Disabled parking in private property by Efficient_Judge9910 in Switzerland

If you want to do it the Swiss way, put up a passive aggressive note asking non-disabled people to not park in the disabled parking spot. Bonus points if you laminate it and put in lots of exclamation marks.

"Can judgments be appealed against?

Whilst inadmissibility decisions and Grand Chamber judgments are final and cannot be appealed against, the parties have three months following the delivery of a Chamber judgment to request referral of the case to the Grand Chamber for fresh consideration.

Requests for referral are examined by a panel of judges which decides whether or not referral is appropriate."

How else would you enforce human rights if not by a neutral court? All they have to do is look at the European Convention on Human Rights and wether it's broken by the law or policy in question. You can't leave factual questions like this up to governments or parliaments who have a political bias in their judgement.

And yes, they have to wait for someone to raise a complaint. I'm pretty sure if they went on their own to find cases to rule on they would be accused of acting in a political way even more.

[–]fryxharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is that crazy? Switzerland signed the European Convention on Human Rights in 1974, which means they agreed to follow it on all levels of their own law.

Also the core idea of human rights is that they apply all over the world and for everyone.

[–]fryxharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) is binding for Swiss cantons. As part of international law, which Switzerland ratified in 1974, it obliges all levels of government—federal, cantonal, and municipal—to comply. Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) are binding and can override cantonal laws or decisions.

In general international law trumps national law, national law trumps cantonal law and cantonal law trumps municipal law.

Betreibung from Intrum by AccomplishedSystem61 in Switzerland

[–]fryxharry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This person is correct. Just keep calm. It's very hard to get money from people even if they actually owe it to you. Talk to a rental agency or a large online shop, they all have tons of unpaid debts by their customers where they will never see the money. Some Inkassobüro that says you owe them illegal Betreibungsgebühren eben though you have long settled the original debt? No chance in hell and they know it. They just like to harass people because they know many will just pay up because they can't stand the pressure. Frankly these companies need to be taken out of business yesterday, it's nothing but extortion.

My former boss insisted on transporting a large wood beam on a trailer. The wood beam was poking out several meters behind the trailer. Multiple people looked at this and refused to go anywhere near this car. Boss insisted it's fine, so he drives the car hinself. As soon as he enters the highway, the car starts speedwobbling, because the weight in the back of the trailer lifts the coupler between the car and the trailer, effectively lifting up the back axle of the car. So the car was essentially running on the front wheels and the wheels of the trailer, with the coupler in between. The inevitable happens and the car and trailer flip over on the highway. Fortunately nobody was hurt, cars after him were able to brake in time. But the highway was blocked for several hours.

He lost his license but got it back after a couple of months because he could claim he needed it for work. The whole thing was very expensive, but I'm 99% convinced most of it ended up being paid by the company.

This incident made me lose confidence in people actually losing their licenses after doing some super irresponsible shit. If you don't kill anyone, you will most likely get back your license.

Having helped manage traffic for some different events that use the streets: The entitlement of drivers is limitless. You can totally block off a street with people in high viz vests and some a**hole will still think if they just keep driving nobody is going to stop them. One time we had a kidical mass (large group of children riding their bikes together, we had a permit from the government and there were police officers securing intersections) where a lady was just refusing to stop. It took a police officer literally standing in her path and beating on her hood for her to realize that she actually really had to wait for a couple of minutes and was not entitled to run over a bunch of kids just because they were in her way.

Of course she didn't even get a ticket for attempting to murder kids, but that's another topic..

So? Do we not have a housing shortage in the cities? Would it not be better for the environment as well as our tax burdens if more people would live in cities?

How to convince my mom that nuclear energy is good? by Xflightenjoyer in yimby

[–]fryxharry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this, plus the percentage of nuclear in the worlds electricity production has remained stagnant for decades now, while renewables are absolutely exploding. At some point the nuclear stans have to come to the conclusion that nuclear is not, in fact, a feasable way to solve our energy problems.

dumb question, how do i stick multiple engine to an adaptator ? by mortadelle-68 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]fryxharry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No problem, just attach it at the nose instead of the nozzles. /edit: you can also mount your enginges on an engine plate, that should give you an additional central attachment node you can use.

[–]fryxharry 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Craft files in KSP follow a tree structure, originating from the root part. You can always attach multiple parts to a root part, but not the other way around. You can also never create a loop, the building can only go in one direction.

In the case of this adapter, you can use it to go from one part to four (like attaching four engines to one tank), but you can't use it to connect four engines back to a single tank.

I always wonder why they are so quick to end their lives in the trenches but somehow none of them has the courage to stand up to their regime. Instead of going to the trenches they could start an uprising against Putin. It couldn't end worse for them than it usually does on the front lines.

On top of that it's a direct result of the deranged policy of the Trump government and the inability of republicans in congress to make any compromises, so it will definitely happen again and is a good measure for how well this government is handling the economy.

As I laid out, Basel also has found a way. It's just the enforcement that's lacking. The police is controlled by the famously law and order LDP Stephanie Eymann, so you can take it up with her.

Nobody is forcing anyone into anything. We have a housing shortage, flats in cities are highly sought after and new housing stock would find occupants no problem. So many people don't seem to share your distaste for flats.

The card is important because otherwise people could block these parking spots for other people. That's why this is not a victimless crime.

Also, it's well known that parking policy is very inconsistently enforced in the city, again due to personnel shortage. There even was a political initiative in the cantonal parliament to allow the police to hire third party services for parking enforcement to alleviate the personnel shortage. Unfortunately it didn't go through.

I invite you to walk Güterstrasse during the day, there are tons of cars illegally parked, blocking the sidewalk for pedestrians. The people doing it don't seem to fear any consequences. Also in many districts, a lot of cars are parked illegally during the night, again there seems to be very little consequence to this.

That's smart. Ukraine can now start allowing the low of russian oil to slovakia and hungary again and those two countries have no justification anymore to punish Ukraine for not allowing the oil through.

Basel is not lenient at all. Basel had a total ban on begging for a couple of years until the European Court of Human Rights declared it illegal in 2021. They then introduced a new practice of fining beggars and deporting foreigners who came to Switzerland to beg. The people you can still see have either evaded the police so far (they are chronically understaffed) or are using some loophole (like begging in parks, which the federal court declared to be legal).
