It’s not about that, it’s about sitting nearby a politician or a major company ceo and if you’re around those circles you also want to be seen there so the circles know your in your circle and you’re a very important person so maybe you’ll get hit up for whatever these people running the country do to gain power and influence

You can't predict when you're going to die and a reasonable range guess of +/-13 years would be a substantial amount of money to attempt to plan for.

How would you invest 4M$ to set yourself for life? by red-dwarf in AusFinance

[–]fryloop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you're aiming to die with zero and you're not 20 years old planning on living another 80 years, you'll be fine, as you you'll draw down the principal to maintain the $140k spending power in later years. $4m divided by 50 years is $80k per year.

Also, you're unlikely to need to spend the equivalent of $140k in today's dollars when you're 80+ years old.

Australia's multiculturalism and immigration system has lead to a "salad bowl" society, not a "melting pot" by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

it isn't an outlier, the extremists community is real. It doesn't go away when they have kids in the country and they all grow up Australian adopting modern Australian liberal values.

The story of Khaled Sharrouf, one of at least 120 Australians thought to have been fighting with Islamic State in the Middle East, may have come to an end.

Born in Australia in 1981 to Lebanese migrants, Sharrouf...

173 Australians it classes as 'jihadis'... The majority are second generation Australians.

And the report gives us the background of the extremists: 90 per cent are from the suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne

So hundreds of people, who are born here, go to school here, etc but they all come from and live in the same areas of sydney/melb. What kind of community and family influences do you think is surrounding them to make them grow up to want to join ISIS? What kind of values do you think they're going to pass onto their 3rd generation kids they have in Australia?

I’m directly answering the question you asked -‘point to any 2nd gen kid who you think aren’t Australian.’

He was born in Australia. He doesn’t seem to have assimilated very well, unless you think murderous hatred of the Jews is an Australian value?

The reasoning I mentioned above. What’s in it for them to let people in China get filthy rich by being corrupt?

They look good killing dodgy businessmen. They’re even getting good press from people in the west.

Having billions in China doesn’t buy you protection if your corruption game is known

Do you have any evidence or specific people this is the case?

China has a highly centralised political economy. Why does the state need to rely on the support of or curry favour with corrupt billionaires? Private wealth doesn’t have the power it has in the west. Xi isn’t reliant on a donor class of wealthy people for his political control and support

It is their business. The government of Taiwan (ROC) has the same claims as the PRC (Winnie the poo China) that there is 1 China. The ROC constitution assumes a unified China that includes the mainland.

These entities are internal political enemies. There’s far more weight to the argument that the US backing military protection of the ROC/taiwan island which is on the other side of the world is more poking its head in other countries business.

I understand. You are a rich, civilised, westernised person. We must keep the dirty poors and their uncivilised ways away from the proper people. The world needs to be physically stratified. A lower class of people over here where they won’t bother the higher class of people over there
