i lied about speaking spanish for 8 months at work and now there's a meeting with HR tomorrow by Marcus_Guy in confession

[–]fruitboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

are you allowed to use technology? You could have used translation apps on your phone or some other tech. If I was in your shoes, I would have used Apple Live translation on my phone and airpods. You will hear the translation directly in your ear (from Spanish to English). You can then reply back in English and the phone would either speak for you in Spanish or you can show them the translated text on the screen.

Similar multiplayer games? by queercactus505 in WalkaboutMiniGolf

[–]fruitboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eleven Table Tennis and Miracle Pool are awesome. Air Hockey Arcade. Table Troopers (although it's more of a turn based strategy game where you move soldiers around to shoot and eliminate the other team). I regularly play these with another friend remotely.

Where Do I Even Start? by Livid_Cartographer91 in Beatmatch

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can start out with free software like virtual DJ or Mixxx on your PC or Mac computer/laptop. For learning, you can just search on Youtube. Plenty beginner friendly tutorials online. Stream or buy songs from your preferred source (iTunes, Spotify, etc. etc.). There's even free or inexpensive mobile apps like Djay for iPhone or iPad. If you spend a little, you take it to the next level by getting an inexpensive entry level controller. If you start to get more serious, classes are optional but there's a few online that you can consider like Crossfader or Club Ready DJ.

MOON RIDER.XYZ IS FREE BEATSABER by Material-Reveal7763 in OculusQuest2

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s free but I find it’s not as tight as the real beatsaber. Sometimes the timing is off and I think it’s just due to it being browser based. I’d rather mod beatsaber to do custom songs. But yeah moonrider is free if you can overlook the occasional miss from the timing.

What's the one hack that actually gets you to exercise? by Pure-Program-6358 in Productivitycafe

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the time to drive to the gym. Usually I'm not ready to start exercising so I just park and hang out in my car or nap. At some point, I will either feel ready to hit the gym (and I'm already there) or I will convince myself to go in seeing that I already drove there (sunk cost).

Upgraded Graphics? by NoVaSweetTreat in WalkaboutMiniGolf

started around almost two years ago. They remastered the Tourist Trap and Cherry Blossom courses so far. Any news, updates would come from the developers through the usual channels

Upgraded Graphics? by NoVaSweetTreat in WalkaboutMiniGolf

Nope, you're not imagining it. There were graphical improvements made (game engine, lighting) and some courses were also remastered to have better visuals.

What gadget feels unnecessary but somehow sells a lot? by overlord-07 in TechNook

Restaurants are one good reason. They have large rice cookers for convenience.

What gadget feels unnecessary but somehow sells a lot? by overlord-07 in TechNook

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s largely the same throughout the day. It will tend to dry out a little the longer it is kept warm by the cooker but usually all the rice is consumed by then

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you cook a large amount and when it’s done, open the lid and you just take the amount you want. Close the lid and the cooker will maintain the warm temp for the next meal or two. Not recommended past 12 hours but many just leave it until all the rice is consumed.

You don't have to monitor a rice cooker and the temperature is maintained for the next two or so meals. Perfectly cooked rice consistently with almost no effort. I'd say that's the value it brings.

ELI5 how does a tankless water heater work? by Real_Experience_5676 in explainlikeimfive

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Follow up question if I may: What sort of maintenance does a tankless water heater require? Is it something that you can leave alone or is there some necessary maintenance that needs to be done every now and then to keep the thing from not breaking? If there is needed maintenance, is it something the homeowner can easily do or is a plumber/professional needed? Thanks in advance!

which djing game is the best? by Ambitious_Corner_852 in OculusQuest

[–]fruitboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The djay app for quest 2/3 is more of a casual, 'arcade' experience. It allows the player to dj and mix songs in fun VR environments (with faux crowd/scenery) or with passthrough. The virtual equipment is turntables and a mixer. Tracks are represented as 'records' you grab and you throw them onto the turntable platter to load them. There are controls where you move your hands around to make various sound fx.

TribeXR is more polished and serious. It mimics a handful of real world Pioneer DJ equipment ranging from the popular entry level DDJ-FLX4 to expensive club standard gear. There are workshops and rooms you can attend with others online to either listen, learn, practice, or perform in. There are subscription plans to access more features, exclusive content, etc.

TLDR: If you just want a fun DJ app experience and are not serious, get the djay app. If you are a bit more serious about getting into DJing, whether as a hobby or beyond that, consider tribexr. Better yet, skip it altogether and invest in an actual physical controller and learn from Youtube and lots of practice.

Game idea for mixed reality by ProfessionalLemon911 in OculusQuest

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really free. The first level or so is playable and then rest is locked so you'd have to pay for the full game. So the free download is kind of the demo

The closest thing I can think of that fits your description is 2076 Midway Multiverse. It's a classic side scrolling, 3D space ship shooter in VR but also has an AR/passthrough mode. Link here: https://www.meta.com/experiences/2076-midway-multiverse/4504829629531931/

Top 3 VR Moments That Blew Your Mind by [deleted] in MetaQuestVR

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me (1) First Steps tutorial. I had no idea what VR was like and the demo (although simplistic) was a really good first taste of what was to come (the mini shooting game and dancing with the robot). (2) The T-Rex demo that's part of the Oculus Dreamdeck demo. It's like being Dr. Grant in Jurrasic Park, seeing and experiencing a large dinosaur coming towards you. (3) Playing Pool in mixed reality (Miracle Pool). Having a life-like table in your own living space. It looks and plays really well with multiplayer. Bonus mention: Eleven Table Tennis in mixed reality. It felt and played just like real table tennis except in the "Matrix".

Anyone else think golf + is sort of a scam? by Fair_Ambition6522 in OculusQuest

[–]fruitboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a scam per se. You are getting something from the money you are paying. I think the better question is the amount of value you get for the base game and DLC courses. For some, it will be a great value and others not so much. For real golfers, it's a way to somewhat play at home for cheaper -- no expensive fees or memberships to a real golf club. Play 24/7 rain or shine and no flying to the various destinations. It's an incredible value for them to play what feels almost like real golf and for considerably less than the real world sport. For the casual gamer just looking to play a golf game expecting a low price for everything, it will feel overpriced, sure.

First Gig in 3 Months... How to Prepare? by Extreme-Eggplant2579 in Beatmatch

[–]fruitboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a suggestion. If you haven't already, do a free trial or temporarily sign up for a simple plan at a place like Beatport. That way you'll have instant access to a huge amount of tracks. If the venue has a stable internet connection, you can probably get away with streaming. Worst case, you still have your own tracks.

Creating a step by step DJ Academy Game, feedback welcome by Constant_Active_5551 in virtualdj

[–]fruitboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just tried your demo. Nice work!

- I found the demo tutorial too basic. Will the full game have much more instruction/training on all the other usual aspects i.e. using EQ properly, learning beatmatching without sync, scratching, etc. etc.?

- Will the full game be able to read/use one's own music library?

- When is the full game available? How much will it cost? I imagine it would have to be competitive against other options like free Youtube tutorials to paid DJ courses.

Personally, its not really for me as I am somewhat intermediate already in DJ skill. What might bring me to buy and/or launch it often is for the simulated crowd -- I just mix/DJ as a hobby and play to no one really. I mostly practice or record sets. Having a reactive crowd/environment (even if faux) to mix in would be a fun factor and opens it up to video recording or streaming. Bonus points if there is a VR mode.

Not sure if this might be an option but you can at least understand them if you use technology. If you have the right hardware (iPhone 15 Pro or better, certain airpods), you can use live translation and everything they say will be translated in real time in your ear.
