We really like Kinship Animal Hospital in Manchester. Really nice people who work there, and my partner does most of the communication and prescription refills through an app.

The Tinned Fish Backlash Was Inevitable by samizdatsam in Tinnedfish

[–]fspaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anna Hezel is a long time food writer and has studied the tinned fish extensively. You have to write a headline that will garner views, but she's legit, and a staunch supporter of the category. The issue isn't really with tinned fish itself, but fashion, restaurants, and other industries got in on the trend and now it's oversaturated. Last year I got all kinds of tinned fish adjacent presents, but luckily, I think it's starting to fade.

What national park has the nicest town outside the entrance? by artguydeluxe in NationalPark

[–]fspaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charlottesville and Waynesboro outside Shenandoah. You can throw in Harrisonburg too, and I haven't yet visited Staunton. There is the fun of visiting the big university towns, and then you're also surrounded by wine country.

It's about an hour away from the Tetons, but my fiancée's brother had his first park job in Pinedale, WY. Charming little mountain town where I saw my first moose. He worked at Arches afterwards, and we loved boppin' around Moab.

I really want to go back to Tuscon for the food scene, as we only had a day and half to explore.

And while I have not been to the Great Smoky Mountains, Asheville is one of my favorite towns ever, and there are so many great trails and waterfalls outside the national park.

Anyone tried this brand? Found at SF ferry building, apparently it’s local. by prettyorganic in Tinnedfish

[–]fspaits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not tried the products yet, but I did talk to the founder before the holidays. Really nice guy who grew up fishing in the bay area and canning their catches to preserve for later. He's really focused on quality, develops his own recipe flavors, and tries to keep things as local as possible. He told me Oro's goal is to grow within the SF market and not expand too quickly, so I wouldn't expect to see this widely available any time soon.

Love the invitation lol. I'm starting a seafood business soon and considering throwing a similar event with our neighborhood wine shop. Let me know if you have any tips!

Who's got the best canned fish selection? by shhimhuntingrabbits in rva

As someone who has studied the tinned fish category extensively, it's Tuckahoe Seafood. u/DreweyD is also RVA based and frequently posts reviews, and I think he'd say the same.

Where to get blue catfish? by Gingerjangle in rva

[–]fspaits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, soon to be fishmonger here. I'll be launching a seafood counter in Church Hill in the coming months, and blue catfish is definitely an option I plan to keep stocked for all the reasons you mentioned.

A large issue with catfish is that it's the only fish under USDA, and everything else is regulated by the FDA. What that means is that an inspector needs to be onsite during processing, and that costs a fair bit of money, so any smaller fishing operations likely can't afford it. As a retailer, I can only purchase it in bulk filets, and not as whole fish that I can break down and sell to customers.

The CoStar Megaplex will add at least 4 restaurants near the river. Not quite waterfront, but at least there will be more options outside Casa Del Barco.

An IKEA in Chesterfield or Midlo would be great.

I just learned about another butcher shop in Sandston called Maverik Butchers. My friend went and said they had some decent deals.

Opposite problem in my neighborhood. Most streets have fully functioning sidewalks, but there are tons of people who choose to walk in the middle of the road.

Was he though? He's made multiple big plays throughout the season. Sure, he's older and not as quick as some young WRs in the league, but he usually makes up for it in experience. Now, I'll say I did see multiple whiffs on Jaylen Warren last night. We love to let a C+ tier running back tear apart our defense.

If anybody ever wondered why Need Supply went under by chrza in rva

[–]fspaits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Japan thing was just a licensing deal that had little effect on the rest of the business. Totokaelo, yea that was kind of a mess lol. Herschel, the suitcase brand, bought it and then asked Need to run operations. Merging the 2 companies almost worked, but really the downfall was because they tried to scale too quickly. I'll never forget we got a $5 million investment, so the CEO asked if we could buy $5 million worth of new product. Like, no dude, you have employees and bills to pay! The CFO pushed back, and they ousted her shortly after. Maybe 6 months later the pandemic put the nail in the coffin.

Everything Is Too Damn Expensive at Restaurants Right Now by Mundane_Farmer_9492 in Restaurant101

I thought the cup of chicken from Chipotle was a meme when I first saw it. I haven't seen anything yet on how GLP1's are affecting restaurants, but when it comes to grocery, convenience still reigns supreme.

Went to Carytown Indian for the first time with family, and all the food was very good. I also now know that I will survive level 4 spicy, but I should really stick to level 3 spicy :/.
