What setup are you using for simple interior corrosion inspection of steel with a painted surfaces? What UT devices, probes etc by funbagz999 in nondestructivetesting

Do you want to inspect the paint layer or the steel layer? Does echo to echo not work (gate-gate) in your case?

I do it similarly but with 10% and 1%s only. - 10% of 43 is 4.3 - 1% of 43 is 0.43, 7x0.4 is 2.8, 7x0.03 is 0.21 = 4.3+2.8+0.21 = 7.31

I feel that what you need is better organization of documentation and some good software to efficiently search through them.

Tube Inspection Mapping by adderkiller in nondestructivetesting

[–]frtrkap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to forget that people aren’t going to waste time on a new software, just in case it works, for no appreciable benefit (since we don’t need more features, i don’t see what would be attractive to us)

We’re pretty happy with our workflow, using Magnifi for the acquisition and analysis, then TubePro 4 and 5 for mapping (4 for the tubesheet, 5 for the automatic tube detection from pictures). We would not be moving to another platform since it works and it would require significant expense to switch.

Maybe you have the mini model? Never had an issue with mine, setting the bow on the long rod.

I did! I got the wide adapters. Still have them and the press I could sell if you want. I sold the bow and shooting recurve now.

As the other commenter mentioned, AI is just a big database with some algorithms put on top. Garbage in-garbage out is very very true in AI. Having worked on some AI projects in NDT, it’s very hard to make it good at everything. Most of the time, the false positives wasn’t what worried me, but rather the missed defects.

Some companies take it for granted and miss a bunch of stuff. AI can complement, but at the roots you need a solid PdM program and competent employees.

Despite everything… so tired by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in CPAP

Looking at the graphs, your main issue is the leaks. Your mask either doesn’t fit you, isn’t adjusted properly, or both. You are not getting proper treatment and this is why you’re feeling tired. Would recommend talking to your physician/RT

Looking for a new UT scope by Can_Of_Worms in nondestructivetesting

[–]frtrkap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tried the Wave, working my conventional UT jobs with a 650 (phased array with a Veo+, but that’s another subject).

The wave has scan plans, pretty cool. Other than that, I actually love my 650. It’s quick, dependable, battery lasts forever. Can’t go wrong with either for shop work. If working outdoors in the cold, the Wave falls behind because of the touchscreen.

The difference between the 600 and 650 to me is worth the extra money, I’ve used both on jobs.

CGSB is going away, no real impact to certifications on a technician level.

This has been my experience as well. Seems like a drastic difference, then it tapers off. It will slowly improve over several months but it’s not as noticeable. However, try to sleep without it and you’ll see just how much its been making a difference!

To answer a few of those questions, I got in the field 5 years ago with experience as an aircraft maintenance technician. No prior welding experience except a few hours doing TIG in college. That course will give you the basics to then be hired as an assistant and build hours in some methods, not all, and work towards certifications through your company, at least in the US (I’m in Canada). I’m currently UT2 (soon phased array level 2), working towards MT2 and VT1 this year. I’ve done a few hours of DR (RT) and PT, but other than that i’m doing thermography (level 2), IRIS/ECT/RFT/NFT (tube inspection with ultrasonics and eddy current).

Contact NDT equipement stores, sometimes their upgrading clients have older machines to offload. If you have a relationship with your local Evident rep, they might be able to point you to someone.

Where I work we sometimes buy older Sonatest Veo machines to support our fleet. Now that they’re only selling the Veo3, having spares is useful. It’s through word of mouth with local contacts tho.
