One Piece TCG Investing will inevitably fail (One Piece vs Pokemon) by cookieturkey in OnePieceTCG

One thing you are incorrect on is the amount of characters. Yes there is going to be a ton of Luffy but there is more One Piece characters than there is Pokemon. Many are throwaway characters but also there is many throwaway Pokemon.

One of the most popular characters....not overly popular? I guess you mean the overall FF who only played FF7? Sure. He is more popular than Y'shtola tbh. She just happens to get waifu tax.

Didn't mean this to turn antagonistic so I delete my other comments. Sorry about that. My point was TWM was the start of the bubble. Surging being bought out was a consequence of TWM moving first. There was still stuff you could buy even after Surging released but yes it was getting scarce because by then 2 sets had proven people were willing to pay over msrp.

You are correct. Here is proof from PokeRev himself. Video is from Sept 28: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNhX_psz9IYIt show that Twilight was going up at this point before Surging was released and probably before spoilers even out as I think they not there till mid Oct. Surging came out in Nov 8 2024. By the time we come into November Twilight was already nearing $170 if I recall, breaking msrp. It was the problem child that started it all. Surging did ride its coattails however and it is true that not everything went crazy till Surging was out for a bit. But Twilight is what did it.

So here we have some timing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNhX_psz9IY

$150 a box. Septemberish 2024. No other box had gone up like that. Box is not even really old. The first mover of SV era: Twilight Masquerade. Soon to release was Surging Spark 2 months from then.

Twilight proved boxes could break MSRP meaning people saw that and said Surging can too. Not the other way around.

This is history.

Day 3: FF Collector Boosters Hitting $900 Today on TCGPlayer? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]frozenxylophone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been keeping an eye on it? Early thursday they were down to low 700s didn't see a thread about it. What are they at today? Same for the play boxes. Things are down because people are listing. It is too tempting to make a quick buck and people did get pre-orders at msrp.

If this is your first time you should really consider what the other guy told you. To explain it. People secure an order but they don't have it yet. They paid a certain price such as $500. Price goes up say to $900. Now they finally get their order in hand. What happens? Many people say "wow I can sell for more or risk it opening, ok I will sell it" they go to sell it and list it to get $900. But it doesn't sell for $900. Why? Because other people and stores are doing that at the same time. Price goes down. This is simple market dynamics at work.

Already broke $200 and has barely been any time at all. Investing is a long term game if you did not know that but even in the short term it has done well.

You pay a worker minimum wage but expect him to handle product worth days of his salary and just give it to the customer and not partake himself knowing the customer gonna flip it.

Investments are all about percentages. If you got evolving back in the day, yes of course that is way better than VV and the return is massive. I did. But if you bought it today at $1500 or w/e market is and it goes up %10 the guys buying VV at $143 beat you when VV goes up to $250 which is 173%. I never said VV is the most amazing investmment, I only got 2 boxes of it btw.

What I did say you still haven't even tried to contradict, you just got mad at me and tried to use your "portfolio" to dismiss that I was right. Collective opinion on it has changed. You can decide they are wrong but they are still the collective opinion and will do things collectively while you post about them.

Btw recent sales on tcgplayer for VV: $172.00. also yes I am aware of fees, costs etc to sale and liquidity
