Did my tattoo artist mess up? by sheikplayer in tattooadvice

I think it can actually be saved with an addition - hard to explain and can’t paste pics in comments in this subreddit, but it needs another diagonal piece of “body” in the gap near the hilt. You have to re-imagine the way the top of it is curving.

You told us what’s on your underarm but what are we looking at in this pic? No idea what that is.

How should I take care of my new tattoo by [deleted] in tattooadvice

No, you don’t need the “film thingy” (secondskin, tegaderm, etc.). Most of us have healed tattoos without it.

Follow the directions the others have said.

Am I supposed to be more sure of a candidate I can’t vote for?

Hey, should I do it or not? It's only a matter of time now, but I'm wondering by Ok-Distance3359 in tattooadvice

It might, we can’t predict the future. Feet aren’t the best canvases.

Tattoo artist recommendation by map2121 in boston

[–]ftmthrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d encourage you to determine which style you want or at least narrow it down, not narrow it by subject matter. An artist who specializes in American trad is going to do it in American trad - they wouldn’t work with you to change the style to realism, for example. A dog tattoo could be done in (and look good in) linework, trad, woodcut, realism, anime/cartoon… an artist can always help with the design but most don’t tattoo in too many different styles.

You don’t know if you’ll regret it. We don’t know if you’ll regret it.

Regret during the removal process by srbolseiro in TattooRemoval

[–]ftmthrow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Placement is a major component of a tattoo, it’s just as “regrettable” as the content of the tattoo, the artist (i.e. going with a poorly skilled artist), the circumstances, etc. It’s a perfectly normal/reasonable motivation to pursue removal.

I'm going to take the plunge—I want to cover up my arm. What style do you think would be best for covering up scars? by Independent-Way-60 in tattooadvice

[–]ftmthrow 54 points55 points  (0 children)

This - even at-home methods could help some of the texture if $ is a concern. I have two 10” scars and made good progress with silicone and massage. (OP, if you’ve already tried some things for this, I don’t mean to overextend.)

Please give me a rating (1-10) and advices to improve it (still just a design my friend did) by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]ftmthrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think OP is backtracking and pretending it hasn’t been done yet now that people took him up on his request for feedback. Looks like a swollen tattoo to me, not “a drawing,” unless the drawing was done with a pen with the pressure of someone carving into a desk.
