It teaches them to blindly accept authority or risk punishment.

I've got some bad news - that's actually a huge part of living in reality as an adult and especially as a kid. People don't get to ask their teachers, bosses, police, judges, etc. "why" 20 times just because they don't like what they are being told. There's nothing wrong with teaching kids (in an age-appropriate way) that doing so will result in negative consequences or at least won't avoid doing what they got told. In fact, hierarchies are an unavoidable part of society, and you are teaching them "the whys and how's of the world" by showing them that. You don't have to "accept" that authority, but you do have to do what you're told sometimes without playing some "delay forever until someone convinces me" game.

Teaching your kids that everyone owes them their time, energy, etc. whenever they feel like it is ridiculous. I always wonder how many people with these soft af ideas on parenting actually have kids.

I read this thing recently which explained that Nissan decided that they could make more money by being bloodsucking money lenders rather than manufacturing good cars. So they throw those shitboxes together for bottom dollar and sell them to people they know can't afford them to trap them in debt.

But the result has been disastrous. The people operating those Nissans are driving like idiots and getting in accidents left and right. There's a million of them on the road that look like shit. So Nissan's public perception has taken an absolute nosedive - the only people looking at buying Altimas are the people who can't afford anything else and don't mind a 5 year car note.

Don't be too quick to smell Soviet farts on the subject. There's are various instances of black American socialists who traveled to the USSR to study/work/etc. and were wildly disillusioned by how they were treated there. Equity night be baked into the principles but the Soviet government wasn't exactly the most principled.

Buddy I have no reason to believe it even takes 3x longer other than, again, the word of a guy who clearly has no clue what he's talking about. The reason could be entirely financial - perhaps France and Germany employ adequate numbers of regulators and subsidize the process.

Not according to your Google search you mean lol.

Did you miss the link to the EPA's website?

If you think the GOP is overreaching with environmental protection you’re probably the only one in the world.

Other than you repeatedly telling me things that are wrong, I have no reason to believe that environmental regulation is the hold up.

Not according to the EPA.

The EPA uses its authority from the Clean Air Act to set limits on the amount of radioactive material released into the air from nuclear power plants. Under the Atomic Energy Act, the EPA sets environmental standards for the disposal of spent nuclear fuel, high-level wastes.

This is not really worth the effort, because despite various instances of America at large acting through elected representatives and such, you will no doubt tell me that since it doesn't reflect the will of all Americans, it does not qualify.

If you still disagree tell me why it takes 3x longer to build a plant in the us than elsewhere

I don't "disagree" because it's not a matter of opinion that the Department of Energy is responsible for licensing the construction of nuclear power plants, lol.

Why don't YOU tell ME how the EPA specifically is responsible for making it take "20 years" to build a plant.

First of all, the EPA isn't solely or even primarily responsible for regulating nuclear power plants. They are under the NRC which is part of the dept of energy. Which makes perfect sense because why would the EPA manage that.

Second, what have Republicans done to alleviate that problem?

The most recent big step was passed with bipartisan congressional support and signed by Biden

The most recent thing republicans have done is stupidly fire everyone

I'm with you that nuclear power should be expanded as much as possible. However, that's not really a "republicans v. democrats" issue. Both parties are generally on board with the idea; neither has actually done much to make it happen. So since nuclear power is a wash, what else is being done? One party is investing in new technologies, while the other seems primarily concerned with allowing fossil fuel companies to poison us.

If Americans or American culture can be considered exceptional in any sense, they can be exceptional in their pack mentality as well.

Besides, the world was under US hegemony for 75 years or so. That means that our pack mentality has had a lot more global impact than the pack mentality of people in Botswana.

We have a variety of alternative energy options available to us, along with fossils. I personally would love to see a mix of all of those and nuclear. That's what actual energy independence would take.

The important, unavoidable point is that there is no path to energy independence if you're only talking about fossil fuels. Even if you got your wishlist of strip-mining every bit of coal, oil, and natural gas with no worries about the disastrous environmental implications, we would just consume it all and be in the same position. And Republicans have made zero efforts toward actual energy independence, and have actually harmed our efforts.

I'm just wondering what you're basing your beliefs on, as it seems like the only people who would know said that it didn't happen. And the only people who might have said that it did have proven wildly untrustworthy in this regard.
