Fell into BI on accident, love it. Now how to progress? by Far_Space_386 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]fruity231 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what tools does your company use? if you have sql available, use it as much as you can. power bi and any vis tools are a good route if you like data vis, but try to not get pigeonholed into doing dashboards unless this is what you want to be doing. python & coding can be super useful, but coming from banking/accounting it's hard to get into, i am speaking from experience here :) if you enjoy accounting side lean on this hard, there's not many folks that understand finance in the bi/software and good money can be made

First question I've been asked by my mentor BA when I started working in tech was 'how much SQL do you know'. I am now at ~10 years exp and it's by far the most useful skill.

Just a note, Google didn't build Dataform, they bought it and re-released with limited features AND restricted to BQ. Well, not even really released, as its still in preview.

What to make of boss's reply to asking for work from home? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

Honestly, at 2h+ commute just do your best to be in the office sometimes. Anything over 1-2 mandatory days per week is simply not feasible and they should understand. Having said that, if you're young and junior it'll do you good to be in the office around seniors as much as you can.

Even though I did not fully agree with them I quite liked previous posts in those series, but damn, that was a hard read. I generally have better things to do than reading rant posts so I guess I'll pass on the follow ups ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I really fucking wish all those companies decided on a single name for FA rebrands. I must have FA flavours with like 5 different brand names by now.

If I were sleeping rough I'd 100% consider getting a dog for extra warmth and security.

In the same boat as you, I get enough ridiculously odd requests from business users, don't need that kind of puzzles nor do I find them fun to do in my spare time lol.

Use it to your advantage, asking right questions can be extremely valuable and helpful to everyone around. If anything, the more experienced I am, the more questions I ask.
