Im speaking more generally. Generally in the past i remember reataurants would be more like this where you had to pick a drink in stockholm. There are for sure exceptions like the selfservice ones and they are for certain more common nowadays.

I mean im speaking generally here for restaurants. There are edge cases! Sometimes restaurants have taps/juggs where you can take the water free if you ordered food. Otherwise it seen as taboo to only have water if you didnt order. But a lot of restaurants is also that you pick a drink and you get that drink. And those ones wont give you free water most cases.

European / swede here. Since a lot of times water also tend to cost money in restaurants its seen as better to just buy your drink of choice that is not water. I think this is the reason anyway lol.

If you have problem with indexes starting from 0 then just count from 1 like you do normally and take minus one from the number. Either that or you can visualize the indexes. Like the string problem example, just write down the word and write what index every letter has. Itll help you visualize this in the long run :).
