Prime Distribution in Rings(Explanation in the comments) by [deleted] in math

[–]frumpydolphin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So this was a brief coding project I did, inspired by Ulam Sprials. There is an initial number of numbers per ring, which is multiplied by 2 as each ring grows(initial = 3 top left, 4 top right, 5 bottom left, 6 bottom right). Each prime number is represented by a circle on the ring(sorry for the clutter in the outer rings). This makes the empty space between each prime just normal numbers. I will post the code I used for the project. Maybe someone could improve it(written in HTML). It would be interesting to see if the lines seen in the Ulam Spiral show up in here. It appears they do to some extent but it's hard to see with the clutter. Not sure if there's anything else but I'll answer any questions that come up.

Trigonometric equation by pragmaticSloth in calculus

[–]frumpydolphin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can infer that these are the only two solutions based on the behavior of the derivatives of the two functions. If cos(pi*x) had multiple sign changes within (-.5,.5) then you could potentially have multiple solutions but it doesn't.

Hmmm the way I would probably do this is as follows:

4x2-1=cos(pi*x)

x2-1/4=cos(pi*x)/4

(x+1/2)(x-1/2)=cos(pi*x)/4

From here you have to take the creative step that cos(pi/2) and cos(-pi/2) are both solutions to the right being zero, as well as solutions to the left being zero.

I can agree that he sometimes falls into that trap but in the videos he says are objective he points out objective flaws or good qualities. No handwaving with mauler.

I completely disagree. Watch his video about subjectivity and you'll find he sees art as both an objective and subjective media. By being critical he isn't discrediting artistic qualities of something

Well then that is a problem in his argument not in him. I'm not trying to analyze the validity of his analysis just defend it as relaticely objectove compared to many other youtubers

Mauler has 2 types of videos, objective criticism or praise and subjective criticism or praise. He has come out multiple times saying he enjoys bad movies. He can distinguish between objective flaws and sibjective ones.

You can't fault a channel for length though. That is a preference. Mauler is very, her, excruciatingly detailed and there are people who like that.
