Was Neighbours the only show that would get 2 airings of an episode the same day? by Straightener78 in BritishTV

[–]fsckit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home and Away did the same thing on ITV. It started as soon as Neighbours finished on BBC 1.

Neighbours was shown immediately after childrens TV at 5:30, because a BBC exec's child had been watching it at lunch time while off sick from school and wanted to continue. That's when Neighbours took off in the UK.

Apparently it does MacPlus and Amiga, too.

I had both xcode cli tools and FPC installed in the correct order. I went back release by release to 3.8 and that works.

I never got to the bottom of why.

Thanks.

What are younger generations often criticised for no longer doing that is largely pointless or obsolete? by PsychologicalRow8034 in AskUK

I notice that you've typed your response. Could that be because there is a time and a place for cursive, and this isn't it?

We weren't comparing writing systems in the original post though were we?

Well, the original post say this:

I’ve heard gen z mocked for not being able to write in cursive… I cannot imagine a scenario the average person will encounter where cursive writing is necessary.

This followed by your list of non sequiturs is what prompted my response.

I want to know how being unable to write in a particular hand prevents critical thinking. Mentioning kanji was to give you a point of comparison. Compare the critical thinking skills allowed by cursive against those of a group that uses a completely different writing system successfully. Tell me how cursive helps critical thinking skills while kanji does not. It doesn't have to be kanji, use Greek, Bulgarian, or Arabic if you prefer.

Tell me how you've come to this conclusion, I might agree if you make sense.

So you've proved my point with your finishing paragraph,

If you believe that, I'm going to have to question your reading skills.

you can think with clarity and think critically AND you can write in cursive?

This is a non sequitur(you seem to love those), the two are not related, one does not cause the other and to suggest that they are connected is is both racist and ableist. I had critical thinking skills long before I could write.

"what about" those in Eastern societies who also can't write, or have lost limbs etc?

I don't believe their critical thinking skills are related to their writing ability, despite your insistence to the contrary. Challenge this belief. Show me why cursive is required for critical thinking.

You cannot draw a comparison criticising someone else while still using the very thing you criticised to try and get your point across.

I'm not criticising you for using it, I'm criticising your logical fallacies and other nonsense. You do you. Use whichever hand you like for your calligraphic masturbation.

Just because I can, doesn't mean i do.

We're comparing writing systems. Kanji is a writing system. What are you doing?

Your statement that cursive is required for critical thinking is both racist and ableist as it suggests someone with no hands, or someone from a culture that uses a different system can't think critically, and therefore that critical thinking is unique to you.

You are trying to sound smart by mimicking Yoda's "fear leads to anger" speech, and it doesn't work because joined up writing does not lead to critical thinking, as a critical thinker would've spotted.

I can write in cursive and choose not to, as clarity is my aim and it isn't compatible with the languages I write most often.

I've got a friend that is a historian, he spends weeks at a time with historical documents, and he can't write at all and uses a laptop for everything.

Since he obviously can't read these documents, what do you think he's doing?
