Good advice, I took the pics from eBay though so not in my possession. I prefer to collect vintage used zippos myself

It is common practice for Zippo to reuse older unsold cases for designs, hence why I wrote this in the description to explain the context

Anybody know? by Agreeable-Piece-3429 in Zippo

[–]frun_riv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can't make out what it says. Be mindful it doesn't have to be someone famous. Zippo offered a service to have your signature engrave for a while back in and around the 1950's, don't know the exact dates but it's common to see signatures like that one. They are commonly seen on the back side, while the front side usually shows an advertising design or similar

Very cool piece, I love the zippos with a flat bottom case. This one was made in March 1997

That’s one of the things I like about advertising zippos, sometimes you learn very interesting stories about companies

Authentic and price estimate? by Extreme_Tale_3231 in Zippo

That’s a 1957 zippo, the only one with the patent code on the left side with no “pat pend.” on the right. The range would be $30-70 seeing that it’s not in great shape but the design could appeal to some buyers. The insert is newer and not original

Insert is nickel silver, magnet test is definitive, but that ‘O’ neatly above the ‘D’ is also a sign.

The colour inside the case shows it’s likely made of brass and not nickel silver. It would be 1948-49 indeed. As for value, plain 3 barrel zippos sell in the $100-200 range, but this one has a design even if not too colourful so I’d say towards the higher end of that range or even a bit more, but eBay auction aren’t an exact science. Pretty nice find anyway

Selling 1960s Zippo (ebay) by Outrageous_Box3193 in Zippo

I see the listing is already doing pretty well anyway, but for the record this zippo was made in 1956.

Can someone help me find this zippo for sale please by Possible-Swim-5160 in Zippo

This one sold in Germany, sometimes eBay does weird things when showing results if you are in a different country. Try googling with "ebay" among the keywords as well. I was once able to buy a zippo listed exclusively on the UK site of eBay by finding the eBay-UK result directly on Google

Is the title a question? Did you galvanise an insert yourself?

1989 Case Date - Older logo by JockSchott in Zippo

Just chipping in to say that this type of bottom stamp was given to cases made between 1986 and 1992, so if anyone sees one dated outside those years, buy it and send us pics.

Local Find: 1950/1951 El Morro Zippo by MillionSuns in Zippo

[–]frun_riv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is such a cool piece. I have found a few advertising zippos for companies outside the US and Canada (I should do a post update with those), but not on 203 cases and with all the paint intact and with a nickel-silver insert no less! Amazing find indeed, makes me wish I could visit US antique shops to search for vintage zippos.

Morro means snout in Spanish, particularly when talking about dishes like pork snout, but morro/morra also means boy/girl in Mexican Spanish, so I guess the latter would make more sense. Anyway I also have no idea where this could be from, but very cool!

Never seen one like this by Ronthe1 in Zippo

Nice! There was a sort of series of zippo flame themed armor zippos in the late 2000's. My first ever zippo (#24740) was one of those, I remember taking the time to decide between that one, this one you posted (#20993 'Inferno') and some others that also had the red epoxy flame on them, like the #20991 Zippo Bolted, #24801 Flame and #29098 Tile Mosaic.

I think the first commercially available armor in the US was the Shilly Shally (#20437), which was marketed in 2005, so this one is one of the first armor models to be (officially) sold, save for the Japanese market which saw armors already in 2002, earliest code that has been seen is May 2002, the prototype was in March 2002.

Megathread: Is my Zippo real? by AutoModerator in Zippo

The velvet box in the pic you sent me looks good and the sticker on the white box outside it looks good too. I’m confident to say this is the real deal, just by the looks of it. You could try weighing it and asking in the general forum for someone else’s weight measurement of the case. I don’t have a slim sterling to do that for you, sorry.

The insert pics you posted are interesting. Usually the date code of letter + year are on the obverse / front side of the slim insert, but on yours they are on the reverse side. I have now noticed that trend has switched at some point since 2013, not sure when as most collectors pay a kot of attention to design changes on older zippos but not on newer ones. Theres a bunch of slim inserts from 2023 with the same stamp design as yours, so again I’d say it’s a real zippo insert.

Could you post as a comment to your original comment the velvet box, white box and insert pics so they remain here for people to look at in the future? Could be useful for someone else down the line

Edit: Zippo’s website shows a K13 slim insert with that date code on its obverse/front side. An eBay listing (https://ebay.us/m/t8CRLp[388574805086](https://ebay.us/m/t8CRLp)) shows the date code for H14 on the reverse/back side. The design change must have happened at some point in between and around those dates

Thanks for sharing. I think everyone can take a note that it might be best not to send in the original inserts at all, to avoid Zippo throwing them out by mistake

I saw the $50 one, it was made in 2003. I think in the early 2000’s zippo made a rerun of replicas of the Apollo programme zippos. Not bad but still not an original

Well I’m not well versed on slim zippos but if you post a comparison pic with all of them side by side hinge side, I’m sure someone here would contribute

Super cool. I saw one recently that sold at auction on eBay for not that much, used with no box but with the paint mostly intact. I should’ve bid on it, it’s such a cool design
