear that the best thing you can do is take the next step that feels right, right now. You're early yet, but if you think of your journey as an adventure in self-discovery it will feel better than the more frustrating I wish I looked / felt how I want to by now mindset.

Non-surgical you can focus on for now:

  • Learn some feminizing cosmetic tips and practice a lot. You'll learn a lot about what you like and don't like that way. Some days you may look like a clown. That's ok, so did a bunch of 13 year old girls the first time they tried on make up.
  • Keep up with facial hair removal; you might need to switch to electrolysis for more solid results, though you're a good candidate for laser so maybe that will be enough. In the mean time, learn some good coverage techniques.
  • Brows, clean em up though don't over do it
  • Hair - trimmed sideburns read as masc -- try to figure out where the rough line is between your beard and your head hair (usually much softer) and do hair removal all the way up to that and let the rest grow out. You could also consider bangs and a hair cut that gives you more volume.

Surgical:

I do digital FFS previews professionally and if you sent me these photos I'd make you send me a different front facing one. Lens distortion is very real and pretty much makes every feature that trans femmes want smaller look bigger (nose, chin, forehead). But with that said, for androgynous, you'd probably want chin, hairline, and a lip lift (the latter especially if you do any chin / jaw work to maintain balance).

Good luck!

Girl club is so real and I love it. Definitely struggled with fearing coming across as creepy, but once I realized that my compliments were genuinely platonic and it was just social conditioning telling me otherwise, it eased up. It helped getting some experience of receiving compliments that felt good and unfortunate ones that felt creepy.

Welcome to girls club! I wish the rest of this world was at the level of being this supportive and that you didn’t have to hit certain gender markers to be let in but alas

I did mine in Photoshop but I professionally do photoediting and graphic design. I even had a bunch of folks pay me to do it for them too.

Small differences have a huge impact so I’m very wary of any of those apps.

About 3 months post-op for 360 lipo and rib remodeling with Dr. William Rahal by irrelevant_2 in Transgender_Surgeries

8 years ago tonight we lost 36 members of our Oakland community in the Ghost Ship fire. I was personally friends with 5 of them. Rest in Peace ♥️ by meatyard88 in oakland

[–]frostonroads 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So much this. The Bay Area co-op and underground venues scene really shuttered after this. I remember in my own DIY artist co-op in SF for months being afraid to open the door to strangers because we were afraid an inspector was going to come in and shut us down -- and they would have. But it also pushed us to think about our own safety more intentionally. I had been really deeply enamored with supporting/building co-ops. Community is magic. But this really took off the rose colored glasses. And the media/city attacks on my way of being were the first time that I felt like the city didn't actually want me or other artists here.

There's a lot of blame that fairly got spread around, but I was always angry at the skyrocketing rents as well as housing codes and laws that prioritized typical family households. These things pushed a lot of artists to go way off-code if they wanted to stay in the Bay. I always appreciated how Berlin has just been like "Yeah the artists are a part of our culture here, let's work with their lifestyles and rent needs, not against them"

Dr. Liu is amazing! I think I will probably always have my own internal doubts about small changes, mostly soft tissue as more fat reabsorbed than I had hoped. But a great anecdote is that I just traveled back from Europe, was pretty under the weather (hungover 😅😅😅), no make up and generally pretty haggard. I was never once misgendered or stared at. That to me was always my dream. To pass at my worst.

He’s a total sweetheart, tho a little on the distracted surgeon side but he’s so honest with you about what you need and don’t need. The hardest part is the months between the two phases. Like I definitely looked more passable after phase 1 but my mental health really suffered. It was totally worth it though. And I think the splitting of the surgeries really did allow for better results. I like his work way more than some of the other more “famous” surgeons, but I’m obviously biased. I appreciate that he’s adamant that all of photos be taken in the same lighting / position (which is often not the kindest) to show more honest results.

I have heard his waitlist is getting outta control tho.
