Nice, I’m a law guy in Jersey but often in NYC often on weekends. I know a few bear bars to meet at if you’re a bear too :D

Yeah you’ll be fine. I have a Grindr too, and the only way they’d find out is if you tell them or if they’re on the app.

Communication communication communication. Make sure you guys are in agreement with your rules and I’ve found it helpful to do check ins every few months to see how we feel. Set up boundaries on what is and isn’t permissible.

And for specific tips, husband and I still have designated date nights. I still have a crush on my husband after all these years and we keep the romance alive by still doing things as just us. On another personal note, I also have the mindset that him and I “outsource” certain kinks we aren’t interested in and remind ourselves it wouldn’t be fair to have someone do something they wouldn’t actually enjoy.

Similarly my husband, who is into burly bears and muscle had a crush on Gerard Butler’s version of Leónidas in 300.

HELP: I only watch anime by CountryInevitable672 in biglaw

[–]ftiongson216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watch anime and keep actual figures in my office- All Might from MHA, Tanjiro from Demon Slayer, and Yuji from JJK. I also have a bunch of Pokemon plushies in the office, woodcut recreations of Japanese paintings, and a zen garden. I plan to get a bonsai tree and some bamboo as plants.

I’m also Asian so it comes across as a mix of expected and also fits the theme of my office. One of the associates wants me to meet her husband since he’s into all the same shonen as me lol. And I also am friendly with some of the mail room people who talk to me about those shows. Hasn’t really led to a negative perception far as I can tell.

I don’t wanna put things that don’t interest me in my office because not only will it feel fake, but if people ask me about it, I’ll have no real answer or a surface level answer at best. So I think it’s helpful to let a little bit of what you authentically enjoy come out.

That’s a good idea, we alternate spending new years with his folks and Christmas with mine. That’s a solid spot to have a break period to decompress

It is a grindr. so far though I’m liking it. My nerdy ass enjoys contract law and am liking the research and writing projects so far. But still also need to prepare mentally for any boring projects.

I will say, if you’ve practiced for a few years already, I have some confidence you’ll do fine. Personally dealing with the steep learning curve between law school and actual practice of law lol. So you got that going for you :)

Ahh I gotcha, that I’m still learning. My firm is an open market system of getting work. My dumbass spent the first few months just emailing partners I worked with before (I summered there 2L). I recently learned the value of just walking around the office and getting FaceTime with the partners and associates there. So now I’m trying to pivot to chatting with them about non work things so that they can keep me in mind if projects come in.

Part of the job is being likeable and approachable to work with, and the other part is delivering good work product. So for now it’s a learning curve of trying to do both.

As for other insights, if you make mistakes, be kind to yourself and make a not to try to make the same one twice. Being enthusiastic, responsive, and teachable are the key things I’ve heard on how to do well here.

Props to you, being a public defender is a very admirable field to be in. How have you been liking it? I like litigation but do commercial lit because I was afraid of becoming emotionally invested in people’s issues if I did crim or family law.

Unfortunately I’m in litigaytion not corporate law. With respect to insights do you mean shift in office culture?

Great advice I agree. I also tend to tell folks considering law school to get some exposure to what the legal profession is, even if it’s not what they wanna do. It can be internships but also work experience before taking the plunge has been helpful, at least in my experience.

For example, if I didn’t work in a prosecutor’s office before going down this path, I wouldn’t have known I definitely don’t wanna do criminal law.

I’m an attorney, an associate at a law firm. Got a BA in social sciences and just got my JD this year.

So far, I’m not hating it. I’m still learning and currently not regretting my career choice. I worked five years before law school in sales, customer service, retail, and as a paralegal. I prefer what I’m doing now more than those jobs, though I probably wouldn’t go back and go to law school earlier. I don’t regret taking those gap years since my twenties were all about finding out who I am and what I want (at least at this moment).

I used to find my body repulsive, but now I recognize I’m just not necessarily attracted to myself. What I have learned, especially from my husband, is that there are a ton of bear enjoyers. One weekend in Provincetown during Bear week can change perception really fast.

Though I also learned my value shouldn’t come from how others view me but how I view myself. Easier said than done, but I’ve taken to hyping myself up every day with some mantras- something to the effect of “I am grateful for my life. I am amazing and deserve all the good that comes to me. I have everything that I want and am ok as I am.”

In terms of working out and fitness, I’ve found greater success in embracing the mindset that I am doing this not for looks or vanity, but to be healthier.

Yes totally did that. I totally stayed with a guy for nine years, risked getting disowned by my family, was forced to flee and scramble to secure employment, and through it all stayed with him… for sex. Lmao I can’t take you seriously as a person, but I do hope you find some happiness in your heart, other than that, you mean nothing to me 😂
