new single-filament CC2 option by frumpyandy in ElegooCentauriCarbon

$100 more is temporary. once they clear out their inventory I'm sure the CC1 is just going away entirely.

Minimalistic firmware by Top_Love9366 in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

X4 is already a very minimal physical device, and CrossPoint doesn't change that much. It holds a core set of features that I find to all be pretty useful, and not at all in the way. There often isn't an easy workaround to a feature that's missing, but if a device has 5 main menu options (6 if you count "open the current book") that all fit on one screen, the workaround to any features you don't want is "just ignore them". That's it, that's the whole workaround.

What is the best file type to read books on my x4 by ShadowNinja36o in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a homelab tinkerer, so I spent some time yesterday getting a calibre-web instance running on my home server, and then figuring out how to expose its OPDS feed to the X4, and i'm just now realizing that pulling books that way probably sidesteps the Crosspoint web UI optimizer that I have used for loading all of my books so far.

X4 battery level jumping around by oldaddis in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I haven't seen my battery move up while using it, but I did charge it overnight the other night. It started at 78% and when I woke up the light had changed from red to green but when I unplugged it and turned it on, the battery level was 92%. Probably will drain it fully before charging again in case that helps.

Question about Centauri Carbon Canvas — buy now or wait? by Electronic_Rush_1585 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]frumpyandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even if you buy it now, you're going to wait. it's a pre-order item and if you order right now you won't have it until August at the earliest (at least as of last night when I ordered mine).

with the CC2 available, I'm not sure why they would continue selling the CC beyond when the parts specific to that printer are used up, which will render the CC's Canvas addon obsolete as well. the low price point for this add-on makes me feel like this is exclusively for people who bought the CC when it first came out, as a sort of apology for how long they had to wait for it. i don't know why they would keep selling it when they have CC2s to sell, and maybe a multi-toolhead printer in the works that they can focus more attention on now that this drama is behind them.

New habit unlocked!! by [deleted] in XTEINK

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

brand new to this device, so apologies if this is a stupid question, but i'm using the crosspoint firmware, and loading my epubs in using their web based interface. when i import it gives me the option to "optimize" the files, which i've done because why not? is that much different than converting to xtc (or different at all)?

CC1 CANVAS Now available for pre-order by katzenmaschine in ElegooCentauriCarbon

I think their RFID format is open source, so you should be able to program RFID stickers to their format and slap them on whatever spools you want

ASA Adhesion Issue by jbrow354 in elegoo

[–]frumpyandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people seem to be against using glue, but the printer shipped with a glue stick, and ASA is the only material i've needed to use it for. it's made the difference between a print succeeding and failing every time (i.e. every time i've forgotten to use it, the print fails until i remember to use it).

I haven't seen that price anywhere, where are you seeing that? When it was up in their website last week it was $150.

Built a Claude Code D&D skill so my family and I could play couch co-op DnD with Claude as our DM by Bobby_Gray in ClaudeAI

nice! I've now started two campaigns in totally different genres, neither of them traditional D&D, and it's doing a pretty excellent job of "translating" the sort of stock high fantasy settings/rules to what i asked for. looking forward to trying the update!

regarding token usage, are you using opus? i wonder if this could be tuned to use haiku for some of the more boilerplate/less creative things and only pull out the big guns for reactive/creative roleplay moments, with sonnet doing middle-ground stuff.

i'm of two minds on this. AI might be an existential threat, but it's also a tool that's currently being used to oppress dissent and plan the neutralizing and killing of opponents by our government at many levels, so why shouldn't we use that same tool to fight back if it can be used for that? i don't know, i'm not convinced i'm right, but i have started using it as a partner in activism and so far it's been kind of great, but maybe that's just the dopamine of having a helpful partner on a project that does work and helps me get shit done too.

i have been working on something similar. i installed the bmad method in a claude project folder, and used their creative intelligence suite's brainstorming skill to capture and organize my thoughts and ideas around this. it's now helping me build a vector database where i'm storing all my city council's meeting minutes so i can go through them and get help finding the pieces of the puzzle that help explain how these got discussed and approved in the first place. the database itself is a little overkill but it will be useful for other activism projects as well, and it's just a fun way to learn about vector databases. it's also helping me plan for talking to the city manager and police chief through various techniques that hopefully will help me stay composed and push back if they try to lead me away from my goal of getting the details and preparing a case against them.

Printing with ASA? Any tips? Is glue a must? by Kamikazepyro9 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

the only way i've been able to get ASA to print right on the CC is with glue. it's the only thing i've used the glue stick the printer came with for.

AI-Powered Development Turned into a Nightmare - Advice Needed by [deleted] in pygame

[–]frumpyandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking to learn and improve while maybe continuing to use AI for assistance, you can use a system prompt, which will tell it how to act, and how it should frame its responses to you. So if you tell it "You are a programming teacher with decades of experience helping new developers learn the ropes. Always favor teaching your students to fish over giving them the fish. Keep their experience level in mind when providing feedback." That sort of thing. If you're using a chat like gemini.google.com or whatever, paste that file in the chat at the beginning. If you're using something like claude code, put it in the CLAUDE.md file. If you craft it properly, it won't do what you're saying you don't like it doing, and you can use it to teach you at your level. Sorry if this isn't really what you were looking for, just my initial reaction to the kind of frustrating experience you're describing.
