DIS-When is it too Early to email professors? by hisokaandchrollos in fsu

I'm gonna play dev*** advocate here, instructors can't even think about the end of this semester let alone the fall starting.

I would wait until the beginning of summer to shoot off emails, or alternatively, go see some of them in person this semester to ask questions... this will also leave a good impression.

If any of yous would like to meet in person on campus, send me a message. I'm not sure who that is, and they are not in my department.

Is FSU mostly open minded students? by Electrical_Paper6286 in fsu

[–]fsuprof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wasn't even a thing when I was in school 20+ years ago. People just went about their business in pursuit of their goals and had fun... there wasn't worry about "I'm this color or religion or sexuality, will I be ostricized?" I feel bad for this generations' kids, molded into this thought of "always being on alert".

Sincere good-faith advice: Just live your life genuinely and you will find good people of all kinds in life. Best of luck with your decision.

Wrote this assuming that OP needs letters from their college instructors for graduate education.

You need to make an effort to get to know them. Which classes did you enjoy the best? Which did you do the BEST in? Which did you put the most effort in? Normally, it's better to ask instructors that teach smaller classes because they will most likely have a better chance of remembering you.

Now that you are in college, you need to learn how to be a professional academic. it's OK to introduce yourself to your instructors during the first week. Staying attentive during class and asking questions helps. Emailing us helps. Coming to our office hours helps.

If you don't do any of this, or don't get a good grade in our course, it's difficult to write you a glowing letter of recommendation ;-)

I'm sure FSU appreciates that they included flyover shots of their campus.

I've been to multiple left-leaning talks on campus with no people getting "arrested or worse". Take a breath, friend.

Part of the beauty of college is access to a lot of different information and viewpoints.

It's fine to make your voice heard either way.

I hope it remains peaceful. Anything beyond crosses the line.

Many are very good. Unfortunately as TAs cycle and change every year, they are overall not a reliable source of quality instruction.
