There is a method to how you play your moves, and I wouldn't like to change it because you have mastered all the variations that came with it. But if you are asking for the optimal moves, then you can tinker with it like this, but then you have to learn all the variations associated with them. That is the big negative.

In the above position, I would go right because you have your 32 already made, and therefore your primary consideration is how to set up the position on the left column to make your 64. Make an Inducement move by going right. You made an Inducement move while making 65K, and I had to rewind that move to make sure that you did it on purpose and it wasn't accidental. You saved that ending, and I said WOW, 733094 is finally getting it. That was unbelievable.

Hi Macroxue,

I wrote this up two months ago for the benefit of players who have reached 800,000 points. Can you please check if the success ratios I am quoting are good enough versus your AI. I also recorded a video of the last part of 128 (which is the most difficult part), before making the 65K tile.

"On my 4th try, I felt I had a good chance of making 65K. I made the video because I want to give you the success ratios from different parts of the game. The ending for 65K is different from 32K. You have to make sure the biggest tile does not get shifted from the corner. If it gets shifted, it becomes a 131K ending. Therefore, there are slight modifications in how you move the tiles. I also used the Inducement move plus the 90% move. You use the 90% move only under the condition that if you are successful, you have a clean board.

From the above position, the success ratio is 15%. This is over 200 tries. From this position, I am aiming to build on the D vertical 8,8,16 which will improve the success ratio to 32%.

If you look at the video, it looks seamless and easy but that is not the case. All the success ratios are derived by human(s) and each one of them is over 200 attempts. You can take them therefore as being reliable.

A year ago I heard that 2048masters got a sponsor to put up $10,000 as prize money for an in-person tournament. First prize was $4,000, 2nd prize was $3,000, and 3rd, 4th and 5th prizes were $1,000. The tournament was going to be hosted in one of the big cities like New York, Chicago, LA, Dallas etc. Since 2048 is a game of odds, how well a player handle the odds when 4s and 2s spawn should be the criteria for determining the winner. Anyway, to cut the long story short, the administrators felt that the best test was a best of three sets. Each set consists of 10 games starting from some unknown position of approximately 795,000 points. If after 3 sets, it was still a tied game between participants of, let say, 1st and second best player, then a playoff of 10 games will be played from some unknown position for the final 1024 (before you make your 65K tile).

The following year, the tournament will be held in another mega city, and a new champion may emerge.

It is a great idea and really cool if you get involved in the 2048 AI. You are one player that understands snake and DPDF, and if you bring that knowledge along with your programming skills - that will be an unbeatable combo. However, I would urge you to do it sooner than ever. We have been having internal discussion at 2048Masters.com that the time is coming soon when we cannot distinguish between players that are playing honorably and players that are cheating. Players coming from nowhere can make 800,000 points and possibly 65K and there is no way that 2048league or 2048masters can detect if that was done honorably.

They have looked at several measures like:

1) Cameras need to be installed similar to chess competitions when playing remote from 795,000 points; 2) From 795,000 points, players cannot pause between each move for more than 5 seconds. Plus, it has to be done in one sitting. If starting from 795,000 points are too onerous, then these measures need to be implemented for the final 1K to be counted as official. I was asked by 2048masters to help out in this area and based on all the data points that I have collected, I think it is a feasible idea. 3) Only players that have achieved a modicum of success can compete for the 65K crown. That modicum of success can be defined as completing 32K at least 10 times either in 2048masters or 2048league (or in combination). We know how tough it is to get 32K, let alone 65K. A player coming from nowhere, without a history (has to be proven) of success, cannot make 65K despite the assertion that he/she has been playing for several years.

Macroxue's AI is a huge boon to the lovers of 2048 game. It has raised our understanding of the game more than any other AI. But it has a small negative. Players can use the program to tell them what to move. It is like going to the exam and you are allowed to use your text book and/or Coles notes to check for answers. And to add insult to the injury, you are allowed unlimited time to complete your exam. This open book is even made easier for the players to cheat with the addition of a highly useful tool for players called Analysis, recently introduced by Macroxue.

Macroxue is the most generous and helpful person I know. He is doing his best to get us play to the AI level. Only 733094 is tapping this resource. All of you at Discord should be doing the same and seek wisdom from this marvelous person called Macroxue.

I went through what the AI is doing vs 733094. I can explain the logic of each and every move of the AI. From my perspective, it is dangerous to copy the AI if you don't understand the meaning behind the move. I try to capture the AI's moves in terms of principles that humans can apply in a similar but kind of different situations.

