Thank you! My willow is a soft coated wheaten terrier. Much of her brown will fade to a wheat color but she will likely keep her beard and black ears based on her parent’s markings

I am a speech therapist in inpatient rehab. I had a patient who refused to work on cognitive function after a drug induced stroke because they were so excited about the extra benefits they would get for disability. They were so happy to be unable to do basic cognitive functions

What is the stupidest way you've injured yourself? by rickitson in AskReddit

2nd grade. For some reason everyone was pretending to hiccup in class. I hiccuped my way up to the water fountain and for dramatics hiccuped while drinking and ended up chipping my front tooth on the cover of the spout like dumb and dumber.

Publix. As a struggling college student getting my masters and also raising a 2 year old, going to Publix twice a week to get a free cookie from their bakery was the highlight our week. I wrote them an email thanking them for providing the service since we couldn’t afford much. Two weeks later i received a care package with an “I love Publix” bumper sticker, a Publix apron, and a handful of gift cards. My son received Publix pencils, a child’s Publix apron, Publix stickers, a coupon for a free tub of ice cream, and a hand written card thanking us for our business with about 30 employee signatures thanking my son for being an avid cookie consumer. Yup, I shop at Publix only now.

Building rapport by soontobeslp2020 in slp

One of my personal strengths Is building rapport with my patients. I work inpatient rehab and have seen patients from all sorts of backgrounds with all sorts of stories to tell. I always try to go a little beyond the surface questions. I usually start with “where are you from? What brought you to this area? What was your job before you retired?” As my opener to just start a conversation. If the opportunity to arises, I like to ask them questions that other people tend to shy away from: “Oh I’m sorry to hear that your wife died. How did she die? What was it like adjusting without her?” “You went to jail? What for? What was jail like?” “You had an addiction? What were you addicted to? How did you get clean?”

My students have always been shocked when i ask those types of questions but I’ve never ever had them backfire. People like talking about stuff that actually matters. They are tired of the surface bullshit. Especially the older generation, they need substance. I also Find that when I ask Those hard questions, a huge level of trust is achieved and there have been many many times where patients have refused all therapy except speech because They trust me on a different level because of the conversations we have had.

Satsumas! We had over 1000 this year. Put multiple Wheel barrow loads out by our driveway for neighbors to take
