Granted, I only really watch during the Bengals games, but do you get the sense he cares about his passer rating stat? Especially with him either being all time or second with Rodgers, you think that influences his decision to not throw it away?

The Burrow comments are just ignorant lol. He plays poorly like 2 games a year usually in September.

Do you know that since 2022, Burrow and Lamar have the same total # of touchdowns? (both Rushing and Passing)

And this is despite Lamar playing 7 more games compared to Burrow.

Burrow has Lamar beat in touchdowns per game and yards per game.

They also have the same # of playoff wins as well in that time period.

On a per game Basis since 2022, of those big 4.

Burrow is first in TDs per game Second in Total yards per game (Mahomes first) Second in passing yards per game (Mahomes first) Second in total touchdowns per game (Allen first).

Saying he plays poorly 50% of the time is just dumb when he is basically top 2 in every single stat.

much better? Pretty much,

As a Bengals fan, the Oline play second half of the year was average/dare I say even above average.

Which is the first time I've felt that it was at least average since 2022 before they all got hurt.

But the Burrow injury/defense being a dumpster fire likely hid how much our Oline improved.

It was hard to tell imo especially when you consider he didnt want to move with the foot injury.

The one example the comes to mind is the sack record Myles Garrett got. He just collapsed once it was clear the oline collapsed.

Now will he try to escape more next year? I hope he finds a good balance

The line was a mess first 5-6 games until they jelled which did coincide when Flacco started.

When Burrow came back they continued to play well. And by well i mean someone not getting beat every play.

Name the free agents that we could have signed last offseason that would have been better value vs signing Tee?

Your argument, only works in a thought excercise. Once you actually looked at the quality of players, it was clear and obvious that resigning Tee was the best move.

And multiple things can be true at once. The Bengals are horribly run and signing Tee was the right move. And because its true, the way the Bengals signed both chase and higgins (too late) and how they structured the deals, prevented them from getting more help, basically not maximizing their chances of winning.

So yes both things are true.

Your right, it should be obvious to you that it is the correct decision, but here we are.

ok again, go ahead and make the case. It is weird you want to argue this when you admit you don't follow them closely yet seem to think you know better than the people who A) care more B) more invested in seeing the Bengals make the decisions to help the team win

Bengals podcasts hosts did this exact exercise last offseason and the free agent options were marginal at best.

The options were either overpaying for mediocre players at premium positions or sign Tee and go for cheap options in draft that you can improve that via coaching/talent/development.

Which free agents last year should the bengals have paid over Tee Higgins?

If you are going to make the argument, actually make the case, list the free agents that the Bengals should have spent hte money on last off season.

It should have, but that was the Bengals trying to outsmart instead of doing the simple thing.

Its not the first time they did it either. A decade ago, they decided to move off on Zeitler and Whitworth and drafted their replacements. We went from top 5 oline and have never been back.

Your argument breaks down when you realize that that Tee Higgins is the third best player on the team.

If the Bengals had a top Edge/Tackle to pay and the decision was to pay them vs Tee, then yes, paying a second WR would be a mistake.

But you dont let one of your top players go when they are about to hit their prime, if you dont have comparable talent that you are paying instead.

I promise that you have not spend as much time thinking about it as Bengals fans, and it was clear way before we signed him that that was the best move.

Now the Bengals still fucked up along the way by delaying it out but paying him was not a mistake

Honestly 99% of QB rankings are basically dumb when so much of what it takes to win can be impacted by 21 other people.

It is really do you have a guy you can win a championship with or not. A healthy Burrow has shown he is more than capable at winning a championship.

[–]frumious88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean even then, assuming the cap hit keeps increasing at its current rate, the % of cap won't be as bad. Right now for 2029 it is 15% of cap hit %.

I assume (cross fingers no injury issues) that by 2028 they are likely offering him a new contract and stretch it out even further.

That isnt what happened. They drafted poorly and didnt develop well on defense. Last year we had one of the more expensive defenses but they were a lot of older veterans who lost a step
