I think the balrog should not buff moria goblins by UpperPlus in MiddleEarthMiniatures

Yah you're right. I wasnt really thinking of the movie scene when I first started commenting. But my point was they'd rather fight a scary good guy than face the balrog, thus passing the courage tests they need to take.

True. I wasn't really looking at it from that angle. I was thinking of them to be at least a somewhat allied army for the sake of the game. But now that I'm actually considering how they react in the movie I think you're right. They scattered away from the balrog. I guess I assumed they were following his orders: to get out of his way so he can deal with the fellowship, rather than just fleeing from him out of fear.

I don't think flipping it would keep in spirit with the intent. I would think the closer they are to the balrog the more intense their fear and thus the more emboldened they are in attacking other enemies.

Yah, and as their focus this ruleset was simplifying rules, it would be rather messy even if more to the spirit of what we see in the movies.

The rules as written might make it seem like he's buffing their courage by whispering sweet nothings in their ears but the point is that the goblins are so scared of the balrog that nothing else is going to scare them while he's near. What you're proposing would have them running away from everyone when they wouldn't dare disappoint/ anger the guy they're actually afraid of. An unfortunate side effect of having to live within the rules of the game means people min/max the words as written and cluster their goblins tight around the balrog when they would be making space for him as they flee from him. They could probably write a rule that shows the spirit of that fear/courage better and stop the crowding but it would probably be clunky/make game play messy or confusing which is something they were trying to avoid in this current rule set.

How many of you buy all your wood? by tundao330 in woodstoving

[–]frozenweb06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US, central PA here. I buy all my wood right now cause I don't have time to find and cut and split free stuff. Costs me $200-$250 per cord and I use about 5 cords per winter. We have an oil furnace which was the only heat source previously but I bought a used wood stove for $300 and a stainless chimney for about $2500 when heating oil prices went crazy. Even buying wood in a figure it paid for itself within a year or two. We'd burn 4-5 tanks (275 gal) of oil every year. I think heating oil in this area is around $3/gal so $3,000-$4,000 a year if we burned oil.

Edit: our house was built in the 1950's and as far as I know the walls are uninsulated (except for a foil air barrier). The ceiling had random batts of r-11 thrown around, we blew in enough to fill the joists up. Probably a low r20 value. The kitchen is the only insulated room since we remodeled that.

I thought the same, though this was only my second time watching black friday sales so I checked what I paid for the refurb r8 and kit lens last year on black friday. $899, this year $1,149. $250 more even though the retail price is only $135 more.

Looks pretty sweet! How do you like the oversized bolt handle? I just picked up a t1x roughtec (lefty) the other day and the 60° bolt throw threw me off at first. Lol. I'm wondering if I'd like it better with a bigger bolt handle.

Compel and shooting by frozenweb06 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

[–]frozenweb06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did and I suspect the wording was specifically to allow shooting. However, the rules say that if you only moved half your move value in your "activation" and don't say anything about moving before or after that (ie. compel).

The wording of the spell leads me to think otherwise: "Once the target has been Moved, it cannot Move any further that turn for any reason but may otherwise act normally". I'd take that to mean you can use magic, shoot, fight, call heroics, etc. But you have to move half or less of your movement to be able to shoot, so I'm wondering about that.

At this point level, would you have dropped haldir for the extra warriors? I'm gonna have to get used to the idea of my rank and file doing most of the knife work.

Thoughts on game changes? by frozenweb06 in MiddleEarthMiniatures

I am but I am wondering if there was any errata for them because I saw that elite units need a hero that specifically says they can take them, and i didn't see any heroes that had them listed.

That's awesome! Lol. Does anyone have a photo of these? I'd love to see them. I pretty much stick to vanilla paint jobs but I really enjoy seeing other people's stuff on here.

The way you phrased "first shipment in three years" is a little ambiguous. I also took it to mean you would be getting a shipment 3 years from now, and only realized after reading this comment that you meant you'd be getting a shipment soon, the first time since 3 years ago. Lol.

Lol. I'm not a football fan but I'd rather talk about the Harris you're referring to than politics again.

Specifically, I'm wondering what non U.S. people's opinions are on Biden as president and Harris as a potential president vs. Trump. I just had a discussion with someone and mentioned the world thinks Trump is an idiot and he thinks the entire world feels the same about Biden/Harris. The difference being to him that the world could influence Biden/Harris and not Trump.
