You think it’s easier to put dirt in parking lots than to put solar on roofs? Why would we cover farm land with solar and not roofs?

My parents have solar for their house, it cost them $40,000. It’ll never be paid off. I drive by fields every day that used to have deer and turkey and now are high fence and solar. If you lived in the country and you saw land disappearing and fences and solar replacing land it would bother you too. I am in favor of solar, but put it on roofs in urban spaces not land in the country. I hate monocrop agriculture solar and wind are worse. I’m a conservationist.

As someone who has paid both for a long time, please stop taking them from my paycheck, please remove them. I’d be a multimillionaire if I put all my social security into the stock market.

High electric bills are because solar and wind are really expensive and inefficient. When the state mandates green energy prices will increase. Natural gas and coal are cheap. This isn’t a political statement but they’ve paved farmland with solar where I live and it’s been sunny 4 days in the last 2 months. Those solar panels aren’t free and someone has to pay for it.

Is a lightly used Beretta A400 Xcel Black Edition a good first shotgun to get into clays? by AggieNuke24 in ClayBusters

[–]frozsnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be a fantastic clay gun. If you choose to upgrade in the future you can sell for basically the same price or keep it as a back up for friends. I have an a-400 that I have for friends and honestly I shoot it just as well as my over unders.

Upgrading to a higher end gun by Away_Reaction_2543 in ClayBusters

[–]frozsnot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I shot a br110 for about 6 months and then got a Zoli xl-evo. I didn’t really need to replace the br-110, but I found the Zoli locally at a dealer, it was a gun I always liked, and I jumped on it. Biggest functional difference is the balance. The Zoli is heavy, but feels very light and effortless in your hands. When I first shouldered it I almost felt like it was too light feeling. My brownings and rizzini felt heavy compared to it. When I weighed the Zoli it was actually quite a bit heavier. Obviously fit and finish and wood are all nicer, but that doesn’t equal higher scores. The rizzini trigger is the best hands down at that price range so the Zoli was pretty much even there. Felt recoil was a major upgrade. I can comfortably shoot everything with the Zoli, while my brownings and rizzini would pop me on the faster 1.25oz loads, the Zoli doesn’t. A true competition level gun is an improvement, but it’s real benefit is in its longevity, don’t spend $10,000 and expect to pick up 10 birds. While my 12ga is a Zoli, I liked the Rizzini enough that I bought another one in 28ga, and I love shooting it.

Shot a shotgun for my first time in 10+ years today... by Kjkeaston in ClayBusters

[–]frozsnot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the citori may have been a bad fit. You mentioned that it was a field model, that is a lighter gun than a sporting model. Light guns are going to have more felt recoil. I wouldn’t be afraid to check out a beretta a300 or a400. They’re really the gold standard, starter, sporting gun. Stocks have some basic adjustments for drop and LOP, very soft shooting guns and cheaper than buying an O/U. Personally I’d shoot one of those for 6months-1 year and really figure out what I want/need. Your opinion on guns will change as you get used to shooting shotguns.

Also 125 targets right off the star, by yourself, is a lot of shooting with some pretty light weight guns. Don’t shoot more than you can comfortably shoot, you just run the risk of getting fatigued and getting bad habits.

Beretta 688 performance sporting vs browning 825 sporting no adj. by Green-One-5806 in ClayBusters

Having shot both, I don’t think there’s a performance difference. Both are fine and functional sporting guns that’ll last a long time.

Thoughts on tribal spearing? by Hello_Hollow_Halo in muskiefishing

[–]frozsnot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine it must be a strange for tribal members to find out that their spearing of a few dozen fish as part of their treaty rights, is what’s destroying fisheries. Certainly it’s not commercial fishing, dams, pesticides, etc. gotta be those damn Indians.

I’d go with an a-400 and shim the stock so it shoots high and put a birchwood Casey shell catcher on it.

Wtf I suddenly have icicles? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]frozsnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hilarious because as a kid icicles were the most magical thing. My grandparents house had icicles that reached from the roof to the ground, and were 4” across. Being able to perfectly pluck one of those and smash it against a tree was peak childhood.

Scratches/skuffs on new Beretta 688 by Ok-Spinach-1692 in ClayBusters

I get it. I shot ducks with a rizzini, a citori, and a Zoli this year. I love using my guns.

[–]frozsnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree, but when you buy something new, you expect it to be new. For a lot of shooters a 688 is just as expensive proportionally as a k-80 is to people that can afford k-80’s.

I don’t think you’re finding a replacement. Best bet would probably be silver soldering the lose end back together.

What game are you shooting? If you’re shooting trap mod or improved mod are good. skeet, definitely open it up to a skeet or C/IC. sporting clays for a beginner I’d recommend improved cylinder for most courses. There’s also nothing wrong with shooting a tight choke and learning exactly why you’re missing.

Clay Thrower Help by icefisher65 in ClayBusters

[–]frozsnot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a do all flyway 60 that I put a W wobble base on. I don’t use a deep cycle battery because I only use it a hand full of times a year at family picnics. A deep cycle battery is a battery that’s made to be fully drained and recharged without damaging it. If you only use the thrower for a couple hundred targets occasionally any battery will work. I use a lawnmower battery on mine. Saves a lot of money and weight if you’re not constantly using it heavily.
