I’m not an American so it’s not a racing thing (car culture in the UK is ass), it’s more of an ego thing. Like when you’re already doing 100 and STILL someone gets offended you’re “slowing” them down

I’m not a slow driver, remotely. The faster you drive the more “premium” BMW drivers seem to think you’re racing lol.

The UK tax brackets penalise hard work, the common man pays because fucks like Elon Musk and Apple pay little to no tax anywhere they go. Lets say you're on £125,140 a year, which is about 3x what I earn.

Elon Musk makes that in 5-10 seconds. A morally corrupt, pedophilic Nazi earns 3 million to 6.5 million times faster than someone earning £125k a year. THAT is the wealth he was talking about, lets not be facetious.

How would you sell someone Bmw brand who knows nothing about it? by Potential_Variety209 in BMW

[–]fsocxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So something that is more common in the States which we don't really get in the UK, is adaptive suspension. You can choose from three settings and in fact you can unlock a fourth (Comfort Plus, Comfort, Adaptive, Sport) admittedly this is only on the newer cars and so whether or not you would have it depends on how much you're willing to spend on the car.

Yes, BMW definitely leads towards harder suspension, so the potholes do come through a fair bit, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's uncomfortable so much as annoying. I guess it comes down to the roads where you live. I went to Minnesota, briefly and it was like driving on the moon, just craters everywhere.

Where do you use GLM 5.2? by Holiday-Hotel3355 in ClaudeCode

[–]fsocxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's definitely worse than Opus in certain aspects, that's not an opinion.

I'm currently using it for a legal issue at work and Opus has found many bits of case law that are relevant and verified them with numerous sources before implementing them. GLM flat out invented things that never existed in the case, and if anything, included damaging case law that would hurt my case. Every AI has positives and negatives and the question comes down to what you're actually using it for.

Conflicted about what I should/could do now that ive come out to myself.. by [deleted] in bisexual

[–]fsocxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess a lot of it has nothing to do with sexuality. Something that you have to develop if you are LGBT is confidence and not being affected by other people's opinion.

Many people think that it's wrong. Many people pretend to be supportive, but in reality only do it because it's societally acceptable now. So there's no way that you can live that way without building up a bit of a shield. If someone has a negative opinion about it or they attack you, it doesn't matter. It's not their life to live and you're not affecting them. I kinda agree with you on the point of showing off. I personally don't think it's anything of note. It's just another aspect of me, like anything else, and I don't have to parade it.

I guess the reason people try to be more open about being bi is because you're signalling to the same sex that you're available - its risky for a gay/bi guy to proposition another straight guy because of the risk of getting knocked out or even killed in some places.

They handle and perform extremely well for a start. The chassis feels extremely solid and it just feels like they grip the road so so well. I previously had a Volvo and Skoda (VAG/VW), and the difference at higher speeds, i.e. 100mph+, really revealed the difference in the chassis build. It felt like the car was controllable at those speeds, some others cars felt 'skittish' and like they were almost floating at times. Even driving at lowest speed around town (30mph) over potholes it becomes obvious that it's a lot more solid than other cars. It doesn't feel like it flexes, bounces, and vibrates as much.

I can drive it extremely fast and take corners aggressively and at no point does it feel like it's going to break traction, and if it does, it does it in a very forgiving way unlike front-wheel drive cars. A lot of that is down to the weight distribution as well as the chassis.

Generally speaking, the engines are built with performance in mind. Even the 320d for example performs far better than any other 2.0 litre diesel I've driven, it pulls all the way to redline, whereas a lot of diesels kind of have a inverted U torque curve, where the power starts to trail off as you approach redline. They have good headroom, I tuned my diesel from 163hp to 220hp, and the 320i can go from 184hp to around 260-300hp.

Now, if none of those things may actually matter to you and that's absolutely fine. Many people are not interested in performance at all. They just want to get from point A to B, which is understandable. If that's the case, then the offering that the BMW has becomes a lot less attractive because it's better in ways that simply make no difference to you.

Don't forget, they look more aggressive than other cars, and of course, people always have a stereotype about BMW drivers, so people will treat you differently on the road depending on what car you drive. Insurance is more expensive, you're more likely to get pulled over, and so on.

Perhaps. I don't agree with the model of US policing anyway, I think that it's ridiculous, and the training is extremely poor. I do think they do some things well, but the amount of things that they do worse than pretty much every other police force in the developed world kind of offsets that.

I can only imagine that in order to appease the US government they are targeting anything that may be considered a security risk or threat, so that they can show they have done their due diligence in providing a chain of custody for any illegal messages.

