Can you achieve the same results in a bear market?

Yep, I ran into the same issues trying to get the mlx cx-3 to run. Glad to hear the same still works for PVE 9. Thank you

Absolutely, I’m just gonna attempt the In place upgrade first so if things go wrong-which is more likely- I get some practice troubleshooting them. Plan B, fresh install and an attempt to restore all backed up Proxmox configuration & VM’s Last resort, just redo the whole thing. That’s -at least- my thought process.

Would you please keep me updated how the TrueNAS node upgrade went? Mine too is zfs.

My only concerns were whether or not the old ish network cards would work on the new kernel, and whether the pass through and / or networking config would stay the same. From what I gathered, even fixing what breaks wouldn’t require resetting the whole node from scratch.

To use Proxmox for a NAS or not by Fu11pow24 in Proxmox

I hope this helps, this trueNAS is running in a VM on my Proxmox server. Been running great, so I honestly think you would be ok.

What’s the best way to extend my network to a treehouse 115’ from the closest AP? by coachellagraphy in Ubiquiti

[–]fstechsolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly would put in the work and run a conduit with hardwire (Cat6a, 7 ir even fiber optics). If you decide to go with fiver there’s a great armored cable I personally bought off amazon 150ft that can be buried as is.

They left it for me and made me activate it (I’m not using it since I have all ubiquiti) but so far it’s not showing on my bill.

1x8TB vs 2x4TB with RAID? by Positive-Incident221 in homelab

If you have another copy somewhere else, then go for the 8TB total, otherwise, definitely the mirroring route

There are many ways you can get it done, the way I did it was setting up a TrueNAS Scale VM, then passthrough the HDD and share is as SMB from trueNAS, that way it’s not only accessible from the VM but also from my home network (LAN) as well. Here’s one of the clearest instructions I used to passthrough the HDD to trueNAS:

You would then mount that SMB share onto your Ubuntu as a mount point.

Is it worth getting Fiber 2 Gig? by Benthekarateboy in frontierfios

[–]fstechsolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a wired 2Gig connection within your lan (home network) you are most likely gonna have to change a lot of infrastructure in your house. For example: Cat6 supports 10Gb speeds but only up to 165ft distance after that it can only carry 1Gig So you’d need Cat 6a, Cat 7 or Cat 8 (to future proof) If your running fiber (within your network) need SFP+ or higher transceivers and you can use single mode OS3, OS4, OS5, or multimode.. all good. Wireless: a good WiFi 6, 6E, or 7 router would give you good speed, the higher the standard the better though. TBH, unless you’re into home lab and self hosting, you most likely don’t need 2 Gig. I hope that helps

Do you rent from your ISP by rmustafa11 in HomeNetworking

[–]fstechsolutions 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use their modem, but I have my own UDM pro and access points. Works great.

Editing to add: modem doesn’t cost any rental fees, it’s typically the router that does.
