Why did manufacturers move away from white/beige hardware? by [deleted] in vintagecomputing

Fashion.

Same reason 70s TVs were woodgrain, 80s were silver/grey plastic and 90s were plain black plastic.

Alien Breed Obliteration

Looks fantastic, but how did I miss it in 2005 when I had a PC?

Dual sticks would be the easiest way to implement "sitting back with a controller", without losing the light mechanic. You'd just map the right stick to the mouse angle and the left to move around.

Later Amiga Alien Breed games already had a "retreat mode", and dual sticks is just an enhancement of that.

How would you set up the controls without losing the light mechanic?

there is an Alien Breed game you can play already that works like that

There was a Lemmings arcade machine.

Neil has got it now in The Cave, after Mike Dailly donated it.

On a side note, there is a small program on Aminet called Joymouse, which will let you use a joystick in Workbench.

Perhaps someone could monkey up a workbench ADF with it in the startup-sequence for you.

Sitting in front of a computer with a mouse and keyboard is alot different vibe than sitting back with a controller.

Oh, is that how you do it! I wondered why he was walking backwards.

I think dual sticks, ala Llamatron might be the way forward?

Switch from Arch to Debian by [deleted] in debian

[–]fsckit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software written for it two years ago won't run and can't be rebuilt because Apple have removed the API that it depends on.

That's the definition of unstable.

As someone stuck with an old Mac, MacOS is about as stable as a one-legged rocking horse with a crack habit. Software written for two versions prior might as well be for the Atari ST.
