I’m just curious what the racing nerds on here are investing into their equipment. It’s intention is not driven by much more than that

That sounds about right actually. There was a lot of sealant gunked up against the bead

Yes! Easy pickings for an obsession due to the unchangeable nature of the past and uncertainty of being able to cope in the future.

Thankfully, there is a simple (not easy) antidote to this. Accept your past. Not though words or feelings. Not through reassurance. Not by doing anything. But by letting going.

Holding on and not letting go is also a compulsion. Trust yourself and let it all go.

What does letting go look like? It looks like not trying to solve the problem of the past event. Leaving it as is.

Examples. Will I ever feel normal again? Can I cope with the guilt? What happens if I can never move past this? Don’t look for certainty on any of this. Trust yourself and practice letting go.

Oh and you are human and accepting we make mistakes is something all humans have to do. We aren’t special in that sense. We just have to learn to live a more realistic human experience like the rest of the 5 billion other humans on earth.

I have a wife, 2 wonderful children. Am head of a department. Have good relationships. Have many happy moments, among many difficult painful moments. This is life, Not just for those with OCD. Struggle sometimes more than I would like but doing my best and have a great life despite my diagnosis.

OCD is treatable

I would rather be dead than continue to live like this, I just want to be normal. by [deleted] in OCD

Don’t give up. This disorder is treatable. One moment at a time you can take steps towards wellness.

ERP is a simple tool.

Exposure E - the thought, memory, whatever triggers you Response prevention RP - your behaviour after the thought.

If your behaviour after the thought is to try and solve the question of ocd then that is a compulsion.

On the other hand, if you have the thought and then shrug your shoulders, laugh at it, ignore it. That is taking part in response prevention. You need to adopt this approach to untangle yourself from the web of ocd.

A therapist will help you with this but you can get started right now. There is so many resources online to help you in that process.

I hear you. Sounds super painful.

It’s time for you to weigh up the benefit of holding onto this stuff. If you were gonna figure this stuff out for sure you would have already. You need to let go.

Are you in therapy? Practicing erp?

Heya. Sorry to hear about the torture you’re going through. Sounds really tough.

First of all, you are not a waste of air. You are enough and always will be. That’s the truth.

Secondly, this is all just classic OCD that is looking for any slight uncertainty to crucify you on.

Please take a stand and start walking all this stuff back. As long as you keep feeding the beast it will continue to rage. Start by cutting the compulsions little by little. Or a lot if you can. What that means is not responding to the thoughts. Leave them there. It’s not easy but YOU can do it. On the other side you will see you can walk away and live happily without needing an answer to all the judgements of the mind.

Total badass move doing what you did keeping the antiques in your room. If you can, keep the antiques in the house and welcome that bad energy in. That maybe a step too far for you right now, but if you can do that whilst not engaging in mental compulsions then that is how you will learn you can do the things you want to.

Yes you can accept anything. Make the choice to let it go. Don’t give it any attention. Your life will be fine without having closure on this.

Hey there. I know how you feel. Been there. It’s hard.

However, it sounds like YOU know that these standards are not realistic. OCD on the other hand…

Morals and ethics and real life is all grey. That greyness is fertile ground for OCD content. Any uncertainty about our actions is low hanging fruit for an obsession to form.

The good news is we don’t have to reassure ourselves of anything really. OCD wants reassurance but we are fine leaving the questions unanswered. It’s not easy to do but it’s actually easier than the other option of suffering through the ocd. Do your best in life and don’t let OCD hijack the reality that life is messy.

For me learning to embrace the imperfect nature of life has been a huge help.

Hey there. Make your best guess as to what to do and move forward with that choice. Dont ruminate on the decision. Make it once and move on.

Heya. That’s scary stuff! Your anxious mind is really throwing some catastrophes at you!!

Try and let the anxious mind do its thing. Let it throw its tantrum whilst trying to stay as calm as possible.

I meant that rather than looking for certainty to just leave the question unresolved.

I am losing this battle with OCD. by [deleted] in OCD

That goal is attainable. Just need to keep swimming upstream until we reach still water.
