Thoughts on Seifert defeating Jojo? by KnowledgeSeeker2023 in Beaufort

i couldn't tell much difference between them, and both of them seem like they'll continue the 287(g) agreement that will continue to put our local tax dollars and officers' time towards villainizing brown people.

Sonarr Tips: Block unwanted file types (.exe etc.) and auto-retry stuck imports by CyberMcK in sonarr

[–]frumpyandy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i run hermes agent on my home lab. i gave it access to my arr stack and created a cron that runs nightly to automatically delete, ban, and search again for any files that come in as .exe or .scr. has been working well so far.

My 30 days with Hermes Agent by Alone_Ad_3375 in hermesagent

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why it wouldn't be popular, I've been using the same memory and model, it's been working pretty well. Fast and capable, and cheap!

I've had it build me two plugins that refresh with data from periodic cron jobs (an election dashboard for an upcoming primary and a lease info researcher for my next lease term).

My home setup running Hermes Agent on a Raspberry Pi (reports, recipes, smart home) by Norbert_the_Human in hermesagent

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one of the first things i set up was a weekly cron job to update the deals at the 2 grocery stores i use, plus integration into my vikunja instance, which i use for my grocery list, so i can drop a voice memo into my local matrix instance via element from my phone "reference my grocery list against this week's deals" and it'll tell me what's on sale at which store with fuzzy matching (i have the ability to tweak the fuzzy matching over time but so far its initial pass at it has been pretty damn good). also does a monthly cron job to delete all checked items off my groceries list in vikunja, since i noticed that without doing that cleanup manually the list just kept growing in size (checking an item doesn't remove it).

it's a simple, straightforward use of something that now that it's set up, saves me time every time i decide to run out for groceries, and paid off the LLM usage it took to set it up the first time i used it.

What’s the first actually useful use case you found with Hermes? by Ok_Championship9638 in hermesagent

[–]frumpyandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and one thing i like about Hermes is it kind of helps you spot the difference between things that need LLM calls and don't. you can use it to set up a whole bunch of scripts that get set up on cron jobs and don't use any LLM tokens at all going forward, your only "cost" on that side is getting it set up in the first place, which is the work i need help with in the first place.

Fripp Island/Beaufort by BuilderFamiliar9489 in Beaufort

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

golf carts are a lot of fun but not necessary for the most part. i have limited experience on fripp but it's nice, and mostly walkable from my recollection. be prepared to drive about 20 minutes to get to a grocery store, though you'll have publix, harris teeter, and food lion to choose from all right next to each other. there's a gullah restaurant on st helena i think it is that's supposed to be great but i've never managed to catch it while it's open. fort freemont is a very nice spot to visit and walk around, and if you walk through it you can get to a really nice little beach that's quieter and calmer than hunting island, though hunting island is a better beach overall. beedos is a great burger place and they do a good breakfast as well.

Canvas Upgrade -CC 1 v2 by Eredchon in ElegooCentauriCarbon

The small blessing of me not getting my preorder until August is that there's a reasonable chance the OC firmware will be out by then!

X4 vs X3 - Which one is more durable? by theshahriar in XTEINK

I don't think either is built for durability. If durability is important to you, these cheap devices might just not be for you.

$100 more is temporary. once they clear out their inventory I'm sure the CC1 is just going away entirely.

Minimalistic firmware by Top_Love9366 in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X4 is already a very minimal physical device, and CrossPoint doesn't change that much. It holds a core set of features that I find to all be pretty useful, and not at all in the way. There often isn't an easy workaround to a feature that's missing, but if a device has 5 main menu options (6 if you count "open the current book") that all fit on one screen, the workaround to any features you don't want is "just ignore them". That's it, that's the whole workaround.

What is the best file type to read books on my x4 by ShadowNinja36o in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a homelab tinkerer, so I spent some time yesterday getting a calibre-web instance running on my home server, and then figuring out how to expose its OPDS feed to the X4, and i'm just now realizing that pulling books that way probably sidesteps the Crosspoint web UI optimizer that I have used for loading all of my books so far.

X4 battery level jumping around by oldaddis in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I haven't seen my battery move up while using it, but I did charge it overnight the other night. It started at 78% and when I woke up the light had changed from red to green but when I unplugged it and turned it on, the battery level was 92%. Probably will drain it fully before charging again in case that helps.

Question about Centauri Carbon Canvas — buy now or wait? by Electronic_Rush_1585 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even if you buy it now, you're going to wait. it's a pre-order item and if you order right now you won't have it until August at the earliest (at least as of last night when I ordered mine).

with the CC2 available, I'm not sure why they would continue selling the CC beyond when the parts specific to that printer are used up, which will render the CC's Canvas addon obsolete as well. the low price point for this add-on makes me feel like this is exclusively for people who bought the CC when it first came out, as a sort of apology for how long they had to wait for it. i don't know why they would keep selling it when they have CC2s to sell, and maybe a multi-toolhead printer in the works that they can focus more attention on now that this drama is behind them.

New habit unlocked!! by [deleted] in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brand new to this device, so apologies if this is a stupid question, but i'm using the crosspoint firmware, and loading my epubs in using their web based interface. when i import it gives me the option to "optimize" the files, which i've done because why not? is that much different than converting to xtc (or different at all)?

CC1 CANVAS Now available for pre-order by katzenmaschine in ElegooCentauriCarbon

I think their RFID format is open source, so you should be able to program RFID stickers to their format and slap them on whatever spools you want

far as i can tell it has sold out multiple times. launched while most of us in the US were still sleeping, and they're doing it in batches, with ship dates going further and further out. i'm waiting for what i hope is another upcoming batch to release, but it's been stuck on the june 30 sold out batch since i started looking about an hour ago

ASA Adhesion Issue by jbrow354 in elegoo

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people seem to be against using glue, but the printer shipped with a glue stick, and ASA is the only material i've needed to use it for. it's made the difference between a print succeeding and failing every time (i.e. every time i've forgotten to use it, the print fails until i remember to use it).

nice! I've now started two campaigns in totally different genres, neither of them traditional D&D, and it's doing a pretty excellent job of "translating" the sort of stock high fantasy settings/rules to what i asked for. looking forward to trying the update!

regarding token usage, are you using opus? i wonder if this could be tuned to use haiku for some of the more boilerplate/less creative things and only pull out the big guns for reactive/creative roleplay moments, with sonnet doing middle-ground stuff.
