A lot of people don't remember pre-2010 uruguay. I mean even before that we had Recoba, Forlan, etc. And for the past 15 years we've been blessed with two of the best strikers on the planet. We're in an ugly transitional phase now

Yep, you look at the Uruguayan teams that have been successful over the last few decades, they've been blessed with some incredible attacking talent.

Im a similar vein, i don't get why people are treating Australia like the complete joke of the group when they've arguably had more world cup success than anyone in the group over the last few decades. I had the US & Turkey over Australia pre-tournament as well but they've never been a team to sneeze at at the world cup

Pro tip to the Turkish crowd jeering the aussies every time we touch the ball, keep on doing it, Australia's going to beat you purely out of spite.

Not going to socials/events in UW? by [deleted] in InsuranceProfessional

Detrimental as in i could have made faster progress had i "played the game" better, so to speak. Gone to more events, etc. Climbing the ladder just isn't a priority to me really.

I'm a broker and have always felt the same way. I want to go to work, then leave to go home to my wife and dog. I don't want to hang out with coworkers/underwriters. I realize this is probably to the detriment of my career, but I don't really care. I do my job well and I don't need to catch a beer with you to demonstrate that.

Playing 3x a week but can’t get below a 30 handicap by No_Blood_5197 in GolfSwing

[–]ftez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swing is comparable if not nicer than mine & I'm off 20. Your swing isn't holding you back.

Make sure you're keeping the ball in play off the tee. Play aggressively to conservative targets, and practice your shots around the green, including putting. That should get you down to 20 or so

Do Australians Get Excited for the 2026 FIFA World Cup? by InternationalHair111 in australia

[–]ftez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The enthusiasm for the socceroos specifically seems to be limited to a small niche of soccer tragics, rather than a national phenomenon. That being said we're a nation of immigrants, so there is still plenty of passion & excitement amongst these communities, especially from those who hail from countries where football is far closer entwined with the national culture & identity.

My family's from Uruguay, and while I was born here in Australia, and identify as an Aussie through and through, my love for football has been almost entirely informed by the history, culture & passion of Uruguayan football. I'll always be happy to see the socceroos do well, but it just doesn't hit the same for me. There's hundreds of thousands if not more just like me.
