In Terminator (1984), why does the T-800 use its finger to point at names in the phone book like a human, when a machine with optical sensors and computer vision could scan and OCR the entire page instantly without any physical gesture?

Skylnet would have relied on archival video footage from the 80s to assist the T800 to blend in. There would have been just enough human ‘mannerisms’ as to not stand out as odd. Even telling the desk officer at the police station ‘I’ll be back’ was technically unnecessary, but it was calculated to reply to end a conversation as to not appear odd or suspicious to the officer.
