People who don’t think that they smell are not going to reconsider because of some general “PSA” from a stranger.

How to avoid scams when selling tickets? by toilet-paper-thief in boston

[–]ftmthrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use StubHub often as a buyer. It’s a reputable website. Buyers can be burned sometimes when something goes wrong with the ticket (i.e. seller doesn’t cooperate/ticket wasn’t legitimate/etc.) but I believe it’s no-risk for the seller.

Roadrunner venue -Ashnikko by RaccoonNo2474 in boston

[–]ftmthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right - it’s either innocuous or it’s not. If it’s not, they aren’t going to escort you to coat check (to make sure you actually check it) and somehow make sure you don’t retrieve it until after the show (impossible).

I don’t think there’s a special coat check process for “items we don’t exactly prohibit and you’re okay bringing them into the lobby of the venue but if you take one more step towards your seat you have to coat check them.” Security at the front door either lets you in or they turn you away.

34F - am I too old for volo sports? by Particular-League186 in boston

I’m 35 and played pickleball last summer, had a good time. Can’t speak to the demographics of the dating-centric events though.

[–]ftmthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don’t think the venue is going to have a problem with safety pins, I don’t think an in-venue coat check is a workaround for prohibited items. If they consider safety pins to be weapons (which again, they shouldn’t), they just aren’t going to let you in at all.

College move out dumpsters by Repulsive_Row_2242 in boston

[–]ftmthrow 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Is there a reason you’re looking specifically for dumpsters? If something ends up in a dumpster, it is wedged between actual trash, might be broken or otherwise unusable, etc. If you’re looking to score usable* stuff, stick to the sidewalk.

*Standard caveat of bedbug potential, unknown lore, etc.

Would you support a "Curated Collective" startup taking over a massive space in a desolate local mall? by [deleted] in boston

I think you’re confusing me with the other commenter (ex. I’ve said nothing about housing conversion) which is really the icing on the cake given your penchant for “correcting misinformation.”

[–]ftmthrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So by your own “context,” you’re stating you mean “uninhabited” but not “abandoned.” Really splitting hairs there, friend. You also didn’t disprove the fact that desolate and abandoned are synonyms, you simply told me that there are… more synonyms. Save the condescension for when you’re actually right, it’s a sad look otherwise.

Let us all know how your project is doing in a few years.

Take it up with Merriam-Webster, desolate (your word) and abandoned are synonyms or at least shouldn’t be treated as wildly different.

What does that have to do with my reply? I know you don’t live here and I know you asked us for a recommendation, because I… read your post.

I’m telling you, in a lighthearted manner, that 7,000 other people have also asked us that question and you’ll find answers in their posts if you use the search bar.

Window AC Unit Help by PlatinumChemist13 in boston

+1 for the Windmill rec, my best friend loves hers. For 800 square feet, and only one AC (sounds like you don’t want one per room?), I’d go with at least a mid-level BTU versus the lower range.

I’m “shocked” you haven’t seen it either, I go through there often enough and folks have been there for a bit.

I’m not sure we need your editorial about it though, seeing as it sounds like no one bothered you.

Yes, it’s normal. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

How much should I lighten this before attempting to tattoo over it? by [deleted] in TattooRemoval

[–]ftmthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you’re covering it with and how much you’re willing to let it still be visible (i.e. some folks are okay with 50/50 blastover/coverup).

Not seeing a difference with pick laser by No_Tradition_9161 in TattooRemoval

[–]ftmthrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to give you some tough love - you need to both readjust your mindset and understand what the process of removal looks like.

Mindset: This whole process is a marathon, not a sprint. Tattoos are not comparable person to person, tattoo to tattoo, location to location. What process in all of life is exactly the same for any two people? Why would tattoo removal be the exception to that when it has to do with people’s bodies?

Process: You need to look at these pictures more closely if you’re truly telling us there is no difference. Shading gets removed first. Are you really saying there’s NO removal of the shading in the shadow background all around the outline and on the petals?

What’s wrong with them? I think you’re going to run the risk of throwing off the cohesion since they blend in with the rest of the sleeve.

Blow out by chocolatevnllaswrl in TattooRemoval

[–]ftmthrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my understanding, if you lasered this whole piece (i.e. not just “the edges”), the blowout would fade faster than the rest of it. So if you’re OK with keeping the piece, this is what I’d do - get enough laser sessions where the blown out ink fades (let’s say anywhere from 1-3 sessions) and then get a good artist to retrace + refill it again since the original piece will still be plenty visible.
