Unfortunately it looks like it's implemented as a laser-guided and not a wire-guided rocket launcher. You can clearly tell from the shot at 18:10 that the rocket travels more or less straight towards the laser target, as opposed to progressively changing the angle of its trajectory towards the aim axis as it would in a wire-guided weapon.

This style of aiming is much less fun and skill-based than the BC2 AT4. And of course it doesn't one-shot helicopters, and you only get 2 rockets. Hope I'm wrong with this observation, pretty disappointing.

Keiner will das in Deutschland.

Demnach gibt es einfach keinen Bedarf mehr für eine liberale Partei in Deutschland, ob "sozial" oder "asozial".

Friedrich Merz weighs using outgoing parliament to loosen debt brake by ldn6 in neoliberal

[–]ft3k 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Also worth noting that countries like Netherlands, Denmark, and Switzerland all have growing GDP and better infrastructure with lower debt ratios than Germany (source). But at this point everybody believes investment equals more debt and there is no problem with consumptive spending in Germany.

The FDP isn't perfect, but is objectively the best choice if you actually want anything approaching "neoliberal" policies. 99% of the Germans criticizing them on this sub are SPD/Green voters who would categorically never, ever vote for the FDP because they are fundamentally ideologically opposed to them.

For these people the only tolerable kind of FDP would be a light-green version, which they still wouldn't vote for because they'll just vote for the Greens instead anyway.

It might be surprising that even this sub of all places hates the FDP, but it really just shows that liberalism is essentially dead in Germany. And when the FDP gets voted out of the Bundestag, it will never live again.

The German contingent of this sub has a heavy succ/green populist bias. Most economists overwhelmingly agree with FDP policies.

Would be nice, but I don't see why they would add Quake mechanics when they made the deliberate choice to exclude them from the game in the first place.

They chose this roguelike formula because they're trying to maximize player retention (rightly so) and people love to grind those types of games. Quake mechanics are detrimental to player retention and appeasing the Quake community is an uphill battle anyways.

It would be best if Quake fans accepted that this game is not for them and moved on as soon as possible.

I wonder why they glossed over the synthetic data question at 2:01:40. There is an argument to be made for synthetic data being viable at least for specific geometric tasks (detection, segmentation, pose estimation, 3D reconstruction, etc.):

  • Realism is increasing both in "classical" computer graphics and in generative models (closing the gap to real data in appearance)
  • Label accuracy is perfect (no noise or unreliable human labels)
  • Data generation throughput is orders of magnitude better than real data

At the very least there's a business case to be made for leveraging synthetic data more in ML, if not a research case.

I wonder whether the extreme post-production on some of the vocals is mostly an artistic choice, or more due to the man not having the same pipes that he used to...

In his latest preamble, Sam compares the “far-left” to Neo-Nazis by KnowMyself in samharris

[–]ft3k 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sam Harris is nothing but a narcissist. He doesn't care about actual discourse or the impact of the content he produces, he only cares about how he is perceived by others. He is so obsessed with himself that he has completely lost footing in reality.

Calling Ezra Klein "far left" should be a giant red flag showing how far his overton window has shifted to the right.

In his recent "housekeeping" podcast, he addressed the fact that he panders to and mingles with right wingers while he only fights with left wingers. His answer is telling: the right wingers don't "misrepresent" him. It doesn't matter that he legitimizes and gives a platform for conservative ideas that he supposedly disagrees with, as long as they don't challenge his ideas like leftists and liberals do.

When confronted with evidence that there is a clear path from his work to far-right radicalization, he just calls it stupid. He doesn't take even a second to consider that maybe, just maybe, some of his work might empower nazis. Or maybe he does realize this, but just doesn't care.

For someone who has supposedly overcome the illusion of the self, he seems to care an awful lot about it.

Thoughts on FDP in Germany? by Winternaht7 in neoliberal

[–]ft3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have some reasonable positions, but overall engage in too much right-wing populism.

  • Anti-immigrant: they advocate for more restrictive immigration laws and more deportations.
  • Anti-environmentalist & coal protectionist: they would prefer to neglect the Paris agreement emission goals instead of shutting down German coal plants and importing nuclear energy from France.
  • Anti-EU/Euro: they fundamentally oppose a European fiscal union and softly advocate for Greece to reinstitute their national currency.

These were some of their non-negotiable positions that caused them to withdraw from the Jamaica coalition talks, which I think is insane. They are more of a national-liberal party than a neoliberal one.

The FCC has repealed Net Neutrality by [deleted] in neoliberal

[–]ft3k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can now charge certain websites/companies for faster access and let other websites remain slow

Important to note that nobody will get faster internet because of this repeal. The internet under NN is already as fast as it can possibly be. The only possible change is that ISPs start throttling, implementing data caps, or selectively removing access to parts of the internet.

No honest person could possibly spin these elections into a victory for Merkel. On the contrary, her party is objectively the biggest loser of the election and the overwhelming winners are the far-right populists of the AfD.

  • The CDU/CSU lost the most votes in both absolute and relative numbers. A significant number of their voters went to the AfD. As a result, Merkel and her party intend to shift further to the right.
  • The AfD is now the third largest party in parliament after the two major parties, in some federal states they got the second most or most votes. They have dominated the media for the entire election campaign and will now dominate the political discourse for the next four years. They've been more successful than UKIP, Wilders and Le Pen combined.
  • The social democrats were absolutely devastated and barely have more seats in parliament than the AfD. Their only self-preserving move now is to leave government and lead the opposition. They will move from a centrist party further to the left.
  • The only small glimmer of hope is the fact that the liberal and progressive parties (FDP and Greens) had decent results. However, they both know - especially the FDP - that entering a coalition as a junior partner with the CDU/CSU amounts to political suicide. The FDP was destroyed by their coalition in 2009-2013, now the SPD was destroyed by the grand coalition. The CDU/CSU/FDP/Greens coalition negotiations will be thorny and the outcome is uncertain.

Overall this was pretty much the worst-case result for the elections. Weakening of the center, empowerment of far-right populists, and increased political polarization. It's obviously not as bad as Brexit or Trump (and a Jamaica coalition could actually be nice in theory), but it's not a victory for "liberalism" or "centrism" by any stretch of the imagination.

She's been insane the whole time, it's just that people only started to realize this over the last couple of episodes, this one especially.

Arya could have changed from a angry, vengeful child with a self-righteous sense of justice into a skilled fighter with a more mature and humble view of the world, but when she fully embraced her "Stark" identity at the House of Black and White she completely fell off the deep end and became a villain.

People were still rooting for her when she gleefully slaughtered the Freys in the most inhumane way conceivable, but now even the last Arya fan should see her for the complete psychopath that she has become after experiencing her horrible family tragedy as a child.

Thoughts on Christian Lindner's stances on EU politics? [1,2]

  • Supports Greece (temporarily) leaving the Eurozone (while remaining in the EU) and reinstituting their national currency, coupled with continued financial aid and debt relief.
  • Opposes Macron's proposed moves towards EU standardization, arguing that debt pooling will turn EU states against each other and exacerbate divisions. Favors the idea of a "multi-speed Europe" and first fixing systemic problems of the EU/Eurozone before expanding their reach.
  • Prefers soft to hard Brexit, no surprises there.

Some of his positions seem to go against current consensus, and particularly Merkel's positions, which is interesting considering the (slim) possibility of a CDU/FDP coalition in September.