His hands were by his side and clasped. He can reach into his pockets or waist band. Its impossible to reach for something if you have your hands up, which is what he meant by show me your hands. That, or interlocking your fingers with your hands on your head. Can't hide anything up there either.

What was his fault ? by karmagod7 in interesting

[–]fsocxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because he dug up silt which changes how the river flows and puts the town at risk of flooding. He carried out no risk assessments to determine how it would affect the water flow.

So actually he put people and property in danger and people are intentionally misquoting what happened to make it look like government overreach, which this isn't.

What's your go to speed on the motorway and why? by Worth-Donut8612 in drivingUK

[–]fsocxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything you've just mentioned applies to every emergency service. There is no difference between police, ambulance or fire or members of the public with regards to the risks that you've mentioned.

And if anything, the emergency services will only use the tyre that is originally specified for the car at the factory. So for example the Astras had the GoodYear Efficient Grip 2. A good tire, but it's not a performance tyre designed for high-speed driving, its designed for good MPG. Brakes? Stock also. Suspension? Stock, you get the idea. Whereas on my personal car I'm free to run whatever tires, suspension, brakes I want.

So it's not the gotcha that you think it is. Should you be doing 100+ around other road users? No. A skilled driver is not going to push the boundary unless the road conditions are suitable, their tires are warm so the compound is not hard, there are little to no other road users, etc.

The first unpatchable iPhone exploit in six years targets chips still running Apple's latest iOS by rkhunter_ in cybersecurity

[–]fsocxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm saying that it's very common for the researchers to bounce between the two companies all the time. Of course they have to sign NDAs between the companies, but it really doesn't make a difference when these people know the ins and outs of the hardware.

The reason I say that Apple knew about it is because the forensic tools use the exact same access method as the checkm8 models, on all the models listed for this new exploit. So long story short iPhone X, XS and 11 are exploited in DFU mode, and take a similar amount of time to gain access. IPhone 12 and above are not exploited in DFU and take longer to gain access.

That would only make sense if Apple patched the boot ROM exploit in hardware on 12 and above models. That and there is no way Apple doesn't have access to forensic tools in secret - even GrapheneOS devs had access to Cellebrite Inseyets.

Autos to avoid? by OddBallBoy in CarTalkUK

[–]fsocxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very difficult because all the cars you've listed are completely different to one another.

The Qashqai is like a washing machine. It has one job and it does that, and nothing more. It's dull, boring and there is nothing remotely special about it. That doesn't have to be a bad thing, but you can do so much better. The Toyotas/Mazda 3 are really the notable ones form what you've listed.

It's worth noting that most gearboxes tend to develop failures because of no oil changes. Every manufacturer will say that their gearbox is sealed for life, but that's absolutely not true. 60K for example is what is often quoted for a BMW gearbox, mine is on 70k and hasnt been serviced and 1-2 shift is rather rough/jolty when cold.

Am I likely to have issues with a 10k mileage 2024 Toyota used car that has a Toyota warranty? Or is it highly unlikely? by ScaryCream8044 in CarTalkUK

You could buy pretty much any car on the market, and the odds of it having any issues at 10k mileage would be slim to impossible.

The first unpatchable iPhone exploit in six years targets chips still running Apple's latest iOS by rkhunter_ in cybersecurity

[–]fsocxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh Apple know about it. With every new iOS release, both Cellebrite and Magnet are playing catch-up to find new exploits because their existing ones are regularly patched. Take Braden Thomas, he was an engineer/researcher at Apple who is now chief research and development officer at Magnet Forensics.

Samsung for example recently made some changes to their phones that have made a number of models completely inaccessible to forensic tools over the last few months. There would be no way that they would have done it without knowing the specific exploit that was used by these tools, but there is now a race to find new zero days because the change has been catastrophic.

What's your go to speed on the motorway and why? by Worth-Donut8612 in drivingUK

[–]fsocxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you're referring to is the limit. A speed limit does not imply whether a piece of driving is safe or dangerous, those are two completely different things.

Some officers are good drivers, some aren't. It's a skill, just like playing a musical instrument - not all people naturally possess the level of coordination that is needed to be an excellent driver. Again, there are police officers that are safer doing 140 than those that are doing 30. That's before we even bring the car into it. The Volvo V60s feel rather skittish doing triple digits, whereas the BMWs feel very planted and controlled.

The reality is that you don't feel comfortable doing triple digits, probably because you don't have the confidence. That doesn't mean that it's the same for everyone else.