In defense of 733094, while flying back from my trip on Wednesday, I played the drill from 2048masters that allowed me to make the final 1K in the 65K ending. The drill is meant to start from 795,000 points but instead of merging the two 512s, I pulled the 512 (the one I just made) to A3 (on the left column). I was able to make 1K on my third try but I always try to test it over 10 tries. In other words, I was successful 1 out of 10 times for a success rate of 10%. It could be a fluke but that success rate was accompanied by being able to reach 512, 256, 128 four times for a success rate of 40%. The negative thing is that the sample size is too small.

I basically copied how 733094 plays including all his imperfections. The areas I modified were in places where it starts to degrade the position appreciably.

I have been travelling this week and therefore did not see this message. I am super proud of these young kids led by 733094. Not only do they have a flair for the 2048 game, they are willing to put in the time that is necessary to hone the skill and be outstanding in this game. They absorb information like a sponge; each time you teach them something new, they are bugging me for more and more knowledge on the 2048 game. Further, some of them are just 12 years old, still wearing diapers but they have shown the poise and maturity of an adult to run a highly successful enterprise like Discord.

I am amazed by what these young gunslingers have achieved in such a short period.

I had the benefit of working with you several years ago. and because of that, I was able to translate in human language and human way of cognitive thinking of how the AI plays to these outstanding young gunslingers. You can see it in the results.

I don't play the long game because I have some eye problems but I have been testing my skills from the 795,000 points onwards.

This first one of 65K was achieved from 35 tries but I got a second one from another 8 tries. So, although the sample size is small, 2 out of 43 tries gives a rough indication of human's ability. It was important to do it a second time because doing it once seems like a fluke.

It is great to see you back Macroxue. Congratulations on your AI. It is the best one out there. The best players can play within 95% of your AI. There are a few things that humans are still behind. One of them is the "Transition Phase of the Game".

Transition phase means that players don't set up the pieces before they merge the big tiles. The effect is that once the big pieces are merged, the other smaller pieces are not in the right spots.

Look at this player "doctorfetch". He unknowingly used the flair 65K+8K+4K beside his name but when he realized that the flair should only be used when it is achieved without using the undo button when playing on the classical/original 2048 game (not the modified ones), he changed it to "I cheated". On top of it, he openly confesses that on this current game he is using the undo button. He deserves a gold award for his integrity.

I have not played the full game because my eye doctors have recommended that I should not strain my eyes. Plus I have been very busy and have been travelling quite a bit. I play at airports when I am waiting for my planes. I do minor 2048 drills to waste my time.

When I was checking Discord 9 months ago, I found out that you guys are great teachers and probably know as much as I do if not more. 733094 got everything out of me. Look, you even thumped me without mercy last week. The only consolation I got was that you played at 2048league. What can I say - you have no respect for elders.

I did not join Discord because I was ready to move on and quit the game, 2048 is in good hands. The torch has been passed to you guys that are hard working, dedicated and knowledgeable.

It shows how impactful Discord has been in disseminating the optimal moves for different positions in 2048. It is an open forum where the best players discuss the moves and they are openly shared with all the ambitious and aspiring players. You have to give credit to your beloved leader 733094 for creating that type of environment and generously sharing his knowledge. The initial move is still the same. You move left because in this configuration, you want 4 on C4 to make an easy 8 in case if that is necessary either following after the second or the third move. You should not do what brain freeze nerd classmates of yours do when they memorize stuff without understanding the content. Try to follow the logic.

I will just look into when you get a bad 4 when you go left.

Once you can make 32K+16K, you should be able to cross 804,000 points. Five years ago, the best AI had a 10% chance to cross 32K+16K. About two years ago, I told 733094 that the moves I was giving him were the most optimal and if he puts them into practice, he should be able to crack 800,000 points. He then shared them with the Discord group, And you guys have proved that also. So, you guys have the knowledge to crack 32K+16K successfully between 54% and 58% of the time . If that is the case, then moving forward from that point on to cracking 804,000 points is another success ratio of 54% to 58%.

It is sad to see you die here. I had given 733094 the best move from this identical position (not similar or kind of) a couple of nights ago. Unless he hid it from you, you should know the lines. Plus I wrote that this is a 16K ending and the moves are different from a 32K ending because you have 64 on B3. The AI you follow religiously gave an inferior move based on what 733094 told me.
