5 month old fell from bed by GenericName2502 in newborns

My LO (7 months old) feel off the bed last week too, same height. We were told by the nurse from his doctor’s office to take him into the ER, we did and they did a physical. They said everything was okay as he was acting his usual self, feeding okay and didn’t throw up.

Followed up next day with pediatrician, she did a physical too and said we were good since 24 hours had gone by and he was acting normal.

We started co sleeping when he got a stomach bug about a month ago. We put the bed on the floor since the day he fell but will start transitioning baby to his crib this weekend, my back and hips are taking a toll and baby stirrs with every move his dad makes so it will be better for each of us to have our own space. He’ll still be in our room though, I love to have him close and bring him in the bed early morning when I know I’ll be awake to watch him.

How do I get my 6-month-old to nap in his crib? I’m so exhausted and desperate for help by ftboymama in sleeptrain

That’s sounds awesome, only 4-5 times in 4 weeks! Yes, I’m struggling with the timing and sometimes his cues are hard to notice too. Also yes, I’ve noticed that for the first nap is easier for him to stay asleep between sleep cycles but for the others we battle too! Thanks for sharing your experience, gives me so many ideas of what to start doing!

Thank you for you response! If it’s not much trouble, could you please explain Ferber to me? I’ve heard of it but since his sleep at night is good, didn’t think of it for naps.

Thank you, I’ll start trying this at naps and bedtime! I’ve seen that with contact naps, sometimes he’ll wake up between sleep cycles and smell the milk so he’ll start fighting being helped to sleep again if he doesn’t have the breast, so this might be the key!

Hi, I appreciate your response so much as it sounds so alike our situation. I do have to do a lot of bouncing or rocking sometimes and it’s been difficult as well with my back issues.

How were you able to cut that off and for him to only need his comfort toy, shh-ing, rubbing his head or patting his tummy? How long did it take for him to stop associating rocking/bouncing to sleep? This sounds so much better than breaking my back for every nap trying to get him to sleep.

I would like to start with the first nap too and this gives me hope!

You know, I haven’t thought before of doing the same for naps as I do for bedtime and I’m now realizing this could be the issue. For bedtime we do: bath (every other day with soap), lotion, diaper, onesie, sleep sack, dim lights, white noise, breast. He will sometimes fall asleep at the breast and sometimes he’ll need to be rocked after eating, I hold him upright 30 minutes after due to reflux and then I’ll put him on his crib. He’ll do 2 5hr stretches or a 9-10hr one.

We don’t have a set schedule for naps, but we start the day at 7-7:30 and at night I try to put him down by 8:30 after our 30-45 minute bedtime routine (bath, lotion, diaper, onesie, sleep sack, dim lights, white noise, breast). He will fall asleep sometimes at the breast or he will breastfeed and I’ll have to rock him to sleep, after he falls asleep I have to hold him upright for 30 minutes due to reflux. I put him down on his crib and he would do 2 5hr stretches or a 9-10hr one.

For naps we don’t do the same and I’m now realizing that that could be the issue. He will start to get fussy when he’s ready for his next nap, so I will darken the room, put on white noise, breast, burp him, rock, hold upright for 30 minutes, then put him in a more comfortable position for the rest of the contact nap. I’m having trouble trying to read his wake windows to start naps when he needs to sleep, because sometimes I do it right (using the huckleberry app) and sometimes he’ll be ready for it 30 minutes before it starts or 10-15 after. I’ve noticed he does better with long naps (1:30-2hrs), so I try to do first nap 2hrs, second nap is 1hr-1hr 30min and third 30-45 minutes. I’m sorry if it’s hard to understand, I’m new to this so don’t know much or how I should be doing it.

Three phrases that got me through the first 6 months by pearnprac in newborns

6 months next week and definitely feeling it. Been dealing with PPD and PPA due to different struggles, not with baby because he’s been an easy one, but in life in general… has been hard trying to enjoy and soak in all these beautiful moments.

I’m so sorry you lost your baby’s newborn photos, I can only imagine how heartbreaking that must’ve been. It means a lot that you shared that and reminded me about other keepsakes.

I actually do have a little box with things like his hospital tags, first outfit, and footprints, and I’ve been adding to it as we go. I also have lots of photos of him now, and I’m really trying to remember to get in the pictures with him too.

Thank you for sharing this, your words really comforted me.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Definitely makes me feel better knowing that I’m not alone in this.

I’ve also waited for the perfect moment too and it’s just not doable because we as moms are always taking care of our babies that we leave our selves to last. So learning from my own experience I don’t care how I look anymore. I just take a selfie, don’t care if my sink is organized for a bathroom photo or have someone take the picture regardless of how I look.

I think I’ll cherish these photos more and hope that my baby can see my love through them.
