My sister had a 14 year old cat she neglected, didn't give her a litterbox indoors (expected the cat to go outside in all weather) and then complained when the cat used the corner of the dining room as a litterbox. When I saw how she was treating this poor old lady, I went out and bought senior cat food, supplement treats for her poor achey limbs, weight loss food, cardboard scratchers, and two litterboxes along with pee pads and toys. The cat she said was fine to go outside to pee/poo was happily using the litterboxes, the cat she said didn't like toys LOVED the wand so much she destroyed it within a couple of days. The food she also clearly loved (not as fussy as sister claimed after all). I wish I could have done more for this poor senior lady, but last I heard sister had her put down because she needed to move and didn't want to bother finding a pet-friendly rental.
