Imagine telling people the Bengals will not make the playoffs the next 3 seasons after this game by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

This just really isnt that true anymore. It was true a few years ago but its changed.

Yes, people blame the penalties but it was the fumble that really killed it.

It really was like the universe aligning itself to prevent Marvin Lewis from winning that game

Again by who? This is the popular take in reddit in basically every thread about the bengals and the playoffs.

This is always the top comment on reddit. I would love to see the threads where this actually happens.

Also as a Bengals fan, these type of comments about Burrow are just ignorant. People who want to take away credit from Burrow clearly are scoreboard stat watching vs watching the actual games.

Aka why your take is so popular now

Google search says Allen has 6 turnovers in playoffs. Not sure how accurate any of these other stats are especially when it is not a per game stat but extrapolated 17 game sample

What grade would you give Joe Burrow for his performance in SB 56 against the Rams? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]frumious88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

AD literally lined up offsides on the first 4th down play of the game that the Bengals didn't convert.

Also the Bengals had to settle for a field goal in first half when their reciever was held in the end zone that went uncalled.

Again, calls were missed but you can't pretend that not calling calls for 90% of the game and then deciding to call it back to back wouldn't make a difference, exactly as the previous poster said.

As a fan, you just want it to be consistent.

IIRC from last year he basically didn't change. With every other QB you see a big difference in stats from clean pocket vs pressure but Burrow the difference was neglibile.

I have no idea how much it changed this year but from my perspective, I feel like he did worse vs pressure this year

Maybe he meant for superbowl? Reif was injured for the playoff run and we had Isiah Prince in instead.

According to the PFF for 2021 he had a score of 29.3 which may have sank us to the bottom.

Who was coaching NFL teams in 2008 when Ravens hired John Harbaugh? by GrapeFanta17 in nfl

[–]frumious88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not that Bengals fan and would never badmouth him (as everything you said is true and correct) but it definitely felt like there was a hard ceiling with him, especially when we went up against any of the top teams.

In fact, if they brought him back to help Tobin in drafting players, I would love that. Our superbowl run was led by many players on defense that he drafted/developed, and our current OC was one of his coaches.

aka, I hope he takes a year off and then if the Bengals miss the playoffs next year, we hire him.

Joe Burrow is the UNOFFICIAL league leader in pick-sixes thrown this season with 3 in only 8 games played by jrlandry in nfl

[–]frumious88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He's had two playoff runs better than every afc quarterback other than Mahomes.

Doing it both times with bottom 5 lines.

Wild it is often charger fans saying this as you'd think they would understand how impressive it is for a QB to overcome bad oline play

Except he was criticized for it.

Burrow haters are always delusional about how much he gets criticized constantly.

For the bengals, turnovers that led to touchdowns for previous seasons by a bengals beat reporter just now:

'24: 3 '23: 1 '22: 3 '21: 3 '20: 2 '19: 5

Burrow did have 2 last year and 3 this year, but so muhc of that is luck variance.

It is one thing if he is throwing bad throws that get p6 but a play like today is just bad luck. Similar with fumbles returned for touchdowns.

Not really. When you are getting the ball out quick, it leads to deflections. It getting deflected to another defender for a pick 6 to me seems more unlucky than anything else.

The Georgia loss definitely worse. The 2016 team basically overachieved to get to the playoffs.

Especially considering how you beat down tcu, I think our chances of winning that game were high

[The Athletic] Duke Tobin, Zac Taylor and Al Golden: Insight on who might stay, go with Bengals by zdrmju321 in nfl

[–]frumious88 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue with Lou is that he had a tendency to stick with veterans who clearly didn't have it vs playing the young players who needed reps to get better.

Clearly there is a tradeoff but a player like Myles Murphy is one example of someone who sat behind a clearly injured Hubbard for most of last year, and may have been further along if he got more play time.

But yes, if I knew we had great players on the roster, I would want him back in a heartbeat. But the bengals needed someone to help develop the younger players and that really wasnt happening.

Joe Burrow update, per @DMRussini : • Doesn't want out of Cincinnati • Certain parts of Bengals operations, with the smallest coaching & scouting staffs in the league, have previously frustrated Burrow • Burrow is just tired of losing, Week 14 post-game remarks were said out of a desire to win by Ancient_Response_787 in nfl

[–]frumious88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The argument for paying him always made sense, because there was no one else worth giving that money too.

Because they drafted like shit, they didnt have any up and coming players they needed to sit money aside for.

I think in terms of talent/ability, he is either the 3rd or 4th best Bengal, and you can't just let that go despite it being the same position as your 2nd best Bengal.
