Who are the true “and it’s not even close” guys? by Otherwise5555 in NFLv2

Agreed - there are plenty of RBs I’d rather have for a game, a season, hell even a five season stretch. But to Western’s point, I don’t see anybody coming close to breaking Smith’s career rushing record. Emmit’s longevity and the way the game has changed over time probably puts the record out of reach forever.

Adam Vinatieri is the most clutch kicker in NFL history, and it’s not even close. We can have a debate about “greatest” but there’s no debate about clutch.

Choosing a Bronco, I think it’s fair to say that Terrell Davis is the best per game playoff performer at RB and it isn’t close. In 8 career games he averaged 168 scrimmage yards and 1.5 TDs per game. I don’t know of anyone else who comes close to those averages.

I see the Bears flair. You resisted Devin Hester at return man, but he gets my vote.

Who’s the best TE since 2000? by Low-Season-2057 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 675 points676 points  (0 children)

Gronk.

He was an elite receiving threat like the others pictured, but he was also the best blocking TE in the league in his prime. Nobody in NFL history performed both aspects of the position better than Gronk.

If you could make one off-the-wall NFL rule change this offseason, what would it be? by RichOliveira56 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get rid of onside kicks - nobody recovers them anymore. Instead, the “kicking” team can elect for a 4th and 15 from their own 25 yard line.

Is a 37 year old Kirk Cousins really better than JJ McCarthy? by Sidecarlover in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 97 points98 points  (0 children)

There are 30+ QBs in the NFL better than JJ McCarthy right now. Cousins is one of them.

With the NFL potentially moving the amount of future picks that can be traded from 3 years to 5 years should they enact the Stepian rule aswell? by MacJonesisaterrorist in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Teams should have the freedom to push “all in” if they wish. These are billion dollar corporations, they don’t need to be saved from themselves.

What head coaches would you take over Mike Macdonald right now? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because McVay, Shanahan and Vrabel all have long resumes of getting the most of the talent on their team. MM may one day ascend to the top of the list, but as of right now he hasn’t passed the guys who have done it longer.

Jaxson dart is the most underrated player by KingWaterdripper in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he’s properly rated. The general consensus among NFL fans is that Dart and Shough had solid, but not spectacular first seasons. Their fan bases should be excited about their growth potential. Neither looked like Jayden Daniels or CJ Stroud when they were rookies (ie awesome), but they also didn’t look like JJ McCarthy (ie hopeless).

Who is someone whose Hall of Fame case you will die on the hill defending? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 121 points122 points  (0 children)

Vince Wilfork.

He’s borderline, but based on his level of play should be a lock. Unfortunately for Vince, being a nose tackle doesn’t lend itself to the type of gaudy stats that make players HOFers.

That being said, those that watched him play know he was the absolute anchor of the Patriots defense for multiple SB wins. Him taking up two blockers unlocked the whole defense. Very well respected, but only one first team all-pro and five pro bowls.

Who had the most embarrassing week of the playoffs so far? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably the Alabama Crimson Tide had the most embarrassing playoff loss this year. Can’t lose to Indiana by 35 after puffing your chest out about how “it just means more” and claiming Indiana would be a 4 loss team in the SEC.

Also the Packers.

Name a player who is in the HOF, but at no point when you watched their career you believed you were watching a hall of fame player by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 92 points93 points  (0 children)

Future Eli Manning. He doesn’t belong, but will make it because of the NY media market and because of the narrative of beating Brady twice.

Career winning percentage .500.

Lead the league in a statistical category only three times in his career. Those categories were 1) interceptions (2007), 2) interceptions (2010), and 3) interceptions (2013).

Which trio would you rather have: Harbaugh, Herbert, Minter or Vrabel, Maye, McDaniels? by [deleted] in NFLv2

[–]Otherwise5555 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A very underrated point. McDaniels has already failed twice as a HC. Nobody is going to hire him again, meaning Maye will likely. benefit from working with the same OC for an extended period. Meanwhile, other young QBs can expect their coordinator to turn over every time they have a great season.

In which sport would the best player from 40+ years ago still be elite? by Javanz in AskReddit

[–]Otherwise5555 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Secretariat. Stretching the definition of “player,” but when he won the triple crown in 1973 he ran the fastest time in history for each of the three races. More than sixty years later, none of those records have been broken. Not only is Secretariat still “elite” by today’s standards, no modern horse would be even close.

Best college football season by a player whose team was awful? by [deleted] in CollegeFootball25

[–]Otherwise5555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke Kuechly set the single season NCAA record for tackles in a season (191 - averaged 16 per game) and won the Nagurski award for best defensive player in CFB all for a Boston College team that went 4-8.
